Steam "Exploration Sale" -- i.e. Autumn Sale -- now live (November 26 - December 2)

So many good games on sale today.

Divinity: Original Sin: a great resurrection of the CRPG genre. I highly recommend getting the Collector's Edition that includes two copies and giving the other one to a friend also loves the genre. I don't think there has been another game outside of playing with a DM in Neverwinter Nights that has recreated the feeling of a pen and paper RPG experience like this game has. Also, pick up Wasteland 2 while you're at it, and your life will be complete.

ARMA3: If you dedicate enough time and find a clan of like minded players, it can provide one of the most unique and atmospheric gaming experiences ever. Nothing compares to having a real person orchestrating the mission you are on for a group of 30+ players all working together. This game definitely rewards the time and energy you put in to it.

The Secret World: Single handedly revived my interest in MMOs. Wholly unique setting, really well written, even enjoyable in small doses and has no treadmills or grinding. No monthly fee and is still regularly updated with new content that continues an overarching storyline. I also love the aesthetic of a bunch of hipsters joining the illuminati to take on C'Thulhu. It's also capable of being just as humorous as it is grim and dark. Also, the level of character customization is similar to Guild Wars where you can choose 2 classes to combine and mix and match skills with unlimited re specialization. Quest design is also quite original and often times requires a great deal of puzzle solving that can even require you to investigate and find clues outside the game.

Ultra Street Fighter IV: This is the best fighting game on PC, and in my opinion, is one of the greatest achievements in animation and art direction from last gen. Pick a character you like based on how they look, not on balance or tier lists. While there is nearly no tutorialization in the game, there are several sources in the community to get information on how to improve your play if you're interested in taking it to that level. Otherwise, mash with your friends and you'll still get the same amount of enjoyment, if not more.

Age of Wonders III: Really great amalgam of Heroes of Might and Magic and Civilization. Turn based battles on the scale of something like Total War. Amazing graphics for the genre it's in and really impressive in scope and balance. Game sounds more complicated than it actually is, and is almost instantly familiar to fans of any of the three games mentioned before.

Not marked on the front page, but Arma II and its expansions are on sale on the Steam store. They're all 80% off, and you can play the DayZ mod for as little as $5 this way (though the better package is $8).

Great deal for those who missed the Humble Bundle with it ages back, and you can say shove it to DayZ SA and its pricing.

Grimrock II looks really enticing based on the description and most parts of the user reviews but that mouse driven interface looks clunky as hell based on the video. Is it as bad as it looks or is it more intuitive in practice? Only thing keeping me from snagging it right now.

Also to anyone on the fence about Divinity: OS, that game is well worth the time of anyone into party based RPGs and might have the best combat in any turn based RPG ever. Almost certainly my GOTY and worth way more than it's on sale for now.

Yes game has waifus. Buy.

You can even have an undead waifu!

I'm surprised I didn't get a "whynotboth" comment but seems Dragon Commander is the better game? (Compared to Saint's Row IV)

If Divinity: Original Sin had the setting / aesthetics of Dragon Commander, it would be a truly amazing game. While I like it a lot already, I'm very apathetic to the setting (and initially hated it), which is quite a huddle for a wordy WRPG.

As Resident Evil 6's resident defender, I can't freely recommend it despite thinking it is a truly great game (in spite some not so great set pieces). It's a little outdated, but here is the Steam release OT I created. You really want to check out the links under "What you should know" if you are not one to enjoy struggling through a game's mechanics.

A totally basic question but I only really got into PC gaming back in April.

The higher the ping, the better the connection?

Lower is better. Your ping is essentially the time it takes for you to send data to the server and for the server to respond; ergo, 25ms is going to be preferable to 250ms.

Sorry (I'm sure it's been asked before), but what's the difference between the standard and Imperial Edition for Divinity: Dragon Commander?

While I don't like USFIV's mechanics. I've had a pretty smooth time recently with outside of getting bumped out of matches. I wouldn't say that it doesn't warrant a purchase if you're really into fighting games. It does have a healthy PC community. The only problem with it from my point of view is that I hate alot of the mechanics of the game.

I feel like people who experience horrible connections are playing people who live on the opposite coast or even in another country. I play against people in Georgia, New York, Florida, and even Canada and don't find too much of a hassle on Endless Matches.

Not likely, but the winter sale is around the corner.

Keep your eye on Banished and Prison Architect as well.

Netcode since the Steamworks port is FUBAR. It still hasn't been fixed to be worthwhile.

It's a decent port if you never will play online, I guess.

Worries me for the upcoming DR2 and RE5 ports.

Almost tempted, but i'll wait for the HD textures mod to be done.

That work is looking so good, saving my Professional run for the completed work.

Bah :( I do own banished (was gifted to me by a friend) and I also have Prison Architect which I really like :)

Then you've done well!

Banished is going to end up fairly high on my GOTY list.

I just saw that both Fallout New Vegas and Fallout 3 (Ultimate & GOTY Editions, respectively) are €4,99 (-75% off) instead of €19,99 on Steam.
I can highly recommend both these games.

Is Fallout 3 playable on W7? I've read about a lot of issues it has. One of the top Steam reviews mentions a patch and adding some lines of code. Is it serviceable? I don't want to buy it if it's a broken mess.

Picked up dishonored, hope I can find time to play through, was really excited about it but never got to it on 360

Also seriously divinity original sin is goty quality. One if the best games I've played in a while, with great combat, storytelling/dialogue, and a fantastic soundtrack.

GAF,

Sell me on Transistor?

Colourful and tastefully drawn environments, amazing music but some people have found the story lacklustre.

The combat itself is amazing if you like any sort of strategy, it's like an SRPG but a little more tuned towards action rpg's. Just experimenting with the possible combinations in it was some of the most fun I've had this year.

Never had issues with it on W7.

RE6 has a lot of problems but it is definitely worth it if you want a TPS that pushes the boundaries mechanically. Sure there are dumb and frustrating parts of the campaign but there is just so much campaign that the good stuff still outweighs the bad. The movement and combat are just so fun to run around and shoot stuff in that it's worth it for that alone, although be warned it will make you like other TPSs less when you try to dodge and slide in them and cannot.
