Honestly really bad. I had already felt NX was Holiday 2016 or Spring 2017. I felt though we would still get a major game in 2016 like Metroid. I also thought Mario Tennis would be 2016.

Otherwise I'm glad Mario Tennis is coming. I do wonder how Splatoon's Japanese success will have them look at something during next year.

I have also had more than sufficient experience in many areas of life to know that the shrillest critics are not necessarily the most authoritative (and seldom the most objective). Beyond this, the very shrillness of their cries and howls very quickly exhausts their wind.

Look at the age of the guys who lead Nintendo. They are old masters who get their deepest kicks from subtleties in Mario maker. Why should they care about no-talent loudmouths on GAF who fickly spew hyperbolic praise and condemnation in alternating breaths?

This is an epic comment. Holy shit.

LOLWUT?

I'm peeved about today too, but this is going a bit too far don't ya think?

No. Hate to say this but there is no other solution.

Other examples: the release of a Mario tennis without power up. The only power up is that you get giant??
Why lose time to make a tennis while you can do a soccer ..or even another golf game ah also, the 3ds didn't need Mario golf power tour or Kid icarus but the wii u needed them.
We, buyers, have a gamepad which will never use full of its capacities.

I get that it wasn't Nintendo's best, but there is some massive over-reaction going on. They showed 7 new games, 8 known games in the Digital Event. Granted, they may not be what we want, but there's decent content there. It's not like they came with nothing but casual games.

This was especially disappointing because Nintendo seemed to have been on a roll with quality Wii U releases. Now they're giving us uninspired shovelware to fill up their release calendar. I'd take the Nintendo Land fireworks display over this garbage.

I say this as a fervent Nintendo fanboy.

I think they're saving virtual console for nx. If it's like the Apple app store they'll only ever have to port the games to nx once and they're set

True, but is there any work really done to get Virtual Wii games running on Wii U? Since it can run the code natively, I assumed (probably incorrectly) it was just uploading the ISO or whatever format they use. Since, when you play a Wii VC game, it basically boots into Virtual Wii mode. Maybe there's something they have to figure out with the various IOSs the games use. Not sure.

I agree they'd probably prefer to port once and not look back. I just think it'd be a decent way for them to fill in some of the holes in their release schedule.

Given that they will be showing the NX next year, how big are the chances that they'll launch the console in 2016? Didn't they launch most of their hardware one year (or more) after the initial unveil?
I think NX is late 2016. It will be back compatible with Wii U and 3DS to ease the transition.

Obviously nowhere near as good as last year but I felt it had it's merits. Would have been nice if that hadn't blown their top showing right at the beginning without anything to follow up something as big as Star Fox, but eh. 7/10, not perfect but nothing offensive.

Looking forward to Star Fox and the new Mario RPG, probably the only person in the world who thinks the new Metroid has some potential

these Metroid fanboy tears sure are delicious

worst nintendo e3 showing in years

Can't think of a worse one other than 2008. WiiU is over, can't blame them. However, they've now made fools of themselves for the next year, making a convincing introduction of NX harder than necessary. They could have easily shown better footage.

I disagree.

I'm a huge Nintendo admirer, investor, and this is one of the worst events Nintendo have ever produced.

Messaging was all over the place and Reggie just basically confirmed to all Nintendo fans that Nintendo are looking to the future and that Wii U is dead at this point. Way to build-up brand confidence.

That's what ticked me off. Line-up was okay, known, but solid nonetheless.

I digress, I'm going to go eat some chocolate and calm down.

I feel this Digital Event showed how much the NX needs to be a Hybrid system (Console and Handheld). They can't manage both systems without leaving the other hanging to dry.

Last year, it was ALL Wii U and barely any 3DS. This year it was ALL 3DS and barely any Wii U.

Sony can't even balance their two platforms (See: Vita).

The games Nintendo showed might not have been groundbreaking but you know, kudos for them for focusing on the recent future instead of Sony where their megatons where all "you'll play this eventually" and this years actual releases were kinda overlooked.

I know Sony has another event coming all but still, Nintendo's approach is a good one even if the games themselves are nothing mind blowing.

I don't even understand the insane Zelda thirst anyway. Am I the only person really cooling off on that franchise? And especially when they go on about it being a massive world. Anymore, I'd rather have a small world with extra dungeon content.

Microsoft couldn't answer that question either, but it surely didn't help their X1 launch...

They did drop the ball. Not saying otherwise, but the reaction is a bit OTT.

I really think that abandoning the Wii U, which they kinda have to do and have started doing, is going to erode a lot of the remaining good will and faith in the company amongst home console buyers, and the NX could be starting from a pretty precarious position.

I really think Nintendo should consider third party home console games sooner rather than later, it makes less and less sense every day for them to be manufacturing home consoles..

Disappointing event but they do have Directs throughout the year so it could be worse. Would've preferred for them to save some real news for E3 though.

Still, I liked what they showed of Star Fox and the trailer for the new Atlus game (which I guess is no longer called Illusory Revelations?) but it was kind of bland beyond that.

Ok, some of the posts here are getting a bit (understatement lol) out there. This will be my last post here in this thread. Have fun everyone.

WHERE IS WAVE RACE!??!?!!!!!!

Horrible presentation. As a Wii U owner, I am really pissed. Only Star Fox interested me. Already was planning to get Yoshi Yarn and that was shown LAST YEAR!

I'm pretty much done with Nibtendo at this point. Console gaming is dead. I'm ready for this whole game market to just crash. Sick of DLC, hate mobile gaming, online doesn't interst me, developers aren't making games that interest me any more. Burn it all down and hope something better rises from the ashes.

If you dont already own a Wii U, why the hell would you jump in now? They showed nothing.

Especially at the outrageous price theyre asking?

Come October, the shelf presence of the console is going to embarrassing.

At least Sega had the decency to go out with amazing sales, and a final 6 months of games that blew away anything on the Wii U for 2015-2016.

My reaction as a huge Nintendo Fan for the past 18 years.

Star Fox
-Honestly loved it. My big take away was that this is a real Star Fox game and not some gimmicky episodic thing. With Platinum assisting I have no Doubt that it will be the greatest Star Fox since Star Fox 64. Easily the highlight of the conference.
Skylanders Reveal
-Cool, but not into amiibo/Skylanders
Zelda Triforce Heroes
-Kinda neat, looks like a more fleshed out Four Swords. ALBW was great so this could be good too.
Hyrule Warriors 3DS Port
-Have a 3DS, don’t want to buy. Hopefully the Wind Waker characters come to the Wii U version as DLC
Metroid Prime Federation Force
-Almost insulting. Both Metroid Prime and Next Level games are better than this
Fire Emblem Fates
-Awesome footage and a much better name. I’m excited.
Fire Emblem x SMT
-Can’t find the Fire Emblem or the SMT. Can’t tell what this is supposed to be.
Xenoblade X
-Japanese reception worries me, but the trailer was awesome
Animal Crossing Home Decoration
-Don’t care
Animal Crossing Amiibo Party
-Don’t Care
Yoshi’s Wooly World
-Looks cute, but it’s clearly finished and should’ve been released about 2 months ago
Paper x Mario and Luigi
-Cautiously optimistic, not sure what to think yet
Mario Tennis
-Meh
Mario Maker Montage
-Looks better than it originally did, but not that exciting

Overall I think a lot of these reactions are knee-jerkish. This definitely was better than 2008 and 2012, but overall was disappointing. Overall about a 6.5/10 on par with E3 2009 and better than their E3 2011 showing.

Again, this is way too soon. It's mid-gen. That's only 3 years of Wii U, two or so years until the next gen starts--so where does NX fit?

It'll be two years or more behind the next Xbox and PS6 and then Nintendo will be in the same position as they are in now.

Nintendo needs to tough it out, support Wii U, and release a successor when it is time for successors--in 2018 at the soonest.

So today this thread has seen beaten housewifes, Colombine, fire Myamoto, "I'm selling my Wii-U", and worst press conference ever.

If I only read the thread I would've assumed that Nintendo was charging for online, went completely F2P on 3DS or just completely bowed out of the industry.

I agree with the sentiment of this being the "spin-off year".

Most of the games showed were basically "hey we need something fast for this period before we show NX next year so here's a bunch of reappropriated assets while our main teams get shit ready for the next platform."

Paper Jam only exists because they had a bunch of pre-existing Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi assets lying around.

Hyrule Warriors is a port

that Metroid game and Splatball both seem like just retooled Metroid Prime Hunters

here are two Animal Crossing spin-offs.

Here's hoping for a better show next year. Star Fox seems cool. Fire Emblem could be good. Xenoblade, Mario Maker, SMT x FE (maybe...?)

Just finished watching the Direct, oh my, It's the worst Nintendo E3 I've ever watched. The WiiU is officialy dead. And the 3DS too.

Sadly i agree

Both platforms are in their final days, only small/budget titles will be released on them after this year

And yeah star fox looks fun.. But also quite low budget

The fact that there is nothing announced past Spring 2016 on WiiU or 3DS is pretty telling, this is the first time that the WiiU hasnt had games coming far into the future.

They also said NX will be shown off 2016 not E3 2016, which tells me they will do the unveil early 2016 like Xbox one PS4 and then show off more at E3 2016 and launch fall 2016.

And I think it would play console and handheld games

Holiday 2016 is an almost certainty with how poorly their current hardware is selling.

Given what they didn't show today, a 2016 launch is looking more possible.

Crossgen Zelda, Retro's game, new EAD Tokyo game for launch window. Throw in a port of Splatoon (too early for the sequel) and some other stuff and that would be an excellent launch.

Nintendo fans never learn how Nintendo operates. They always abandon their current consoles early and everyone thinks they are working on the next one as justification for them abandoning the current one. Then the next one comes out with no titles and Iwata promises to never let it happen again and apologized for the drought on the new console. It happens every time.

I was literally shaking with anger during that conference. Tears formed in my eyes and my fists were clenched. "Announce something," I shrieked at my computer. My mom knocked on my bedroom door and had to ask if I was ok. Then, they started showing me a bunch of losers playing instruments dressed as Mario and I just turned it off. It was actually unbelievable.

Now, I'm 31 years old and this was, without a doubt, the worst conference I've ever seen in my life. It's clear that Nintendo is not just done with the Wii U but done with the company. There is no recovering from a conference that bad. They'll talk about the NX at next E3, but people will ignore it after remembering Blast Balls.

I loved this company and put my heart and soul into dedicating my gaming life to them. But now, I have nothing. I'm an empty shell.

Tag fishing, eh?

i see a lot of people were blindsided by what happened. here's where your expectations should have been going into this:

-they said no zelda wii u at e3
-they said no nx at e3
-they said no mobile at e3 (or qol for that matter)
-they're not going to reveal stuff in late 2016 or late 2017 like everyone else is (except maybe smt x fe), because that's when nx is coming out.
-they had already made somewhat big announcements in star fox, fire emblem if, and smt x fe in the leadup to this year's e3 showing. the amount of surprises left afterward were bound to be minimal.
-blast ball used the metroid prime hud so it is obviously part of metroid prime somehow (seems everyone got this)

so basically they were going to focus on early 2016 and late 2015, which is everything for this fiscal year or whatever they plan to have before next e3. i'm looking forward to the zelda and paper mario games we knew nothing about going into this, and i'm excited to try star fox later this year. it's actually a nice lineup for 2015 when everything's been moved to next year, but the show itself doesn't instill the same excitement as some of the other conferences like announcing backwards compatibility or shenmue iii.

There's no way in hell the Wii U can last until 2018 with the way it's been selling. There's no 3rd party support and it's painfully obvious that Nintendo cannot support two systems, they don't have the man power to do it.

Well, since you knew what I actually meant and are just using semantics to be flippant, I meant what you know I meant.
Yes, everyone knows what you meant.
In fact, everyone also knows what the 100 people that said it before you meant.

It gets stale after a while.

There is not a snowball's chance in hell of them waiting that long. That would mean at least two more holiday seasons tied to hardware that the market simply doesn't want to buy.

I missed the early morning Direct. What is it I'm watching now in the Treehouse...remake of the 4 player Zelda multiplayer game?

This is true, except the Gamecube had a decent final year, with Nintendo and 3rd party games.

2016 for Wii U will literally have less than 10 games, total.

Which to be fair, was true of N64 in 2001.
