WTF is going on with FF Type-0?

I need to try playing it on my TV again since getting full upscaling capabilities. Yes, I know it will look like a blown up PS1 game and it will be GLORIOUS.

I still haven't done a 2nd playthrough.

Good analogy/assessment actually. I'd call it still very critical but more stable now overseas. At least it hasn't you know deteriorated past that. I want to say its in severely critical condition here in the US and Europe. I won't use the term grave condition yet. Somehow, it is managing to survive..barely but it is still managing that none the less.

Sega Saturn was a healthier platform. Let that sink in.

How viable is it to play for a person that has zero knowledge of Japanese?

I don't speak Japanese and have played through it 3-4 times. There's a spreadsheet on GameFAQs that helps you figure out what you need to (which you will need for the Final Dungeon) but pretty much everything else is "reach the orange marker to advance."

How many playthroughs are required for this?

Sorry for the non-stop questions, I'm just kind of busy nowadays and try to manage my time as well as I can...

2 for story purposes/to access all missions. Kind of sort of 3 for all endings (or you know, just don't save after seeing one and do the other, then 2 for all endings.) 3 if you want to gain access to the Super Boss fights and Tower of You Cannot Win Here.

Thanks for the feedback. I still have the game around somewhere but since I'm getting a Vita soon is the game is dirt cheap on PSN (for Japanese standards) I will probably transfer my saves and double dip on digital.

I dunno, I bought it on UMD. I'd buy a Vita if this came out for it, though.

Seriously how can SE leave a good FF game like this only for Japan and doesn't bring it here in the west?

It's their biggest franchise worldwide ... they don't want our money?

Ok PSP is dead in the west.... but how about an HD port to the PS3 instead? other companies did an HD port from handles to consoles so why not to do the same thing?

You need money... we need this game, it's simple!

You will take your PS2 ports and like it.

I have it on UMD too! I just don't use my PSP *at all* anymore, whereas I'll definitely have my Vita with me for commute and whatnot. I'll probably never get around beating the game on PSP ahah...
Type-0 PSN being 2100¥ is nice too, that's only like 15€.

Yeah, that's half what I paid for the UMD.

The yen gets cheaper by the day thanks to our traitorous prime minister who is determined to make export companies profitable at the expense of his own nation's savers. A year or so ago, one yen was worth more than one euro cent!

Only once in the past five years has a major world currency collapsed like the yen has in the last six months (the GBP, in 2009). A looming disaster for people in Japan with substantial savings, but great for people looking to import Japanese stuff. If you were on the fence in 2011, pull the trigger now.

Wow. Japan's been in recession for 20 years, its industry has been gutted by the rise of Chinese manufacturing and free trade agreements, and the balance of trade is completely out of whack. Screw savers (not that I understand how they're being screwed here). Abe is doing the right thing.

I'm going to pull the trigger. Is play Asia my best choice?

Yes. That's where I bought my copy. You can even still get the original (non-Ultimate Hits version) for a bit more money. My game is ready and waiting for the fan translation to complete.

Also, MagiusNecros, I have to thank you for the hard work you've been doing on the translation. You're doing a great service to us fans, sir!

SE has been pretty braindead for awhile making decisions that make people wonder how they're still in business.

Given the current trend of things, its no surprise they're going downhill.

This is the only SE game I'm curious about since forever and I don't expect SE to pull the trigger in releasing it ever.

I heard the game was translated, and Dubbed in english, I want to know why this isn't out, why is SE doing this!

Because this game kicks ass unlike that Lightning Saga thing and well that's bad publicity for Lightning the goddess of perfection.

It was a PSP game in the wrong place (the west) at the wrong time (when most retailers dropped the PSP).

They also claim they had monstrous piracy with Dissidia (didn't they say like 5 million recorded downloads or something? Not sure if I buy that but still...), so I guess all these things contributed to them deciding not release.

Seemed like a waste to do all that work and get no return on it though.

Son't be silly. They wouldn't have gone through the translation work if they had intended on just plain not releasing it and planned it accordingly with the western PSP decline.

I honestly think they thought the Vita would take off and they would be safe. And then boom.

It seems no one post it yet, so here is an article from Operation Suzaku about Robin Kodaira, Localization Specialist/Project Manager at Square Enix who worked (at is still working?) on the Final Fantasy Type-0 localization.

Interesting. However I care not. Square likes it's secrets. I thank thee for thy info.

Edit: One day they stumble upon this after our update. Coincidence? I think not.
