As any customer of Nintendo's various DD services can tell you, they certainly aren't lacking in great software. Unfortunately, what they do lack is a great interface to show off that software. That's where GAF comes in!

Included below is a list of recommendation and review threads to give you a few ideas about where to spend your Nintendo Points - and where not to!

So, is the US getting Bomberman Hero tomorrow, or is it going to be one of those situations where NoA makes us wait a bunch of weeks for no reason before releasing it? Though either way, it seems pretty silly to buy it on Virtual Console when you can get the cartridge version from amazon or half.com for several bucks cheaper.

I tried the rage of gladiator demo. Not a half bad experience plus it's pretty accurate with m+. Can't see myself playing it all that much though, demo was enough.

Anyway, hope we see FAST this week or next.

Bomberman Hero? I thought Hudson Entertainment was no more? A very nice surprise though. This is the first VC Bomberman, right?

No, a couple of the TG-16 bombermans were already released.

Why Bomberman Hero? What's stopping them from releasing Bomberman 64, the one I'd suggest people would far more prefer? I mean Hero doesn't even have multiplayer. I think it had some Memory Card stuff in it -- that usually keeps games out of VC, yeah?

The more N64 the better. This is only the second third-party N64 title -- though both titles were originally published by Nintendo in one region or another.

Hudson ENTERTAINMENT is no more (i.e. the American arm of Hudson). Hudson itself and its properties are still very much alive and owned by Konami I believe. Hudson Entertainment was shut down because its entire purpose could be easily handled by Konami itself in the US.

edit - I see it says Hudson Entertainment in the publisher section. Hmm.. guess this one was in the queue before Konami shut them down. Wonder if that means future VC releases end up showing Konami as the publisher instead.

I haven't played Bomberman 64, but I don't see why anyone would want it over any of the other 3 Bomberman games on the Nintendo Download service which are cheaper than Bomberman 64 would be and presumably play exactly the same. Meanwhile Bomberman Hero is only the second 3D platformer to come out for the Virtual Console (and that's only if you're generous enough to call Mario 64 a platformer), so it fills a much bigger hole in the Virtual Console library, and it's also a pretty good game if you can get over the fact that it doesn't play like every other Bomberman game. It doesn't use memory card saves AFAIK.

I was coming to bitch about the same thing. There are other games on VC that use the memory card, though Bomberman 64 would feel more naked without it. Customizing characters for multiplayer was a Good Thing.

It doesn't. Bomberman 64 plays completely differently, which made it disappointing at the time as the only one on the system, but now makes it preferable to getting a 150th version of regular Bomberman. I never played Hero, but Wikipedia describes it as a sequel to Bomberman 64 but without the multiplayer.

Here's a video of multiplayer.

Not a big fan of Bomberman Hero, but another 3rd party N64 game is encouraging. Fingers crossed we still see Goemon's Great Adventure and Mischief Makers eventually.

wut. If Mario 64 isn't a 3d platformer then what game is?
I dunno, any game which focuses mainly on using precise jumps and movement to negotiate a series of strategically placed obstacles? To be fair there's more platforming in Mario 64 than in, say, Banjo-Kazooie, but the bulk of the game still involves figuring out where the stars are located and what you have to do to collect them.

OK, I stand corrected on Bomberman 64. But Wikipedia's description of Hero is pretty much wrong, it's a straight 3D platformer with some light puzzle solving. I still think a release of an overlooked game in an underrepresented genre is more interesting than another typical Bomberman game.

I ask again-if not Mario 64 then what game? Can you name one that is more of a 3d platformer than Mario 64? I suppose Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 are answers I'd accept but I can't think of anything else, since most non-Mario 3d platformers seem to follow the Banjo Kazooie model.

Not really, a third of the game's stars involve running around a level looking for coins to collect and the majority of the remaining stars consist of doing random tasks like defeatiing a certain enemy, or sliding down a hill, or touching treasure chests in a random order, or picking up a rabbit or a monkey or swimming through rings or riding a koopa shell across a pool of water or launching from a cannon to break off a piece of a wall or

Some of the more popular 3D platformers like Rayman 2/3, Ape Escape, Ratchet and Clank etc. aren't good examples though since they focus more on other aspects with the platforming thrown in as an afterthought, but there are dozens of other examples I could name where timing and precision is the primary focus. Bomberman Hero, for one. Crash Bandicoot, Sly Cooper, Jak and Daxter are based a lot more heavily on platforming fundamentals than Mario 64, even though they inject other forms of gameplay for variety. Lots of early PSX/Saturn platformers like Croc, Jersey Devil, Bug!, etc. are focused almost entirely on platforming fundamentals but noone really remembers them because they were very flawed mechanically. Ball rolling games like the Monkey Ball or Kororinpa series are the purest form of 3D platforming there is. Puzzle platformers like Kula World which require precise timing and movement to get the puzzle solutions to work. I could go on, but the point is that the platforming in Mario 64 took a back seat to the adventure/exploration aspect.

Hey, can anyone tell me what Bomberman Second Attack was like. I hear that it was the sequel to Bomberman 64, but is the multiplayer more similar to BM64 or more like your classic Bomberman action?

I've never played 2nd Attack and Youtube is seemingly bereft of multiplayer videos (I can only see one and it shows a pretty standard stage)

The OFLC rated Super Adventure Island, so it looks like Hudson is now suddenly planning to release the whole series (Give me Super II please).

Nice. Here's hoping that the Super Bomberman series follows as well!

Also, because I haven't gotten an answer yet. I repeat!

Good thing you copied and pasted the entire two paragraphs because theres no way anyone would have seen the last time you asked two posts up.

Joy! More Metroidvania-ish goodness on VC is call for celebration. Now if only would could get Demon's Crest.

The developer of lilt line released the sales numbers for iOS and WiiWare.

iOS: 3815 (on sale for 22 months at £1.79 / $2.99 in Europe and US)
WiiWare: 3,756 (on sale for 3 months at $5 in US only)

At first it seems the Wii version is selling pretty well considering the iOS version is cheaper, been out longer and available in both the US and Europe.

But then you read this:
so far the wii version has sold 3,756 copies in the us. if we don’t get past a threshold around twice that in america nintendo will never pay us anything.

the eu store has a similar threshold.
Well that kind of sucks.

WTF? Estimating Nintendo's cut at 20%, the developer has about $15K coming to them. So if they don't sell, say, $30K, they never get paid ANYTHING? That is some bullshit.

And the EU and US stores count as different products, so you could sell $15K in both places and never get paid? Wow.

I guess I'll go buy a copy of liltline.

That does suck. I wonder what percentage of Wiiware games even hit the threshold, in any region? Could explain why so many Wiiware projects have been cancelled/moved to other systems. Does anybody know if Lilt Line was ever in the top 20 weekly sales in the US?

Oh wow a new G.G game and Bomberman Hero? This is a pretty nice week! Loved the soundtrack to Bomeberman Hero.

As others have said, I would have picked it up if it was Bomberman 64 and not Hero.

There's a lot of untouched Nintendo 64 library left to be released.. Goemon titles, Space Station Silicon Valley, Body Harvest, Mischief Makers, Tetrisphere. Hell, I'd even like to play Chameleon Twist again.

Maybe we'll get Pilotwings 64 with the 3DS launch though, yes?

Haven't played it myself sorry, but from what I remember reading back then yea its multiplayer was more like the classic Bomberman games and single player was similar to 64 but not as good.

I wish they'd release Goemon. ;( Got the first one randomly way back in the early N64 days and LOVED it lol, cool platformer/adventure, funny, and amazing music.

What a let down. I really loved it. It's the perfect sort of game for its price range.

I expect Nintendo's download service on their next system to either be better at promoting titles or entirely bereft of quality developers due to how poorly things have gone this generation.

Lilt Line had a brief stint at the bottom end of the Top 20 during its debut week. Note that they are not weekly sales, but rather, give an indication of sales recently. There have been reports that the difference between the games selling in the top 10 and the ones below is pretty staggering.

I'm surprised Lilt Line sold that low on iOS, to be honest. Looked like a great mobile game.

Either way, the 6k turnover has been discussed before. It's Nintendo's way of ensuring they profit from a game's release on the service, regardless of actual sales. Unfortunately, it does little to help smaller developers and probably is hurting relationships here and there.

How Nintendo deals with developers, particularly the smaller ones, needs to improve greatly if they expect to hold a candle to XBLA for services. Then again, I have a feeling Nintendo is going to just wait it out for the eShop to fix things, now, and leave WiiWare to live off what remains of support.

I thought Lilt Line was free on iOS.

I remember getting it free when it first released.
Great game.

They should just go to Steam.

Will be interesting to see if Vanish+Doom kills stuff immune to insteant death (vanish causes magic to always hit accidentally ignoring instant death immunity), darkness does nothing (shjould halve accuracy...), physical evade does nothing (all attacks are based off magic evade) are fixed for FFIII on VC.

Minor ROM edits are made to VC games and all of the above reuqire just that. Still it would be nice to have a version avaialble with these "flaws".

Of course, I'm pleased its not emulated like the SEGA imports
the game crashes during the ending if you're running in 50Hz

I did not know it was never, I thought it was they would pay you 24 months after release regardless. Forcing the regions to be segmented does not really help them reach that goal either.

Which version of Castlevania: Rondo of Blood is the better version? They have 2 versions in the Wii Shop Channel, the SNES version, and Turbo Graphics 16 version.

You sure about that? I don't think Dracula X for the SNES is on the VC yet. My Wii isn't online now so I can't check for sure, but according to various websites the only SNES Castlevania game on VC is Super Castlevania 4. In any case, you should get Rondo of Blood for the Turbo, you won't regret it.

Okay I don't actually think the SNES version of Dracula X is on the VC, but if it is DON'T PICK IT.

It's like a Mac'N'Cheese version of a fine Italian pasta. The TG16 version is amazing and superior is literally every aspect.
