Yeah, as much as I would want something like that (ala Windows 8 side-by-side fullscreen features) I don't think it'll be happening any time soon.

Instead, they'll continue to improve on the multitasking and app switching abilities, like bringing mission control/espose to iOS in some form. That is a more likely prospect, imo.
I don't see them doing it on iOS, but I do wish someone would create a plugin or hack for OS X that would allow it on my MacBook where it's more technologically possible. OS X apps can be resized to any size without problems so a hack would simply need to tell the fullscreen app to resize to a smaller area and somehow allow a second app to also resize to the other smaller area. Though I'd still also like to have certain apps float above the screen on all spaces like a PIP but it hasn't happened yet either.

Either way, I'm interested in seeing what they do, especially as windows tablets will start to be announced around that time as well. There are a couple things I would like to see implemented, especially since both Apple and Microsoft are looking to combine their mobile and desktop OS's.

Apple combined their mobile and desktop OSes years ago. Over 90%* of the two have been identical below the user interface and the AppKit/UIKit divide.

*made up, but it's a lot whatever it is.

That chart is dead on, by the way. I just got out a tape measure and my normal viewing distance when reading on my iPad is roughly 16"-19".

Retina confirmed!

I just skooched my chair four inches further back from my 27” iMac.

RETINA IMAC, BITCHES! Instant Upgrade!

Back when the iPhone released in the Summer, yes. I think they're sticking to Fall from here on out, which would put the iOS 6 announcement around WWDC.
Unless they unpair iOS releases from hardware releases. As the small screen version gets more mature they may want to shift release importance to the iPad rather than being tied to the iPhone's release cycle. It also gives another "event" to spread out through the year and attract attention rather than the long lull there was last year.
Just an Apple logo.

Nothing creative. They've gone soft. Apple is doomed.

Paint splotches? Obviously pushing art apps, get ready for a stylus.

oh, I also expect a bunch of demos of apps that will play very, very poorly over text live blogs. the second half of this thing will be a snoozer - until they show off that revamped Apple TV 3.

Engadget usually does a live picture blog, although the text usually gets updated faster then the pictures it's still as good as you can get. without a live videostream.

They used the same paint theme for the original iPad reveal, so perhaps it's a nod to this being as significant a reveal as the original iPad.

Looks very similar to the original iPad launch event

2010 iPad launch event

So with a new retina screen on the iPad, are they finally going to allow the iPad to use the retina assests from iPhone applications? i.e. no doubling up anymore.

Or is there going to be a 4x button.

Let's face it, it is ****ing annoying and obvious.

Damn it, price structure stays the same. I really wanted to see some tears.

We’ve gotten word that iPad pricing is going to be the same across the board as the current iPad 2 models which should be no big surprise given Apple’s history – they rarely raise prices. Even better, some countries with currencies doing better than the US dollar should expect to see marginal drops in prices.

While we’re squashing, the configurations appear to be the same as current 16/32/64GB. One of the strange succession of posts from Digitimes this week said that Apple would move to 8GB/16GB/32GB. That appears even less likely than before, if that is possible.

If it were up to me, I'd turn off the ability to run iPhone apps at all. Force developers to do it right.

I hope not. There are still tons of games releases that aren't optimized for iPad. A lot of small time devs cant afford to make two versions.

So I've been an Apple fan for 20 years and this will be my first day 1 purchase.

Uh....what the hell do I do? Is it gonna be impossible to find on day 1 (whenever day 1 is), am I gonna have to be one of those crazy people who skip work to wait on line for one, or is there a way to pre-order it like us on the gaming side do with games?

They could atleast lower the prices, but that'd be too sensible and consumer friendly.

There will be shortages for sure, there always are. You don't lower the price of something when there are shortages. Shortages are a quick and dirty way of knowing Demand > Supply, which in capitalism is a primary method of determining what the price of something should be.

A 2048x1536 iPad sub $499? Damn, some of you are utterly unrealistic, irrational, and entitled. No other company will be able to match this pricepoint with this kind of display for a long time, mark my words. Also, this will probably be completely sold out for the 1st few weeks if not more.

The iPad is about to receive some very stiff competition between Windows 8 and low price Android tabs.

You know what'd be a good way to ensure continued dominance over your competitors? Lowering the price of your product to be more competitive.

I'm positive they'll still be making record-breaking profits all the whilst ensuring market dominance and improved customer satisfaction.

I swear some of you guys still behave like Apple is the underdog barely making enough to get by.

Lowering prices when demand out strips supply? Nope.gif

They don't need to lower the price to be competitive. Their competition does, and has failed to do so. That's the point.

Meanwhile, Asus sells a 32GB tablet for 499 with no contract.

Yep, and ASUS is about to release a $250 1280x800 Tegra 3 tab; I'm gonna feel sick when I hand over my cash to that Apple store employee knowing I could just wait a bit and get that beast.

I don't see why Apple would need to lower prices right now. The Kindle Fire hasn't done much to the iPads marketshare and I can't see other low price android tablets doing much better in the near future. On top of that, it would seem strange to lower prices before a single Windows 8 tablet has even been released.
