Powerball jackpot climbs to $700,000,000 for Wednesday’s drawing

Got two tickets. No idea if I won any money (I'm at work and my tickets are in the car).

I'm surprised that just one person won. With low numbers like that, there are usually several winners.

You guys can't buy lottery tickets online/via an app and can't remain anonymous when you win a big jackpot?!

What kind of backwards country is this?!? :/

Serious question: has anyone ever heard of any of the towns where the winning tickets to the biggest lotteries are drawn?

Like, Jesus Christ, what is it with that shit?

Yes, I went to college for a year in Chicopee, and my sister got her Master's in Chicopee.
Just because you don't know places doesn't make them unimportant.

I can't even imagine the emotions. I think I'd be more afraid than excited for the first few weeks.

I never understand why people come forward immediately. Get your shit together first..I bet they didn't even deactivate their Facebook.

I'd be so fucking paranoid holding a little piece of paper worth 750 million dollars. Would want to cash that thing in first.

I share this sentiment. I'd find a way to fuck up by losing it in a burglary, house fire, car explosion, laundry cycle... Something would be my undoing if I waited long.

I get that but that's honestly the first mistake a lot of people make. Your life changes the second you come forward and there's a lot you should get in order before doing so. At the least I'd hire a lawyer..but to each their own.

Well unless a state allows you to be anonymous. Some do or at least allow you to setup a trust who claims it for you.

Not sure if MA allows either.

Damn! Can't even imagine what he/she is feeling like right now.

Shitty thing is, even if he does everything correctly, his close family members are still going to be harassed on a daily basis. And if he doesn't hide his tracks perfectly at each turn or have a team of lawyers managing his funds, people will NEVER STOP asking for money.

There was this story of an already successful business man who won a $20 million lottery. People camped out in front of his house to ask for money. He changed his phone number several times and would still get daily calls with sob stories or outright demands. His grand daughter ended up being kidnapped and murdered. Can't imagine what will happen to an average dude with half a billion dollars.

What an absolute fucking idiot

Probably has no lawyer, no trust, nothing set up if he's already coming forward to claim it

I'm still confused why it's mandatory to release the names of people that won, AFAIK it's not in Canada.

Let the people live in peace.

States really do need to universally adopt the ability to claim lottery winnings over a certain amount anonymously.

I would have put the ticket in a safe and tried to find ways around it if I had won.

I think the reason is that they want people to know it's not a scam and people are actually receiving the money.

But yeah, I think people should be able to accept anonymously.

I was still living with my Mom and Sister in Chino Hills down the street from the 7-11 that claimed the $1.6 Billion...that place was insanity for a while and had people camping there all day.

The phone calls and texts we got asking us if we won were also insane, like holy shit we can't imagine how it would have been if we won. I stopped buying lotto tickets since that time.

I forget, did anyone ever actually claim the $1.6 billion prize?

It hurts way more when the winner is close by. There is a possibility I know said person, or at least know someone who knows her. :'(
Hell I know someone who bought a ticket at that Pride around that time! That must sting even worse!

I'd have the paperwork drawn up to immediately change my name after I was announced the winner. Then I'd sell my house, get on a plane and live in Europe for awhile.

I think I'd be less hurt if I knew they chose every number without quick pick.
