Dragon Age Inquisition: Gameplay series Part 1- The Hinterlands

The combat looks a bit more lifelike than Skyrim, which is good. But not really on par with Dragon's Dogma from what I've seen, at all. If they took inspiration from Dragon's Dogma, that would be great. I wish more developers would acknowledge that it set the gold standard in many areas. The game was so underrated.
DD is awesome, truth. However, DA still has to cater to two completely different CRPG gamers.

- Those who want Divinity/BG type of top-down party strategy.
- Those who want Dragon's Dogma or Dark Souls deep action

Trying to appease both is impossibruuu

-"The overall tone is more neutral," wrote Laidlaw, "until you hit what we call a 'reaction' hub, where you can respond more strongly, often to questions, by being pleased, stoic, angry, sad, etc."

I don't like the sound of that at all. That sounds worryingly close to Mass Effect 3, where Shepard turned into an actual character that you got to make decisions for every now and then, rather than a blank slate through which you interacted with the world.

You still auto-attack. It won't feel like Dragon's Dogma.

The enemies do look more lifelike than Skyrim, sure. But you don't even actively block in this game as far as I know.

Party based v single?

I think they probably saw the sales of Skyrim, and specifically tried to make it like Skyrim. I think they even said they were inspired by it in interviews.

I never said on par in combat I mean come on, because it is not even close. It is more like a decent filler for me until capcom realizes it is sitting on black gold.

Back to my skyrim comment.

Every rpg developer says that about their game to get all the mindless sheep that enjoy that glorified world sim to consider their game. So really their statement does not mean or say much own it's own.

Well now I want to play that. Is it worth picking up a cheap last gen console for?

A whole console? That's hard for me to tell someone. I certainly loved the game, intensely. But I'd say if you can find several games you want, go for it. You can watch a lot of gameplay footage of it too on youtube if that helps you make up your mind. The game is unusual though in how good it actually feels to play. It's made by the Devil May Cry team, which don't even usually make RPGs.

It has very little story though. It's basically all about the combat and exploration. Mostly the combat.

You have a party in Dragon's Dogma.

Ehhhhhhh...

Dunno if I'd count the Pawns as full fledged party members.

Dunno where you're getting that from. This is explicitly a move against that sort of character; if you don't want your guy to react to something... don't. Maybe you don't find the burning of a village horrifying, maybe it's just business as usual. You can do that now.

Really?

I mean really?

Sigh.
Is it the first you seenone some bash that mediocre overrated piece of shit rpg called skyrim? As an RPG it was terrible not even worth talking, as a exploration game it was fairly OK. Skyrim the game u buy on the PC for the honor of improving and fixing most the issues yourself except the most important ones.

It's definitely a unique variation. You can't swap to control them like in Dragon Age. But the game has you using a team of fighters all the time, and you have team attacks constantly.

It's unique though, I agree. It's like you have a team of guest characters, but you can choose who to hire in a really unique way, and customize your personal pawn of course.

A whole console?.

The game has piqued my interest for awhile, and last gen consoles are cheap enough that I can justify a bluray/media streamer device with a couple of games that interest me. Last of Us, Journey, and Dragons Dogma seem worth the entry.

Oh - well then you don't really have a team. In the former you independently control several members every action. In the latter you essentially control a single entity. Still jazzed about DD, though.

And Demon's Souls couldn't hurt! There's a fair amount of Japanese games that don't make it to PC. I'd look there, and Sony first party to start.

That is correct.

I actually bought a PS3 to play just that game. PVPed like crazy on it. Then sold the PS3. :/

Looks very promising.

I wish they show some footage from the character customization. It often helps me decide what race I'm gonna play before the game is out. :)

Looks sweet, and the gameplay / combat looks fun too. I've had my eye on this game since E3 2013.

Frostbite + Dragon combat = Awesome, day one.

Looks pretty good so far, if they are gonna go with the action combat, it seems to be a lot better than Dragon Age 2. The big zones looks good as well and hopefully have some sweet things to find when exploring.

However, still a bit skeptical because its Bioware and they haven't done much lately that would make me hope for them. Also in the small village or town among the ruins, the other NPCs look so stiff now compared to how The Witcher 3 have made it.

Still, I like a good party based fantasy RPG so I really hope it turns out good.

Yeah, I thought so. Kind of surprised he sounded like such a goofy, and talkative character (for at least that segment). They had Iron Bull, a female archer, and a female mage as support characters.

The team in the video is IB, Serah (the Rogue), and Vivienne (the Mage), specifically.

I love that the most consistently made comparison between DAI and Witcher 3 is that the NPCs are static in the former.

So it's either? That's interesting.

It's meant to be really customizable so you can get the combat working in a way that's comfortable to you. In one of the E3 demos (I think IGN), Mike mentioned setting it to pause after each action is taken so the combat has this flow to it that feels turn-based.

I'll echo that. Bio is dead meat in more ways than one if this fails.

Pfft. It's EA. It'll probably be the highest selling thing the week it's out, whether that's through critical acclaim/positive word of mouth, the fact it's on five platforms or both.

BioWare is no more at risk of being "dead meat" if this fails than DICE was when BF4 came out.

I have little interest in Dragon Age (mostly due to my own ineptitude, I got horrifically stuck in the first game on the "defend the village from waves of zombies" mission and put the series aside in disgust), but I just wanted to mention that Harry Haden-Patton may not be well known to American videogamers but he is a very much up-and-coming British actor who is definitely known on the theatre circuit for some pretty high profile shows in London so should do a good job on voicing the lead.

Is Inquisition another Press A To Awesome game like the meme went about Dragon Age 2 or is it returning to something more like the first game?

Know what this gets me hyped for? TESVI and Fallout 4. The visual fidelity in open world games is really blowing my mind this gen.

Please don't insult DA:I by comparing it to that mediocre world Sim with dumb dragons.

It seems like a dragon's dogma lite game.

*People who try to belittle obviously well-produced and well-received major games and don't realize doing so just lowers their credibility*

Same here. Graphics were always the one big thing that I felt left something desired and I definitely feel renewed by the new games of this gen. I'm a console guy and I'm glad to see things much closer to graphics that satisfy me for a longer term.

Mass Effect's only semi-overlapping audience with its less popular sibling franchise DA, means BioWare will be just fine even if Inquisition underwhelms. The new ME saga is hotly awaited.

Throw some pretty graphics around and people forget just how awful the last game was, or the way ME3 was handled.

DA2 is my most hated game of forever and always, but this is looking pretty damn good. I want to see more of the roleplaying in the second video, but this did a great job of showing off the expanse of the world. I assume the combat difficulty was turned down for demo purposes, too, so I won't bitch about how easy the combat looks. Visually stunning game for sure. I can't even recall a game that has improved in that regard as much as this one is shaping up to be.

Footage shown in the OP is from last gen (X360)?

It's the PC version with a 360 pad plugged in. Come on now.

Can't tell if the player is noobish or is just that camera that automatically makes it look that way. C'mon show more tactical view combat.

You know, I think that no matter how much of it they will show, there's an issue at the source here: they keep trying to make everyone happy and mix things, but you can't make a fusion of action combat and tactical combat work, they are like water and oil.
You will end having both sides average at best, maybe even worse.

You realize there are people who don't like Skyrim, right?
A sentence loaded with "dumb dragons," "world sim," "mediocre," and an "insult" are different than not liking it. It's irrational teardown of a praised successful project to the point of hyperbole. It's not a Runescape ripoff in an App Store and a description like that would make the speaker sound like a joke if they really pushed that language for a AAA hit like Skyrim around industry people.

What do you want to know about console versions?

They play PC version with a controller, console version is the same game, same engine, probably minor graphical differences.

So did ubisoft with Watchdogs.

Not interested in what the game looks like on dual titans...
