Women harrassed while eating ice cream - "I don't want them here in my country"

Cynthia Ramsay, 58, who owns the ice cream shop with her husband, told BuzzFeed News that the man quietly whispered some remarks about the women to one of her employees, Jessie Noah.

“I’m not going to repeat what he said because I don’t want to create racial hatred,” said Ramsay, who was present during the incident.

It was the first time she had refused service to a customer in the three years since opening, she added.

“He said they shouldn’t be in this country. He was very, very rude, and he kept saying ‘them, them them,’” Ramsay said.

Ammari said that when saw the man returning to the ice cream parlor minutes later, she started recording him.

“He was pointing at our table and telling the employees, ‘You refused to serve me because you were serving them,’” Ammari said. “He assumed we’re not Americans and that he deserved to be treated better.”

The women, 21-year-old Malaak Ammari and 22-year-old Nura, were at Andrew's Ice Cream in Orange, California, with another friend, when another customer began berating them.

In a phone interview, Ammari said they at first paid little attention to the man, and only realized they were the target of his vitriol when the woman behind the counter escorted him out and began apologizing to them.

"We're just three Muslim girls," Ammari said. "We didn't know what to do, we didn't want to add more gas to the fire. It was already bad enough."

Ammari pulled out her phone and started recording when the man came back, accusing the staff of being rude to him. "You won't serve me, but you serve them," the man argued, according to Ammari, while pointing at their table.

In the 20-second clip Nura uploaded to Twitter, an employee of the shop can be heard escorting the man out of the shop while saying, "If you can't be nice, we don't want you."

As the man made his way out, he said, "I don't want them here in my country," pointing to the women's table.

"Too bad, we're here," Nura, who is in the video calmly eating her ice cream, replied. "Sucks for you!"

The man seemed to threaten the women, saying, "Too bad for me? You'll see what happens."

"You're racist! And this is on tape!" Ammari replies mockingly as the apparent Islamophobe exits the ice cream shop.

Ammari said another video, which was not uploaded to social media, showed the man come back and up to the window in an attempt to menace them, but that they all just laughed at him.

Ice cream should be bringing us together, not tearing us apart. These videos are always uncomfortable to watch because it's a terrible reminder that some of my neighbors are knee-jerking, irrational, prejudiced assholes. I liked the employee.

I can't help but feel bad for someone like that. How miserable is your life, that you do that? Or is it mental illness? There used to be a lady who used to scream "America is a whoooooore" over and over, in my old hood. You could hear it for like 5km. Since then when people make giant scenes for no reason, just to be hateful, I wonder if they're mentally ill.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
This guy must have a lot of fun getting through life if a couple ladies eating some ice cream gets such a response out of him. Watching modern television must drive this dude fucking batty let alone just walking around a major metropolitan area. I wonder what the statistics for stress related diseases are for bigots and racists if this is the type or reaction they have to such a mundane harmless thing.

First thing that came to my mind when we have a thread constantly bumped in which the guy, who has spewed shit like in the incident here, is inciting others to offend muslims (and other religious people but specially muslims). So basically it's what gaf put in my mind first rather than trump or any other hate monger.

I don't want to derail the thread, and I'm not a huge fan of Dawkins or anything, but pause before you start to ruin someone's name and wonder if you're doing the right thing. Look to see if you can find Dawkins ever saying anything remotely like this.

Eh rolling around Malibu beaches, near Santa Barbara, Ventura piers, Hollywood, Orange County, etc you still hear tidbits about Trump and 'fixing things' out here. I'm not surprised in the least. Out in the Central Valley it's way worse.

Understood, indeed we don't need to derail the thread, it was my attempt at a joke (others have done it better already a few posts above).

If you're curious, the Dawkins thread does have the tweets of Dawkins saying such things tho.

The reason for this is because people conceptually don't like the idea of someone losing their job over just some mean words because, to other white people anyway, that's all they are. Words.
