Michel Ancel and Rayman dev team show up at fan(?) protest RE: Rayman Legends delay

You can't actually release late on Xbox 360 and you can't release late on PS3 without exclusive content.

Surely that's not the case anymore otherwise the game would have been announced as multi platform day one? Unless Sony and MS already knew :/

Seriously. They need to release this shit pronto.

Not only are Wii U owners starved for quality software

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
Whoa so those are actually TRUE? And publishers put up with it? That sounds like some SNES era shit. Amazing.

Yes. Adding to what Nirolak said, I believe a late port on 360 can be done if it has exclusive content (Cross Edge), but that only happened once or twice only I think.

So it's either release Wii U version now and add exclusive content on the PS3/360 versions later or delay the Wii U version and release them simultaneously. The latter one is cheaper to do I believe.

How did Razor's Edge get around this?

It's in Microsoft's right to refuse the title, it doesn't mean that they will.

Funny about Ubisoft since they published Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, which was a timed PS3 exclusive with no difference in content to the 360.

Well the game's leak said "Wii U version", so presumably it was planned as multiplatform for quite some time.

They care because they recognize that it's a really stupid situation and that it means a lot more pointless work for them to go through for something that is being hilariously timed to release alongside the biggest game of the year.

This stunt by Ubisoft is actually potentially bad for the Rayman brand and its future. The creator of Rayman would be remiss to not criticize Ubisoft execs.

First Ubisoft sent Rayman Origins out to nearly die during the christmas crunch, priced at $60 as a retail game.

Now they trash the release of an elaborate sequel - Legends was going to fill a starvation gap in the launch window of a new console, would have had no competition, and was a fairly anticipated release.

No bosses in my situation aside from the customers. Your choice of "cut your legs" is interesting though, quite emotive. If an employee is paid to deliver a product, what difference does it make to them what is done with the product when they're finished with it?

Again, I could understand it if it was never coming out (especially as they'd lose their credits on the title), but obviously that's not the case here.

I guess I'm just built a little differently.

I think some folks see their jobs as more creative than pure business and want the satisfaction of seeing their work in other's hands. Perhaps its vanity or undue pride in others, I don't know. But your way of thinking would definitely ensure you don't get burned out or really emotionally invested which could be seen as a good thing.

A few things in the way of that:

2) The fact that Ubi Mont's team in its near entirety would be picked up by someone else like lightning.

Are there really that many publishers just dying to fund a development team that has shown no reservation to repeatedly publicly air grievances about internal business decisions?

I'm not disputing they shouldn't be hacked off about the decision, but I do question whether it is worth compromising their professional reputation over it.

I guess I'm just built a little differently. I would be frustrated by the long hours, but my work in this case wouldn't be pointless. Plus I'd be expecting some well deserved time off. :)

These are artists who actually care about their project. They are proud of it and want people to enjoy it. They're not sitting on an assembly line screwing two pieces of metal together to eventually form a stapler or something.

Make Mobiclip/NERD a full-fledged team, they have an outlet in France that's not just Nintendo of France or whatever.

Ancel alone would shape them up into god-tier status.

Well, mobiclip Paris offices became somewhat a software R&D center for Nintendo. But it's more for applications, not games.

Some of you guys must sleep with the big companies. Holy shit.

It's pretty fucking disgusting. I always say that "gamers" get exactly what they deserve, and this is why. The insane fandom and callousness towards actual creatives extends far beyond the Valve/Nintendo/Blizzard zealots.

My aunt & uncle run a Mom & Pop store, "The Gamecube Hut", and sold 80k WiiU within minutes of opening.
Gotta admit, I'm having a little 'schadenfreude' imagining the tight spot Ubisoft has put themselves in.

Given the message on the banner (and the misspelling of "soutien"), I think it's a fan who went to see them with this and they just took photos with him for laughs.

Help me understand, but why is their spot so tight? What hard decisions do they need to make? Do they care? I doubt it.

Is this true???digusting MS is disgusting....and Ubisoft just showed who they really prefer, it seems. I wonder if Nintendo actually had something like this we would even see AAA third party games...

I'm sorry, Mr. Successful Businessman. It wasn't my intention to get in the way of your anti-consumer, anti-labor rights agenda.

It's fairly obvious to me that Ubisoft seems to have it out for Ancel.

They 1) release Beyond Good & Evil during Christmas, 2) release Rayman Origins against its own AC: Revelations and now 3) push back the release of Rayman Legends to end up competing against GTAV.

I don't mind that Ubisoft wants to do a multiplatform release of Rayman Legends (I don't have a Wii U), but if the game is done, it's done. The Wii U owners should be able to get the game as the original release date suggested.

Cmon now. It's about managing your employees. Nobody wants a scene that has an employee publicly calling the business' motives out like that. It's not anti-consumer. What the heck is with you Rayman people?

Pretty pathetic for a development team. If I was the CEO, I'd let them go after they were done.
Hahaha! I hope you don't run a company.

I'd say its pretty shitty for a company to expect their employees to work nights and weekends to meet a deadline only to say. "Thanks, btw we're not shipping it for another 7 months"

People are going to enjoy it - they'll just be enjoying it in a few months. It's really about perspective.

(Just so I'm clear here, I think Ubisoft made the wrong decision in a big, big way... but this protest wont change anything.)

It's not just the dev team, Michel Ancel (head of the studio) is there with them. They're insanely talented people, they'd be better off Ubi actually.

If you were actually a good manager/CEO, you wouldn't let it get to the point where one of your brightest star employees is publicly calling you out

this is uncalled for. If Ubisoft wants to maximize marketing effectiveness and hype by combining the releases, its a harsh, but solid call. the team needs to stop acting like a child not getting their candy. They got paid, they delivered the game to ubisoft. They are out of line, and should be thankful if they still have a job at Ubisoft when this blows over.

Maybe, but its not Ubi's fault that WiiU sales, especially software sales, are an absolute fucking disaster, enough to inspire absolute blind panic at the suit-level.

Though it seems apparent that Ubisoft doesn't feel the Wii U's userbase is sufficient to make their investment in the game worthwhile, pushing its release off for months of porting is pure sunk costs fallacy. 360 and PS3 owners will reject it outright and they'll lose even more money than if they'd simply sent it out to retail now.
