Obamacare repeal officially dead , Trump rage on twitter [POLITICO]

I wish they'd stop jerking people's chains and admit the obvious. Obamacare is as good as it gets without being single payer. It's either go back to what it was before, which would be political suicide, keep it and make it better, or go single payer. GOP's real mistake was 5 years ago when they decided it was a good idea for them to lie to their base about the bill being evil and will ruin their lives. They should've touted all the GOP amendments to it and let it be a bipartisan health care bill. Instead they branded it as big bad disaster, called it Obamacare and convinced their base it was the worst thing ever. Now they're stuck in a corner because even their base realizes there are good parts of Obamacare they don't want to lose.

Mitch the "master strategist" McConnell didn't strategize for the long game. Too focused on the short term gains.

Gotta make sure Obama is a one term president. That's almost all they did, break shit where they could and point fingers at the other guys while holding the wrench behind their backs.

Go fuck yourself Trump. Obama will live forever as a legendary president and there is nothing you can do to change that. Meanwhile, you will live forever as one of the most incompetent president's ever and there is nothing you can do to change that

Sure looks like the repeal is dead.
I wonder if they'll try to sabotage the ACA, we shall see.

Yeah, it's definitely the Democrats' fault. Yup. Totally. I can't believe them not giving a single vote to this thing sunk it completely.

Oh wait, that's not right. It's the GOP's incompetence and your stupidity that sank it! Almost forgot.

LOL, OK this took effort. Bravo!

Remember when we thought the house bill was dead? Don't underestimate the fuckery

People made these exact posts last week before the senate bill died (for a second time). The house and senate are completely different bodies with completely different people in them. Because one thing happened doesn't mean all the things in the future will happen the same way.

Hahaha, the end of that fucking tweet: "We will return!" I almost picture him saying that before twirling a black cape around himself and escaping out of a window.

The flight plan I just filed with the agency list me, my men, Dr. Pavel here. But only one of you!
Nuking the filibuster to enact unpopular legislation, and thus causing a dem majority in 2018 that has free reign due to no filibuster would be very fitting for this republican government.

It aint happening tho

Yikes. They want to just repeal now with no replacement. Are they serious thinking about that? That would be even worse then getting that shit replacement. Even more would lose coverage and markets will fail.

Nothing but a disaster.

The new plan to repeal now and replace later is like the worst and stupidest idea since the GOP's last stupid idea. Thankfully it will be even more unpopular than this bill was and hopefully DOA.

All of their ideas are shit, they only win elections through propaganda. Maybe Trump could try privatizing Social Security next.

The Senate must go to a 51 vote majority instead of current 60 votes. Even parts of full Repeal need 60. 8 Dems control Senate. Crazy!
Says the man who won the presidency without the popular vote.

There's not a chance the Senate will kill the legislative filibuster - they see Trump's ratings and know that the Senate won't be theirs for very long and killing the legislative filibuster would backfire far worse than the removal of the filibuster for judicial candidates.

Obamacare repeal failed for 1 simple reason. Obamacare worked for the people using it for the most part.

There were No Death Panels, rationing of care etc. Republican Sabotage ensured it would fall apart as time passed but if Republicans wanted to repeal it they needed to do it within a year or two of it being introduced so people would not have the time to realize its benefit.

Of course a simpler idea is they never wanted to repeal it anyways. Back to the Two Santa Theory. Put the time bomb into the bill and let it tick away until Democrats are forced to "correct" and are the Grinch taking away. I mean even now the idea behind the direct repeal and fix later is put it off to like 2020.

I think they do want to repeal it. But the reason they want to repeal it is they spent the last 8 years poisoning the well against Obama and Obamacare. If they try to fix it rather than go forward with repealing it (they voted like 60 times to repeal it) then their rabid, knuckle dragging base is going to revolt. I'd also add that it's likely some of the republican representatives in congress probably believe some of the shit their constituents do, that Obama is a Muslim, shit about class warfare, Obama embarrassing us in the eyes of the world etc. and that's why they want to repeal it as well. They want to strip away any legacy that Obama has as a good president who tried to help people because they spent 8 years saying he hated America. Yet Obama's signature legislation, while it needs some fixing, has helped more people than it has hurt. And they can't stand it. How could a Muslim communist socialist sharia law loving terrorist do something that helped Americans? That's how they look at this. Hell, Trump is hellbent on doing everything Obama wouldn't do just to spite the idea of the man.

I still believe that the republicans didn't think they would be in this position. I don't think they believed trump would win, I don't believe they knew they'd get the house, the senate and the presidency. Their entire position has been that of opposition and now they don't have anyone to blame because they have to do more than just say "no" to everything. They actually have to legislate. And they're scared to death of it. These guys won't even do town halls with their constituents.

Yup, it made sense to go against it in the ACA's struggling first few years, but once Obama was re-elected, the GOP should've stopped trying to repeal it. They should've realized that the law had 4 more years to find its footing, and that it's benefits would be felt.

But we aren't dealing with smart people. Hell, this "Democrats are obstructing us (even though they don't power in any level of government)" is probably believed by millions of Americans. Somehow.

There's no point pretending that the GOP will pass major legislation on its own. Must either work w/ Dems or do nothing.

Repubs aren't that stupid with 2018 elections coming up. They more likely wait until after the 2018 elections to do something. I just hope enough democrats get elected to derail this agenda next year.

Why should they push the threshold down to 51 votes? The republicans are in control of both house and senate but can't get a single piece of legislation passed. This is strange coming from the party of obstruction.

They're the only team on the field, and they're still losing.
