Literal nazis.

Ninja priests.

Zombies.

Fire demons.

Nazi-hunters.

Another Hitler's son.

This is the best anime ever since Valvrave S1.

I'm all for speaking about the ridiculous aspect of the show, but at least put those behind spoilers man I would have enjoyed finding out the ridiculous shit via myself.

Well, a project like MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM THUNDERBOLT commercialised on UHD BD is actually produced at 1440×810 for the conformed Digital Intermediate before the video upscaling done in authoring (there are other benefits for the use of the format, of course), but it is worth noting how, for example, the rendering of scenes integrating mostly animation of CGI assets are a more achievable prospect to be produced with higher base resolution targets in mind... than what has to be done with the line-art which is the main limiting factor on itself. All-time proponents of full digital animation like '.GIF generation' (or 'web-gen') godfather ryo-timo have been talking about the compromises derived from the (still necessary practically on every project) step of scanning paper sheets, of which it is very difficult to extract information easily usable for impending new standards. Using the 'AJA Fr01' A4 layout paper standard from The Association of Japanese Animations (http://aja.gr.jp/jigyou/chousa/aja_layout), that is distributed in files featuring graphs rated at 72 DPI and devised originally for a 720×405 base resolution in mind, for FHD to be resolved while keeping comparably fine detail intact data at 192 DPI must be obtained. To more comfortably work on such prospective ends paper sheets beyond A2 size should be used! However, and as Theonik mentions for instances like FX, composing each frame depends of several elements that could have been rendered variably, so the final result isn't entirely dictated by line-art alone; RURIN's famous spectrum analyses pointed how some scenes featuring mostly animation or rigging with 3DCGI models overall could be rendered at differing higher resolutions, on shows like Evangelion: 3.0.

There is also the matter of how it is actually possible to extract additional detail at 6K or beyond from 'Telecine' scans on old film stock at non-narrow gauge, depending on the kind of capture equipment used. What was crammed visually into the cels of some productions from Studio Ghibli (as an usual example) and photographically transferred into 35mm film can be now superiorly replicated in newer digital master conversions, that even could have extend dynamic range for reproduction to take advantage of more recent standards for AV consumer electronics products.

I'm a bit surprised Thunderbolt is that low rez at this juncture. Other studios are doing at least 1080p for theatrical features. So is it mainly an issue with the size of the paper then? I know some animators don't like working with the larger paper sizes because they conceivably have to do more work when they're paid by the sheet.

As for cels, wouldn't they need a new master scan in which some cases are impossible due to the loss of the originals?

Made in Abyss Episode 4:

Much better episode this time around and I like the character of Habo and really do wish he was going to be a party member but alas it is not to be. Kind of surprised that we hit the second layer this quickly as well.

Not of the painted cels, but a TK transfer of the original or 'raw' film stock that is well-enough preserved. Little can be done with how precarious the archival process was for the materials of many projects, with good ol' amateurish GAiNAX (even during the NGE series' production) being an infamous case in point... but on this industry mostly anything is done on the cheap after all!

What an awful first impression. The whole thing was so drawn out following our stereotypical boring protagonist and "perfect" female lead with a nerdy hobby. I don't have the patience for something like this.

Made In Abyss 4

I'm surprised they're moving that fast, though I assume not every layer will be that easy. Also, I find it rather interesting what they doing with the monsters, there's that soft painting artstyle, and while they seem to lose some details on the linework, they're animated more vibrantly. Not sure what's that method is, but it's pretty cool.

Goku and Nataku are so precious and amazing. I love this friendship so much, best.

But then also the Goku and Kenzen.

Really definitely top three episodes of the season so far.

That method is called 'being a brilliant madman of an animator like Kō "Aninari" Yoshinari'. :p

Konosuba Season 2 Episode 3

Lol at the explosion song.

Also Kazuma seems great at handling situations by giving out Succubus coupons lmao.

Kazuma did a good job at ditching Aqua. Also that treasure trap reminds me of Dark Souls.

Shingeki no Bahamut VS ep 17

TOP 10 ANIME ROMANCE.

Honestly so far in the series Chris and Nina romance is the best part of it because how screw up each other are in or rather Chris's situation is in. Like a over complicated Romero and Juliet play.

This is really cute and the second half of the series has really turned it around, the developing relation between Nina and Chris has felt sweet but it's not going to end in happiness and smiles :(

I think I have the same issue with this show as I had with Mushishi, which I haven't finished to this day because I have to be in a particular mood to watch stuff with this kind of pacing. Thinking about it, I guess most other shows have accustomed me to overreaction when it comes to comedy and such, so I sometimes feel "bored" when the comedy and character interactions themselves are more subdued and less prone to rapid-fire scenes like in this case.

Im just not enjoying this. I havent been enjoying it for a dozen or so episodes and I have no desire to even finish it anymore. Dropped.

Give it another two episodes. The initial episodes are a bit meandering.

Yeah, I'm not going to consider putting this show on hold yet. It looks like there will be an actual story being told as Rakka has an interest in world that lies outside of the great walls and also learns more about her circumstances.

I'm also actually glad that the characters themselves wondered why they were somehow born as haibane with some memories of their past life intact (like, say, language), since that probably means it was an actual plot point in the show, and that it's likely that it'll get explained eventually.

I was thinking about not watching more of this after the first episode but I guess I was just bored. It is very highschool romcom in a way that I was not expecting. In that sense it can be pretty dry/aimless, which is probably why loads of people tend to just walk away from shows like this. I will say though that the stuff relating to games is pretty well implemented, where it comes from a place of deeper understanding, and the subject matter comes up without feeling forced or like everything is a surface level reference.

I'd say that Pine Jam is doing a good job here too. There is a greater element of physical comedy here than I would normally expect from the genre, and the voice talent is well cast and strong outside of the girl with the messy hair. There is something amusing about seeing Megumi Han go from the female lead to the male lead in these types of shows, and speaks to her range. I dunno if I will keep watching, because it's all misunderstanding antics that wear on me really fast, but I would not be surprised if this was one of the more generally popular and well reflected on shows of the season.

I'm heading for Japan tomorrow. I'm sure I'll be crazy jet-lagged when I arrive, but hopefully I'll adjust well enough.

What largely grabbed me was the atmosphere in this show, right from the first episode. It has a very relaxed pace as well.

Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid - Good stuff! Very enjoyable and surprisingly funny. I could have done without the stuff that went on in the last episode though, I don't think it needed any of that. Or at least, I didn't like how it was handled, thought it was kinda lame. That aside, I was overall very pleased and would watch more of this if they ever make more of this.

I also wish she tried a bit of Tohru's tail. Just a bit.

Virgin Bahamuts - Episode 17

Lovely episode. I like the romance in this season a lot. It just works. Really cut interactions, and the production values are still solid. While it lacks the adventure aspects of the original series, I think the new characters are pretty great, and as long as the show isn't about Azazel, it's really enjoyable. Maybe they should kill him off and just have Lucifer take over as the main demon character. :p

Sorry to distract you all from cute girls doing cute things, but I've had some time lately so I've tried watching the Hunter x Hunter anime (the newer one).

I'm up to episode 6 but I'm really bored. It just seems like the sort of generic shounen I wouldn't even watch at age 12. How long do I have to go till it gets better?

Ghost in the Shell (2017)

I'm actually this close to buying the Blu-ray, A. because it has the Japanese audio option with Atsuko Tanaka, Akio Ootsuka and Koichi Yamadera dubbing over their original roles which might be mildly interesting to hear how they tried to salvage this, and B. it has Chinese subtitles so it'd be a thing that I can watch with my parents, which I try to do with whatever I get.
