Why do you find it so hard to believe that this isn't just another regular ass racist throwing a hissy fit? These people exist, racism exist and in plenty.

You probably don't intend to come of this way, but this sentiment strike me as very similar to people refusing to admit to problems with gun control / gun ownership. It's not the guns, it's mental illness. It's not real racism, it's mental illness.
Who says I refuse to believe it? I'm entertaining the idea - I also entertain the idea he is a miserable hateful person in that same post.

Racists can just be racists, you know.
Sure. I know a lot of racist people who don't seem mentally ill. He could just be choosing to die on an icecream hill. But can I not wonder outloud if maybe this guy is deeply disturbed?

Andrew's Ice Cream in Orange, California

In the 20-second clip Nura uploaded to Twitter, an employee of the shop can be heard escorting the man out of the shop while saying, "If you can't be nice, we don't want you."

Sounds like I'm getting ice cream this weekend.

No, just regular America.
Trump did not create this, it was here long before him and it will be here long after he disappears from the spotlight.
Hell the republican party was this before Trump's nonsense.
While true, I feel Trump has made people much more comfortable being openly bigoted.

Or just emboldened by a society that has a long history of telling non-whites what they can or can't do.
There is no mental illness there, just a history of racism and bigotry.

Nah, they have always been like this. We have cell phones to record it now.

I want to take a second to say well done to the employee. Sadly from what I have seen and experienced employees can be absolute passive morons in such situations and do nothing. I got hit in the back with an elbow by some asshat some years ago while waiting in line and the staff did absolutely nothing. I was younger and almost returned the favor (which wouldn't have been smart I know) if not for my gf at the time being there. So it's good to see the employee doing the right thing.

We've had cellphones for a while now but it definitely feels like there is a lot more spotlight being shown on it especially as the right gets progressively crazier and crazier.

It perhaps may be the case, but more than likely it's just another instance of extremist hate. It's way too common to be a product of a deeply disturbed mind.

"You won't serve me, but you serve them"

Why didn't they serve him in the first place?

"In the first place"? Probably because he didn't have the opportunity to get served before he went on a racist tirade

So he went in and then just started saying racist things right off the bat? There's a step 1 that we are missing. We know step 2 and 3

I've had people call me and my friends chinkies and start ching chonging us unprovoked. Something is missing alright, but this is not unusual.

I don't understand what this has to do with Trump. Is he just the go to for any sort of racism now? The history of the US that predates Trumps run for office seems to suggest that it existed prior. Unless Trump is some sort of Time traveling immortal I doubt it is all on him.

It's entirely possible the women were in line first and he couldn't wait his turn before being a racist shit.

Trump is one of the inciters and enablers of this behavior that is prominently on the spotlight right now, so he's usually brought up.

Tying racism to Trump on social media is a political move, and a damn effective one even if there isn't any clear connection.

He's the current nominee for the party that is more accepting of bigotry. So while yes, he's not the originator, he is currently the proprietor in a political sense for this discrimination. That and he's spoken less subtly than most when it comes to the disenfranchising people of certain backgrounds. And that has empowered others to act in the same vein.

He's the face of the Republican party for this election cycle.

The idea being expressed here is 100% consistent with the views of the core Trump supporter and of the Republican base.

I think it's fair to call a spade a spade in this case. Whether someone overtly supports Trump or not, their subscription to the ideas he's running on is what gave him a successful platform.

Yeah, sure, it's all just politics.
No way Trump is a racist. No way at all. He even has a black friend.

I know, that's why I included the "you probably don't intend to come of like this" part. But to be fair, the majority of your post was expressing sympathety for this person, and leaning against explaining the situation with mental illness.

It strike me as almost a deep structure of the way we think, or how a lot of people think, maybe even subconsciously, that we are so easily inclined to associate (or entertain the idea of) white extremism with mental illness, while per default having no problem what so ever with judging non-white extremism as terrorism, pure evil or whatever.

Just a general observation, I don't mean to single you out or anything.

Racism is a historical part of the U.S. and continues to be a huge issue today. While racism has always continued to be an issue, Trump has given those that keep their mouth shut in public a platform to have their voices heard openly once again. That's okay to make racist or bigoted comments once again in public because a presidential nominee does it too.

So yes, Trump made it okay for people to be openly racist/bigoted and so people should be tied to Trump when they show their true colors like this man. He has given people the confidence to do so.

I'm not saying he's not. I think it's one of the best thing about this wacky election.

It's super easy to point at Trump and say "that fucker is aggravating all this shit".

What kinda hard core piece of shit do you have to be to not even be cool in a goddamn ice cream parlour?

This was pretty much my first thought as well. But there's no accounting for how a racist mind works though. If you're already in a place where you feel actual hatred toward another person simply because they're different from you, you're probably not going to think about picking your fights carefully.

This kind of thing has been bubbling under, amidst a sub-section of angry white guys who feel emasculated, for a while now and yes, dicks like trump and over here in the UK, nigel farage absolutely are enablers. It gets frightening at times.
