So, how's the smash demo/jpn release? Curious for some FGW opinions.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=129807734&postcount=1193

I'm going to play more tonight and figure stuff out. My post didn't go too indepth, but it was just a quick write up before going to bed. Long story short, the game design seems a lot more sound than Brawl (you can tell there's more thought put into the decisions). Plus, though the single player aspect, I don't think Brawl's changes added enough to make the game feel fresh. Brawl felt more like Melee with a lot of stuff cut, removed, and feeling awkward. Smash 4 has that "it feels different, but it feels good".

Edge guard game is going to take some time getting used to with the changes done.

So um...apparently Smash Bros 4 is a in between Brawl and Melee. Dunno if people played Melee but this game is slow as heck. it's actually slower than Brawl. I'm not really enjoying it. It's actually pretty bad D:
Sorry :(
Hopefully the Wii U version doesn't feel like this :/

Shit man I really don't want to get a Wii u for like one game.

I felt the same when I got an xbox one for Killer Instinct. Hindsight I should have waited and saved my money but impulse buys get me every now and then. Look at this way if you buy a Wii U for Smash you get Pokken as a bonus one day ;)

I played a ton of Brawl and I'll be the first to tell you if it's as slow and no it isn't. That said, it's not Melee fast at all.

I still play Brawl (Well Project M) to this day and Link feels nowhere near as clunky and sluggish as this. I don't like the change to his running+A. His boomerang animation is incredibly slow to the point that it's clearly unsafe(I play keep away Link). His arrows are worth using since it's slow. His standing UP+B has a bad animation, is slow and moves at an awkward angle. His jumping A (Kick) has nerfed priority.

It really isn't that good :/

I'd said it before and I'll say it again; the wiiu has the most interesting library out of all the current gen consoles.

Eh, I can only name a few. Wii U has Bayonetta 2 and Wonderful 101 not much else (unless you can name some other games I might be missing out on).
Also, Xbox ha Killer Instinct.

I would hope that the Wii U version is more fluent than the 3DS version.

I looked through all the final smashes for SSB4 and most of them are unchanged and look the exact same :/.

Nice, I haven't seem bum stream in a while.

Yeah man, he still does the sessions every Thursday, this is his first Saturday tournament in a while.

He's been talking about putting together a banned character tournament, plus a killer's-only tournament with Yipes, MarlinPie etc. for either the next weekend or the weekend after too.

Yeah, if you're expecting the game to compare to Melee in any way - you'll be disappointed. I think the game could be interesting in its own right - but I'd be lying if I said it's likely to end up as more than a mere diversion for Melee fans. Without certain mechanics, the ceiling simply isn't there.

This is still the best Link has ever been, probably. Controlling space with zair and items is really good.
Sol is the Melee Falcon of the Guilty Gear series I love him. Once I get back into the series I'm going to transition more from Ky to Sol.
Eh, maybe AC Sol just because of Sidewinder loops. Other than that, Sol has nothing that's hype as Falcon.

I just think Sol is dumb and boring as far as gameplay goes.

This is really the best Sol description I've ever seen.

That's just Link specific stuff though. Admittedly, I don't think this incarnation has anything on Project M's abomination (Link should never be that good
I'm joking out of salt
) and is quite meh versus other characters but the game itself doesn't suck because a character isn't the best.

you can tell the quality of a smash game based on how well captain falcon plays!

The rest of Nintendo's first party offerings for starters.

But you could apply that to every Nintendo console. That's always the case. If anything, it's the only reason to buy those consoles because you know you're getting Mario and Zelda. The main reason I'm buying a Wii U is for Bayonetta 2. Honestly that does look incredible.

Completely agree. It's like saying every other Street Fighter game isn't as good because it's not Third Strike. But Smash Bros 4 (does it even have a name yet?) doesn't feel like a game that's improved. It just feels like the poor-mans Brawl. I know I'm going by the demo but ever since I've seen it's it's just not been interesting.

I'm hoping the Wii U is going to be something special because I'm still not sold on this game yet.

True but I never said the game sucked. I'm just saying it's underwhelming. It's also not just Link. I just used Link as an example of how the changes to the mechanics have effected all the characters with Link being a prime example. Based on the characters available, it feels pretty half-arsed. I don't like how Mario and his changes feels. I don't like the air dodging. Megaman isn't fun to use. Pikachu has some questionnable changes. It's 1am so I'm too tired to type out all the problems. Again, hopefully the Wii U version is gonna be incredible because I'm not sold on this... and I love the Smash Bros series.

Just like Falcon, Sol can still be a great representation for YOLO play. Sidewinder is every bit as satisfying to land as a Knee, both character's grabs can kill you and Grand Viper/Side B both engulf opponents in flames and require good reads to land. Both characters are ostentatious as fuck and full of energy that manifests itself in the form of fire and electricity. Flash for days.

Just like Falcon, I find that Sol isn't inherently boring but can be played in a boring way by boring people - or people just not invested in the character.

A Pretty Panda

fuckin' called it, man
Should leave items on in tournaments. But just the boomerang and just if mega man is playing.

Also Villager can pocket like all of Mega Man's attacks. Even dair and fsmash

i dno if sol is boring...anything that allows kosoru to play the way he is able to and still be a good player seems like an interesting character design. in fact thats something i like about gg is that it is flexible and creative enough to allow some really weird, quirky player styles to come through and still be successful players ie: DC johnny who always gets rid of his coins like there is no tomorrow, Kusoru sol who is just fucking nuts, Tsubu ABA who insists on finishing people off in normal mode for some reason. like the way NO played venom is completely different than how Fino does, same with maruken, sharon and kuni baiken.

Oh, there's a second Hugo video. Does this guy play IRL tournaments? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XjN747Kx11c&list=UUrdv7hXlr2PFmQ2N0DBulqg

Actually, seeing more of your opinions typed out, I understand what you mean to some extent. My only real complaints/concerns begin and end with how big the blast zones are for the majority of the stages. I'd certainly appreciate more gravity, momentum conservation from jumps and more dash options (bigger turn around windows before doing the sliding turn around animation to allow dash dancing [and thus better footsies/baiting maneuvers], crouch canceled running/dashes so you can do things like d-tilt pokes or feints into f-tilts/grabs), but there's enough here this time around that I want to see it develop for a bit longer before throwing any definite critiques on the game.

The cosmetic stuff though hasn't bugged me too much but that might be more because I see this as the small hit before the big fix in the Wii U version.

I really hope I'm not setting up for a fall being this optimistic.
