Attack on Titan Season 2 |OT| NO MANGA TALK

I just want to say that even if it's hard to guess everything just from watching, all the clues are in the anime. Maybe you can't get the full picture, but they drop hints all over the place. Every word they say has some meaning to it, since S1. If you want to analyse it, you will be busy for a long time theorising :) That's part of the fun!

Ahh, I'll bear that in mind. Perhaps I've missed some underlying stuff here and there. Either way the announcement of S3 next year has really solved my main concern anyway. I wasn't expecting it until 2019 given the gap between S1 and S2.

Gotzon thanks. I won't quote because If I remember correctly, spoiler tags don't endure through the message posting screen. I'll revisit some of the conversations and the Ymir stuff. I already did want to get the new perspective of things from way back then.

Seems like it might be time to abandon thread until after I watch 37 which will be tonight.

The spoiler tag was just "SEASON 3 2018 CONFIRMED!" hehe

Finally watched it.

New End Boss (Blonde guy) who is Ape Titan. Something up with Erwin (him smiling). Almost kiss between Mikasa and Eren. (RIP Hannes, but your death did help awaken Eren.) Eren's command powers (similar to Blondie Ape Titan) are... interesting. Most importantly, why did Reiner say "Eren has fell into the hands of the worst possible side?"

>>Edit: I was thinking about Eren's command powers. DIdn't he ask Mikasa to "fight back" younger when they fought the bandit (ep 6), and Mikasa woke and gain "total control" over her own body? That "lightning" awakening thing is similar to what we see in this episode. Since titans are humans, commanding titans ≒ commanding humans, and thus Mikasa gain powers from Eren's commandment?

Season 3 teaser
showed all of the remaining manga covers up until vol 22 (which is the most recent issue), so I guess season 3 will cover all of that? That'll be 10 volumes, two cours... Seems like it'll be great. :D

Next week is a special where Connie + Sasha's VAs talk about the "future" of Survey corps. Probably nothing much.

This season was good. I'll miss this show, its good to see that S3 wont take years to come out.

Good season, great to see some of my favourite moments animated. Also happy season 3 will be next year.

Reiner said "Why did the coordinate fall into the hands of the worst person imaginable"

Regarding the Mikasa lightning thing, it's unrelated.

Why didn't you kiss?

Most importantly, why did Reiner say "Eren has fell into the hands of the worst possible side?"

Eren wants to completely eliminate Reiner and the titans, with all passion in his heart. And this is then the guy that has seemingly control over all normal titans.

I love how Historia was dancing through the air in her offensive, as the music kicked in. That and Eren's "coordinate" power awakening were great moments.

I also like how even Mikasa flinched when Eren tore off some of his flesh when desperately trying to transform. Even she was like, "Man, that's fucked up."

I thought that was a nice episode to end the season. It answered more questions than I expected (what is the Coordinate? why do Reiner and Bertholdt want want Eren? etc.), and there were some nice moments.

I do think it's important to have a balance between cryptic foreshadowing of far-off reveals and actual movement forward of the plot. I'm less concerned now given the news that Season 3 is coming next year and may cover a lot of material, but I did get frustrated at times during this season. All of the subtle hints will certainly be fun to appreciate if I ever do a rewatch of the whole series after it's done, but life is short, and I could get hit by a car before then, so I'd like to get some immediate enjoyment out of the series without depending on earth-shattering revelations packed into the finale. This season ended up with some nice reveals and plot arcs, but I wouldn't mind a slightly faster pace going forwards.

WAIT WAS THAT HIS DAD

I thought he could be, but his dad wasn't blonde so we don't relly know who the guys is. Maybe Hohenheim of Light from FMA? Lol.

It should've been Mikasa instead of Hannes, my eyes were about to rip their way out of my skull from all the eye rolling during that stupid scene. "Mikasa and her power of love save the day". Get the fuck out of here! That moment ruined what was, otherwise, a very interesting Season Finale that answered what the hell a Coordinate was.
I'm not keeping my hopes up for Mikasa dying next season, she was a fucking sitting duck here, yet she managed to survive with minor injuries. The plot armor is strong with her so I guess I'll just have to put up with one of the worst characters from this show.

Edit: And why are some people assuming the blonde dude is the Beast titan? It seemed to me like he was simply standing on him, similar to Bertholdt and Reiner.

Not too bad of a season - it dragged quite it a bit, but the high moments were really well done. Knowing that there's only a year gap makes me feel much better about the season overall.

Eren's coordinate ability ended up paying off as well and is so potentially OP that it makes sense how determined they were to get him and shows that Erwin wasn't a fool.

Smoke is erupting from the inanimate Beast Titan's back, with that person resting on its nape. It evokes someone emerging from the titan as we have seen several times in previous episodes.

Such a good ending, so hyped for season 3.

Damn it Eren you useless piece of shit,
poor Hannes.

Awesome ending with Eren's new power awakening though - I guess it happening right now is a bit of a deus ex machina, but it was damn fun to watch. Seriously cool seeing all the titans go nuts. And the scene of absolute desperation right before that was really well done.

And that last scene... so good.

EDIT: The narrator is Historia...?! Awesome.

"We've taken one more step towards the truth."
"Just one step, huh?"

that's what this season feels like. the first episode started with the revelation that there are fucking titans in the walls, and then there was 10 other things brought up that were never explained throughout the next 11 episodes.
in the title credits scene that we've been shown every episode, you know how it shows the ape titan running along side like a dinosaur, wolf, and all those other animals that seemingly have titan souls or whatever? wtf is that?

also, once it was revealed "the Coordinate" had the power to control titans, I immediately started thinking there was only one other thing that seemingly was able to control the titans: the giant ape titan. immediately thought that was Erin's dad, even before that final shot. if people can transform into monsters, they can change their hair color.

Steam is coming out of the back of the Beast Titan. Blondie is the Beast Titan.

Great episode. It's great season these moments from the manga finally animated.

Oh ok, gotcha. He was just getting off his flesh mecha suit.

No need to spoiler tag stuff from the latest episode :p Or at least make it known that you're talking about this episode so people don't freak out thinking it's about the manga.

But from the 2nd episode, the ape titan is shown to be completely unfamiliar with society in the walls. So it's probably not the dad

hm. gotta re-watch that.

Yeah, it can't be the dad since he wasn't blonde and he lived there, so he had to know about the 3D gear and stuff.
It was Eren's dad who injected Eren, right? I don't remember the details clearly but didn't his dad go away or something? What if the Beast Titan is someone who knows Eren's dad because his dad told him about Eren? I should rewatch all of Season 1 because I don't remember many details.

those round glasses were so overstated in that final shot, and the only other character we've seen with those round glasses is Eren's dad :\

His dad wasn't blonde.

I thought the same thing, but then I remembered that Eren's dad wasn't blonde.

But it's the same damn glasses. Well maybe even that's not true. I just really want that to be the case.

Edit: And why are some people assuming the blonde dude is the Beast titan? It seemed to me like he was simply standing on him, similar to Bertholdt and Reiner.
I think because of the steam/smoke and because he happens to be standing near where the pilot would come out. If the titan didn't look conscious, I would've assumed the same thing.

Yesss I was hoping they'd end the season by showing the Beast Titan again. In the manga he didn't appear again until much later than this point, so showing him again now was a good way to bookend the season and tease at the future.

Nice to know they're going to continue next year, and glad to see next season will probably be a full 25/26 episodes based on the preview.

Not a fan of this episode honestly. It was well-animated and I love the highlights with Erwin, Reiner, Bertholdt and Ymir and I felt like they are left in a good place by the end of the episode. The whole thing with Eren though and that titan appearing again was way off. I was never really a fan of Eren or Mikasa and this episode just reinforces that for me. They seem so basic and uninspired compared to the rest of the cast, and I can't pinpoint one reason for that except that they're maybe the most shounen characters in this series.

I did enjoy pretty much everything else about the season though. Reiner and Bertholdt are good antagonists and a I love the different atmospheres this season had over the first. I hope the next one is just as good.

Action!
Drama, tragedy! Hopelessness, then a sliver of hope!
A new reveal! more mysteries!
A cliffhanger to end the season!

Yep, that's Attack on Titan in a nutshell guys. It's why we like it. Good episode to end the season.

A final note, this episode looked even better than usual in lightning, sky, detail of vegetation, etc. I imagine they reserved a bit more of budget for it.

Wow.... that was it? What a shitty season.

You've got it right Levi. After all that I can't believe the show has only brought us "just one step."

/rolleyes. It was several steps:

Titans were humans all along.
Monkey Titan seems to the be leader/final boss.
Historia's origin of birth.
Ymir's a Titan, and her mysterious origins.
Reiner and Bert reveals, that include the original attackers: the armored Titans and the Colossal Titan.
Injection to transform humans into Titans, used as punishment.
Eren has a 'coordinate' power, to control titans, that's why they wanted to kidnap him.

Literally a reveal every 2 episodes, on average.

Your the type that wants every mystery and twist laid out in one episode and the next 3 seasons to be titan battles 24/7.

That confession felt kind of out of place lol, guess she really thought that was the end.
But damn that was a good ep, and I had no idea this was the season finale lol.
Those new dragon shout powers for Eren were awesome, it all makes sense now why they were chasing him. I wonder if if that was his dad at the end there?

Overall Season 2>>>>Season 1

Naaaah, nothing was shown /s

Anyway, it ended at the expected place, nice way to end a season. They revealed Beast Titan's human form much earlier than in the manga, but it doesn't mean anything for now and, like with Ymir's backstory, they had to throw you a bone.
And great music, as always.

But the best news is that all your answers will be answered in a year's time :D
