"Persona" YouTube clips getting hit by copyright claims from... a Russian actress?

Is there a chance this is like what Sega did recently where they try and axe everything that shows up in a search so that their content appears first? It was still a dick move when Sega did it, but at least they had a legitimate claim.

No, because this person clearly has nothing whatsoever to do with Atlus and even then Atlus isn't a dick to their fans.

Nope, no partnership at all, I had about 1800 subscribers and almost 500 videos uploaded but I don't get paid at all for what I do.

Damn that sucks.

Was asking cause maybe they could do something but you arent partnered even with that many subs? What the...

You misunderstood what I was saying. She works for Persona Stars, right? She probably wanted her content to appear at the top of YouTube when you search for Persona. So she does a search for it and starts filing copyright claims against everything she sees in order to get it taken down. This would also go someway to explaining why less popular videos have been left alone.

Someone could easily take down her videos by reporting that they own persona stars. What do you know. Her channel is no longer available.

Hope youtube restores the terminated channels.

For your information, Youtube isn't the bad guy here - the DMCA is, since it forces them to act this way if they want legal protection. Blame your stupid American laws for this mess.

Oh, blame the hackers of this Russian actress' Google account for hacking it and the Russian actress for not securing her account properly as well, of course, but the opportunity for this scam would not even be there if the DMCA didn't make it so easy to do.

So any word from any other Persona uploader?

No response videos?

No other updates?

Nothing is gonna be done...eh?
I was told that one of the YT moderators reported it to the higher-ups, so we just have to sit on it for now and see if anything's even going to be done about it.

Now that she's closed her account, now it's hard to even figure out what to do from here on out. Or if YT will even do anything about it.

So stupid, this situation.

That would be a fairly stupid strategy, if so. "Persona" is a generic enough word that her videos are never going to appear with that. At least Sega's stupidness was effective since those game's had a far more unique word.

Hopefully this leads to some sort of changes to the reporting procedure....

Then again I wouldnt be surprised if Google doesnt do anything....

Forgot to set my vids to private before i went to bed last night

Safe and sound. Sure it was SMT IV and dont have a lot of views, but nevertheless, my vids are safe :)

I have 1,863 YT subs and get over 20,000-25,000 video views a month and I don't have a partnership either. It's just not a priority for me.

I'm confused, I was under the impression anyone can "partner". That is, there are no more restrictions on monetizing your videos. Does "partnering" come with extra benefits?

They were talking about third-party partnerships, such as Machinima and Fullscreen. It's a lot easier to deal with copyright hits on your channel if you have a partnership with a group like those.

I only had 1 video that could have been possibly hit with this, but thankfully I didn't. What a mess this thing turned out to be.

The four videos I've ever uploaded on my account are Persona related with the most viewed being 4,192, but my videos were apparently set to private when this was happening and I'm sure the people who were hit by this were far more popular on Youtube.

Glad this seems to have stopped, though it really sucks for the videos and accounts that have already been hit.

Major publishers typically forbid you from profiting off footage from their games, and may at any time decide to shut you down with copyright claims. The video game content networks have deals in place with the publishers to avoid this, so anyone who's making any noteworthy amount of money of gaming videos generally has to belong to one.

Well, my counter notification status went from "Pending" back to "Submit Counter-Notification".

I guess this means Youtube rejected my request?

Man I would have hoped Youtube would learn its lesson after the NASA/Sega thing but nope. Don't the record labels have some kinda fingerprinting for videos in order to find copyright material in the first place? I know the DMCA means YT has to be trigger happy to CYOA so to speak but it's absurd that someone who has no claims can do something like this.

Here it says you need to complete the “Copyright School” which you probably already know.
I didn't know about the school, thanks. The offending videos have been blocked for years but I'm still not in good standing which I guess means I did not do it (to be fair it was actually games SEGA published under license so I guess they SEGA didn't want to be in trouble with the owner of the copyright or something).

I'm just kind of curious if there is any sort of counter-culture movement to Youtube which at least attempts to escape all the dumb bureaucracy that now surrounds Youtube/Google.

Vimeo isn't the answer I'm looking for here, by the way.

Just got an email from youtube from a counter-claim notification I sent youtube almost a week back.

Hello,

Thank you for your counter-notification. It has been forwarded to the party that sent the takedown notification.

If we receive no response, your material will be restored in 10 to 14 business days from today.

Regards,

The YouTube Copyright Team

And she closed her channel so guess I just gotta wait 2 weeks and my channel's going back up as far as I can tell, so finally some good news from all this.

That's good to hear. Now we just need to wait for the OST for the Persona games to be reuploaded as well as the Hiimdaisy comic.

Glad you are getting your channel back - will sub once it comes back!

Good to hear channels are restoring.
So is she one of those mail order brides?

So maybe I'm just crazy, but I've been typing in "persona" every day and seeing the number of hits that get returned

Last week went something like,
4.4 million, down to 4.2 million, then back to 4.3 million.

I check today... 3.3 million

Did a million videos just vanish off youtube?

Kinda, yeah.

I only heard that the issue got forwarded to higher-ups, but I don't see a single thing done about it yet because of bureaucracy.

And it's more complicated than that since the e-mail address for the claimant is kind of funky.

I hope people get their channels back soon. I wonder if it's still even going on now.

Sega did this exact same thing with channels specializing in Shining Force a few months ago. And now this Russian Actress has mysteriously disappeared, leaving the ball in the court of youtube, who won't do anything. And then a week later, Sega buys Atlus(index).

Atlus would've just shut them down and gone "deal with it", no reason to go jumping through hopes for this sort of thing when they can do it through proper channels.

For that matter they probably would've just targeted music or something and left, say, hiimdaisy comics alone.

EDIT: Granted that probably was a joke post, but I'd rather see some actual damn resolution rather than crazy conspiracy crap. And now that I think about it while understandable the new account thing just makes the whole thing look more pathetic.

Meanwhile the soundtrack videos still aren't. I think that one's going to be a little finicky.

Good for Strawberry! Really happy that account got restored.
