New PS3 Model (CECH-4000) Registered on FCC (Jeff_Rigby alert)

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Prices vary on a daily basis. At the moment, Amazon.de has it for 220€. Yesterday, another retailer still had it for 199.99€.
You are comparing Special Deals to regular prices - amazon is know to undercut the recommend selling price too.

They won't sell a PS3 Slim for less than 199€ - which means you could be able to get it for around 180€ on special occasions.

ugh I wish we could know more about this already. I need a new PS3 like yesterday but obviously it looks to be a bad idea to buy a new one right now.

Once again I'd say you could see its recommended price for 160-180. You simply don't introduce a new model to only cut 50 euro.

Also, at 200 the console is still too expensive for the market Sony wants to target from the autumn this year- the family friendly market. They have a number of initiatives already in place for from, ranging from games that will appeal to the families and kids all the way to new appealing hardware (Wonderbook) and even PSN just got a 'Disney' section. Sony's statements have been all about the family market this year too. To be honest the only flaw in their market approach is that there is no notable kiddies move game coming.

Add to that the fact that everytime you ask Sony exec on ps4 they immediately tell you that ps2 didn't take off until the Slim hit at 160 euro. In fact Jim Ryan mentioned the aggressive pricing that led to the appeal of ps2 in the same interview where he talked about Sony's family market focus.

Lastly, he also mentioned that Sony had big plans for the end of 2012 that would get plenty of coverage in the press. This probably relates to Wonderbook. Now Wonderbook is an accessory that is going to cost money. You'll probably be buying with move because JK Rowling says so and for many this purchase will have to be done with a new ps3. Now Move costs 60 euro, Wonderbook could cost around 40 and if you had ps3 for 200 that would put you at around 300 euro for the purchase. That is not family-friendly. I expect the regular ps3 price to be in the 160-180 range, bringing the above cost to 260-280, which is in line with Kinect which flies off the shelves at holidays so it can be deemed an acceptable price. Now if Sony does a bundle, offering it all from 230-250 they have a winner.

How is 200€ for the family market to much when the Wii sold millions at 250 ? I can't see them dropping the price that much, it's the best selling console in Europe and it would be weird for them to sell it for such a price already. If so great.... but it doesn't seem likely. Ps3 is the money maker right now and if they decide to drop Vitas Price too - they better keep the margins high on PS3 hardware.

150-160 price point wil be targeted next year, when PS4 is ready to launch.

Historically most new models have been introduced without a price drop and certainly the PS3 is the only one to have a large price drop.

Wii was selling for 250 much closer to the start of the generation. Honestly it's awful that 7 years into the generation we're still paying 250 for ps3 and full xbox360. As I've said a hardware reduction usually hints at a bigger price cut than your usual 50 euro. Sony are the best of the three at hardware revisions and cost-cutting. Also as I've said 200 is ok, but you have to add in Wonderbook which is going to be the big farmily-friendly hook that Sony is banking on.

Also re Vita, I'd expect a 50 euro price cut by October to be honest, without sacrificing profits thanks to the off-the-shelf mobile parts (Smartphones usually drop 50 euro every 3-4 months and they will be using the same components as Vita)

Pictures of the new model appear on the Anatel (Brazil FCC) site:

Files reffer to 16GB (maybe missing a 0?), 250GB and 500 GB models.

No I think the 16GB version is probably real and comes with an empty HDD slot, shit looks ugly as hell though in those pictures. I hope it is better looking IRL.

The recommended selling price has no meaning when it's available for less!? And Amazon was already selling it for 199.99€ in the past!? The RRP of the Galaxy S3 is 699.99€, but it's available for 500€.

no cd slot on the front? top loader confirmed?

Line in the middle seems to strongly suggest this.

I just hope this is not the final version. But maybe it will grow on me, it would probably look sexy in white.

Edit: above post on it sliding might be right.

Does anyone here have any idea about the production price difference between 16GB flash memory and a 160GB harddrive? If the 16GB flash memory version (guessing) costs maybe $179, this will be really interesting in regards of sales.

I dunno why the need two HDD models at this stage of the generation. Plus the fact you can upgrade the HDD yourself, the top model seems redundant.

Sony had at least 2 different hdd model ps3 this whole time, don't see why they would stop. And translating that website that leaked the photos, the 16gb doesn't seem like a typo.

Now this will become the center of my living room, true media center with tons of features and hdmi passtro.... oh wait.

Thinks mods influence posters politics. Promoted to QAnon Editor.
What are the odds of them going with
$149 16gb flash
$199 250gb
$249 500gb

Interesting question, $249 for 250GB would not really be a price drop, so they should be at the minimum:

$179 16GB
$229 250GB
$279 500GB

They should also allow DD games to be installed to USB drives, that would help a lot.

If real then I'm wrong. Right now I'm withholding judgement as there are several things that do not make sense.

1) Total power is 190 watts which is too high for a refresh.

2) Sony requested:
We are requesting the commision to grant short-term confidentiality request on the following attachments until 180 days from the date of grant:

External Photos
Internal Photos
Test Setup Photos and Test Setup Configurations
User Manual
But South America posts pictures but you can't get them from the official site only from a Blog?

3) Playstation model label closeup shown is NOT in any of the far shot pictures which is supposed to be the 4000 series PS3.

Maybe they have some 190 watt power supply from some older device [bigass TV] and they want to shove it in PS3 to be run in extremely power efficient and cold mode.

Most important thing I want to know is pricing of that 16gb flash model, and will we be able to upgrade HDD freely like before.

Me too. A $150 PS3 would be an amazing thing. I'm expecting $179-200, realistically. That's more important than cosmetics on something we only have blurry, potentially fake photos of.

Unless there are some features that make this an absolute must have, I'm thinking I'm just going to pick up a current slim.

Wow - that's ugly.

Not sure yet what to think about the design, will wait for press shots...

This is however still new console hardware, and that is something that should be applauded!

Maybe just unhooks a catch and springs pull it open.
I don't believe that somebody would make something that requires making such "big" move to close. I mean, with PS2 Slim drive, that would be equal to opening at a big angle - like 120 degrees or more. In reality, it opened a bit, so you could close it with a small/light/gentle move.
I hope you understand what I mean, I had some problems putting it in english... :-/

Two threads going on?
I'll post this here too then...

Made a cleaned up version of the front view of the system based on that blurry pic.
Probably not 100% accurate but its enough to see how it will look in proper PR shots i think.

All I can say is there must be some serious work done internally, because this looks shit compared to the current PS3. I hope it's fake.

I really hate the over hang and the mother ship ellipse. I was hoping for a more standard box shape, but I guess Sony want people to see the PS3 in your cabinet.

And a top loader won't work in my entertainment cabinet.

All I can sat is "Ribbed for her pleasure"
