What are the chances of SCEE putting some Vita games up for download today? I'm itching to play WipEout and Everybody's Golf, but knowing SCEE they'll probably wait until the update on the 22nd.

I expect the US only put them up because of the FEB. It's one week before launch so it's actually a good idea so that people can pre load if they want. I'd guess that SCEE will do the same come the 15th as that'll be a week from launch here too.

You can addNintendo DS = no DD of retail games
Nintendo 3DS = No DD of retail games
Sony PSP = 0% discount on DD of retail games
Sony Vita = 10% discount on DD of retail games
Yet, somehow, we are mad at the vita right now. WHAT IN THE HECK, GAF!??!
I fully expect to not download anything from SCEE until after 3pm on the 22nd.
You can add
Steam = 0% discount on DD of retail games
For non-sale pricing this is actually a step forward from pretty much everything else. It needs to be complemented by good sales, but I see no need for outrage.
that is just the power adapter, still needs the $20 cable.
There will third party cables, cases etc though.
People just need to stop their whining.

Amazon: $29.99
PSN: $35.99
That's not how discounts work, Sony.
You're right for the most part.
I look at it this way.
Amazon: $29.99+tax= $33.50
PSN: $35.99. No tax= 35.99
I went with the PSN version. Very small price to pay for the convenience of having it on a memory card.. Granted not everyone pays tax.

I imagine they get a VERY nice profit margin off of those. Game consoles are generally razor thin profits, and given the Vita's specs I don't see it being any different there.
Are you guys getting charged tax?
It should be $10 off, not 10%. Clearly Sony does not understand or thinks we are all idiots. Time to write an article.

Can you download these to your PS3 now...and then transfer to the Vita next week?
10% is not enough.
Read the link I provided more carefully - it comes with the cable.
That being said, I understand your point that there will eventually be third party providers. However, as of right now your only choice is to buy Sony's hugely-marked-up memory cards.
There has never been, at any point in history, an official discount off MSRP for digital items across the board by a first party software/hardware manufacturer.
Would I like it if it were more? Hell yeah, who wouldn't. But some of you calling for a $10/30% etc. cut are really delusional.
It was not long ago that retailers got mad at Sony for simply carrying a first party game digitally day one. Now we have every single Vita title available digitally day one, with a price cut to boot.
Pretty damn remarkable if you ask me. Here's hoping the trend continues with the next wave of systems.
What do you think would happen to a platform holder who systematically undercuts all their retail partners?
Samus4145 said:The same thing that will happen if rumors are true about their next system killing used game market.
Ten percent off the MSRP is more than I have to pay at my local store so the pricing argument doesn't really work for me.
Then it's also not any more convenient than buying it somewhere. Sony doesn't let you download the software prior to release (activation on the day of release), they put the games up whenever they feel like it. When I order on Amazon, I have the game on the day of release, cheaper, early in the morning, in a nice case and my girlfriend can borrow my copy of the game.
I was about to go DD only (prior to knowing the 10% discount is all we get) but a 32GB card is just too expensive (another thing Sony could have done something about) so I'll just go with retail games and put them in a carrying bag or something.
I think I'd have gone digital only if:
* memory cards were priced like (micro) SD cards
* we'd be able to pre-order and download the games prior to release
* I could use more than one account on the system so I could import stuff
Another big difference to something like Steam is that there's absolutely no competition on the PSN and sales are just not as good as on the PC. Waiting doesn't pay off on the PSN, it does on the PC and it does when you buy at retail.
You're forgetting some big advantages too:
- having access to a launch game hour 1
- avoiding leaving home to buy something
1 - Eh. Nah. By the time vita memory card gets cheaper SD card will be even more cheaper.
2 - No way. not even steam is doing that.3- I wish that's the case but its no deal breaker.
Man, Sony is really afraid of Best Buy and the likes?
No tax makes the deal a lot better when we get charged 13% in Ontario. That's a 23% savings in total. If I was positive Sony wasn't going to flick the tax switch back to on I'd reconsider my stance on digital.
Buying at MSRP in store in Ontario means that HSG would come out to around $45. A $10 savings means I could also pay for Super Stardust for the same price.
That makes no sense. The used market requires a new game market for its supply.
