this isn't the multiplayer beta again as voodooextreme seemed to think in their news story, http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/news/44808/Men-of-War-Beta-Available-Again

but I'm pretty sure that thing is still available for fileplanet subscribers or previous beta dudes, http://www.fileplanet.com/promotions/men-of-war/

beta is 700 or 800 megs. don't remember.

all good.

was about to post this.

fileplanet subscribers can get in on the multiplayer beta now too. it's supposed to be going public any day now, but i'd advise playing this first as it serves equally as a tutorial.

i've been playing the closed beta for a while now and i'm pretty eager to hear what other people think.

Thanks, downloading now. For those who don't know (probably most of GAF), it's a 1C-published WWII strategy game.

why does this look exactly like War Leaders: Clash of Nations? are they made by the same people? both published by 1C.

War Leaders isn't published by 1C (at least it wasn't over here).

And they both look extremely similar to Codename: Panzers Company of Heroes - I guess it comes with the territory (WWII RTS).

edit: I meant look as in the graphics, not gameplay.

HOLY SHITZ!

"Men of War (originally known as Outfront II A3) is an upcoming video game and the sequel of the 2004 Real time tactics game Soldiers: Heroes of World War II"

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaa! THIS WILL OWN!

Soldiers: Heroes was freaking impossible. I couldn't get past the first mission! I should go back and try it again.

Im still waiting for a real 3d translation of the close combat games. COH was as close as I've seen so far.

Well, Combat Mission doesn't really play much like CC (but that doesn't mean you shouldn't try it!).

I love the Soldiers series. It goes out of its way to carve its own path, rather than trying to fit the conventional RTS mold. Demo should have included co-op

So is anyone on GAF actually playing this game? I just read the eurogamer review (9/10) and Men of War seems to be the kind of game I would enjoy. Never played Soldiers or Faces of War before, but I love Company of Heroes.

For those who are also interested in getting in the series, Soldiers is available on GOG for about 6 bucks. Faces of War is on D2D for 10. Love the series.

Good game. I couldn't never get in CoH but absolutely loved the day for this game here. Will be picking it up
right after spring break kicks in for me.

This is one of those things where I wish I could have read the review before it was pulled.

Looking past the glaring factual inaccuracies (that probably would have been passable if they'd been described as 'clunky interface'). I dunno, it also reminds me of the FM09 review debacle, maybe the game is 6.5 to some people. It's not inconceivable that someone would go into this thinking 'Company of Heroes' and walk out disappointed. Is that unfair? I don't have the answer. The game , like a lot of great Euro PC games, isn't aiming for the broad audience that a blockbuster American game is and maybe it shouldn't receive the same level of broad recommendation? Games aren't reviewed like movies, the top end of the scale seems reserved for the broadest appeal games, games so streamlined that its hard to find a flaw. I find that a little dull, but it's what people like.

The only problem with, specifically, the score here, is that they can't give a great, niche game a lower score, because they give bad, broad appeal games, the same score. How do you score a game when it's pretty good, but in a niche that a large section of your reading audience won't appreciate, knowing that your score is going to be aggregated. Give it a 10, or a 9, people will complain when they try it that it's hard and the interface is clunky, like this guy did. Go lower and you're pissing on a well made game because it's not made for you.

Again, I dunno.

Personally, I love this game, and the other two in the series. I only just found out theres a random mission generator patch thingy, so I'm going to go check that out.

:lol :lol That post was great at least. Damn, I really want to see this whole review aswell. Fucking gamespot SOLD OUT TO THE MAN. The Russia hating man.

Looks like Gamespot reviewed the game and only gave it 6.5

They did pull out the review because it was filled with errors

mainstream games journalism + eastern european strategy game =

i'm still (somehow) playing the beta. i'd like a steam release being the dirty, system hogging, stealth drm whore that i am. but if it's still showing no sign by summer i guess i'll reluctantly bite somewhere else.

yeah. i don't want to pay in euros when my country has such a laughably dipshit currency that it would our imperial forebearers puke into their beards.

according to the dms forums, 1c are currently "in negotiations with steam" regarding a men of war release after dms expressed interest. i guess that involves some gaffa tape, a gallon of vodka and bear tied to a pole.
