My wife and I are loving this show, along with Fate/Stay Night UBW this is one of the best shows airing this season.

Your Lie in April-5
.

Excellent summary, I agree with all your main points.

I'm loving so far how this show manages to end every episode on such a strong note. I felt that the scenes on the courage bridge really bookended this episode nicely, and we get a big character scene for Kousei. I'm really appreciating the speed at which we are seeing character development on his part, really great stuff.

Again Watari not being very committed to liking Kaori and telling Kousei to go after her because who knows what could happen. Good stuff.

Does anyone know if they're going for a direct adaptation of the manga or are they loosely taking things from it. I haven't read it but I did want to know.

I've read up to this episode in the manga and it is more or less a direct adaptation. The order of some minor scenes are changed for the sake of fitting the structure of an episode better but otherwise it is a very faithful adaptation.

Episode 5 was really great.
Someone mentioned this earlier but it is beautiful to realize how aware the characters are of their feelings and those around them.
This love square could be really interesting. This whole anemic thing makes me wonder for what's coming down the road though...

Edit: I've read a few people say that the anime specifically handles the whole abuse issue in a far worse fashion when compared to the manga. What's everyone's thoughts on this? It is admittedly kinda uncomfortable when they push him sometimes. It doesn't bother me too much but I guess for others it could.

The show is alright so far. Just has the significant problem of coming after Nodame. It's the same thing, except with better animation, much worse middle school characters, poor comedy and a bunch of unnecessary relationship drama.

Hopefully it'll do its own thing and get interesting eventually, but right now I can't say it does anything great besides look pretty.

Reminds me of the new Yamato, which just made me want to go rewatch LoGH the whole time.

I enjoyed this episode, it would be nice though if they would take a hint and wrap up the Tsubaki subplot but I suppose they need to give her stuff to do even though we know Kousei and Kaori are getting together for sure.

Nothing stops this train

Episode 6 was great.

I can't be the only one feeling for Tsubaki...but eh I want Kaori and Kousei to still get together in the end.

I also see the competition is finally showing up. Next week is gonna be good.

Too many feels moments in this episode:

Especially that last one where he's contemplating what he is playing for, then realizes who he is playing for. My heart.

Yeah that OP OST kicks ass. Wish I could say the same for the show itself, especially since I started teaching my self Piano again several months ago after stopping practice in my early youth. Was rather interested in the premise and the first episode produced some rather likable 4 protagonists. Wasn't even so opposed to the obvious love-triangle (or rectangle).

Unfortunately the cringe-worthy monologuing that overshadows just about every scene, somewhat off character-interaction, usually disrupting physical humor, cheap and predictable melodrama, too little focus on the music and occasional low budget sequences meant I've ended up severely disappointed. Most of that was foreseeable in the first episode already but I was hoping for better :/

Maybe the new opponents will provide some fun competition at least.

Episode 7

Liked it! These new competitors are interesting. Also all that Kaori Arima interaction!

I really love that theme that plays every episode. It's the one playing when Aiza was going up on stage.

I really enjoyed this episode, some great performances by Takeshi and Emi. I'm enjoying that they have fleshed out personalities and are given more of a backstory.
Next week is going to be a huge week with Kousei's performance upcoming, I can feel it.

Have a gif:

Also new OP and ED info for the second cour, the OP will be "Rainbow Symphony" by Koala Mode and the ED will be "Orange" by 7!! Seven Oops.

Really love them talking about the back stories of Takeshi and Emi. Her saying she said she would play to reject him was something I really enjoyed. I have a feeling Kousei won't win but let's see how he does!

Also love how they talk about color so much.

I was dreading this episode a bit, because I was afraid it wouldn't really deliver on the back stories of our new challengers.

I was happily surprised that:

- They were fleshed out quite nicely.
- It was not dragged out.

And, nice piano. A good job of showing how Kousei pushed them to become even better, and I thought it quietly sold how impressed he was with their abilities.

Kaori also seemed to get the idea that emotion through playing doesn't mean going so far outside the lines, which makes me wonder if perhaps she'll rein herself in a bit.

And for as much as the show likes to go all chibi-reaction, I found it interesting that Watari didn't get the expected Maka chop from somebody over his Emi swooning.

The act of wishing/putting two characters together from a series that may or may not actually end up together.

Also see Crack Ship, which is the process of putting two characters together that aren't from the same series or that would make no sense at all.

if you need more info see this AMV it does a decent job of covering shipping :p

Why do I get the feeling that arima is going to get his ass handed to him. But on the brighter side it looks like his female rival might join his harem

Well, just clicked on this thread at random earlier today and saw the gifs in the OP. Really liked how it looked and have now watched everything so far.

I haven't watched a lot of anime, but this sure is one of the best looking ones I've seen. Some of the animation is just amazing.

I'm going bet he is going to smoke them or at least eke out a win in the competition. Especially since he pretty much blew his first performance with Kaori, I feel like if he bombs this contest he would be done with piano. But who know what will happen.

Welcome! I'm glad to hear you like it, this has been my favourite show since Silver Spoon and I'm loving every episode so far. Glad to hear you've gotten into it!

Thanks for making me look up Silver Spoon, I'm now done with S1 and I'm about to start watching S2. Great show.

This show is so god damn good. This and SeHa Girls are the only things I'm really into this season, but they're both great.

Hot damn what a good episode, I was on the edge of my seat. Holy crap at Kousei's mom being that abusive, crazy stuff but now we really see where the trauma comes from.

Predicting next episode he'll somehow pull it together, with help from Kaori likely I'm thinking

I don't watch this show but the OP animation, and Goose House's song, is so damn nice. I need to watch this sometime
in April.

If you can hold off until the season is finished then I say do. Nothing beats a good marathon, especially for a series as great as this.

Kaori is just like his mom in terms of having an illness, but Kaori is nicer to Kousei and supports him in reclaiming his former glory.

But judging by this latest ep he is still traumatized by the loss of his mom and cat.

Kousei's mother was a thundercunt.

Yeah no kidding!

I'm going to make my prediction towards how the rest of the series is going to play out. First Kosei is going to pull himself together (he's probably going to have Kaori come into his mind or something during the performance or whatever) then deliver a good performance people are happy with (who knows if he will win). He'll probably end up confessing to Kaori, who'll reveal she's sick. Second cour is about her illness, she'll probably compete again but like collapse or something. Kosei will be shaken and things but she'll encourage him to keep on playing. He'll screw it up at first (he'll realize he was previously playing for his mom to get well, now he's playing for Kaori to get well) but will come to peace with his mother somehow and end up playing his best performance ever (spirited not technical, he'll break his mold and play more like Kaori) because Kaori will remind him to play music for the sake of music and win the competition, ending the series and leaving it vague what happens after that.

(I haven't read the manga so this is just me guessing)

I guess child services and therapy don't exist in japan like they do in the US. Mama was beatin the breaks off of him and she was doin it in public

Just watched the three most recent episodes in one go. I feel like i said "This kid needs a therapist" ten times during the newest episode. It'll hurt bad if he totally melts down during this performance.

Also, whatever piece of music the female rival played was amazing.

Feel really bad for Kousei. Also feel bad for the mom too. Yeah shes a horrible person but having terminal illness and having your dream out of reach just like that can warp a person.

Tired of these flashbacks though. Needs to move faster.

Whoah the Goose House video of them performing the OP on YT has over 2.3m views. Love the OP a lot.
