Yakuza developers announce "Fist of the North Star" game (PS4, 2018, more at TGS)

That's completely ignoring part 2...

Dont listen to these negative nancies, watch it as a campy action show, a d understand the time period it was in. It's a lot of fun.

manga is also great, every frame is a fucking metal album cover
Yeah that's why I enjoy it, I like Berserk and it's the same sort of thing..... just fun instead of depressing

For the most part I don't really care for anime. But I'll always love me some Hokuto No Ken. This is awesome! Not to mention I wasn't expecting this at all. It makes me happy to see it getting more love as all there has been lately were those Dynasty Warrior games.

The worst part of Yakuza is its combat, so I'm kind of hesitant to get hyped up about this. Mash your way to victory with dozens of hours of mindless AI.

So is this Fist of the North Star in the Yakuza engine? Will there be open world elements like the Yakuza series, or is it mostly just a brawler?

Is this game called

Like a Dragon/ Fist of the North Star?
Yakuza/Fist of the North Star
Or just
Fist of The North Star?

Is this a yakuza game? With Fist of the North Star characters invading? That teaser trailer is too damn confusing.

In a more or less literal translation this game is called "Like a North Star" (Hokuto ga Gotoku).

And it looks like a Fist of the North Star game with Yakuza style gameplay.

It's 27 volumes or 15 deluxe sized ones.
It's big, but when I think of long manga, it doesn't seem that long.

Yep it's nothing compared to something like the length something like Naruto (72 volumes in total), One Piece (86 and is ongoing), or Dragon Ball / DBZ (42 volumes in total)

In the scope of things Fist of the North Star at 27 volumes, saying it is very long doesn't hold as a reasonable excuse for the sake of translation.

I don't think the age or length of the series had anything to with it's lack of popularity in the West. I think it's more so of a marketing thing. Dragon Ball came out at the same time as HnK being early 1980's. For western marketing Dragon Ball was just pushed much more. If HnK got the same push it's popularity could easily be on par.

You must be mistaking a Musou game for Yakuza here, because I'd hardly call Yakuza the sort of game in which you can mash to win.

Some of the worst art style I've seen in a long time, but the rest of the game looks bonkers in a good way

Hopefully the combat is less flashy than Yakuza and more involved

Dragon Ball FighterZ

Little Witch Academia

Seven Deadly Sins

and now Fist of the North Star

2018 is the year of (Good) Anime Games

Please someone get an awesome dev to make a Madoka Magica game next.

I'm surprised, yet it's not so much of a shock given some of Kiryu's later heat actions (ESPECIALLY one that is coming up in Kiwami). I'm excited by this and looking forward to seeing more.

I know it's obviously Takaya Kuroda (Kiryu) as Kenshiro but is Shin being played Nishiki's actor? That would sooo much sense lol.

The best bit is how fast forward his voice gets.

Man I cannot wait to see what the mini-games are from this.

Quite when SEGA said they wanted to handle other people's IPs I thought it meant just Halo Wars or Age of Empires but now Fist of the North Start, what next?!

People who know HnK are familiar with how stoic and unhumorous Kenshiro is (he makes Kiryu look like a bundle of joy) the thought of him doing Yakuza-style shenanigans already makes this game of the generation

We get him and Rei singing and dancing to karaoke mini-games, and it'll be one of the GOATs.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?

I was going to mention this element as one of the reasons I'm so excited for this game. Kenshiro is like a half step up from the Terminator in terms of personality or showing emotion do seeing him deal with hilarious side missions is going to be great.
