PSN Flash Sale "Survival Deals" coming this weekend (10/16-10/19)

Hey that's my Bday!
*crosses fingers for great deals*

Probably not BB though guys, Sony is trying to sell that DLC and base game combo soon, right?

I hope Until Dawn is in there, I want more people to play that game. It'd be good timing with Halloween coming up.

I could see it being featured. Maybe 20% for Plus members, if I had to guess, but a bigger discount would be great for those waiting to play it.

If it misses this sale it'll for sure drop in price before Halloween.

Don't get your hopes too much, possible candidates for the sale are: don't starve, how to survive etc. Perhaps dying light? but it is already on sale. Bloodborne, resident evil etc. could go on sale but i don't think so. Other than those are there any AAA or even AA titles that could appear there? I would be glad to see some purchasable games there, though.

Edit: Alien isolation, The Evil Within most probably

Thinking its a stretch to consider Bloodborne a survival horror game-dont you try to survive in most games? RE, Alien Isolation even Until Dawn make more sense than Bloodborne.

I don't accept this. You have to come with a very good reason why Bloodborne isn't a survival horror game.

only one example of many, why Bloodborne is indeed a survival horror game.

It's certainly a horror game, as the picture proves. Survival horror? I'm not so sure. It's a rather nebulous genre label but I think non-renewable resources could be considered a key element, which would rule out Bloodborne.

You can easily farm/buy infinite health potions and summon people to help you out and make bosses utterly trivial. It has horror aspects but survival? Nah.

Silent Hill: Book of Memories for vita
Siren & Resident Evil 4,5,6, revalations 1/2 and ps1 classics for ps3
Alien Isolation, REmake HD and Outlast for ps4 crowd

Maybe Costume Quest 1/2
Maybe Bloodborne
Maybe Tomb Raider

Prob no Evil Within since the complete edition is due out very soon.

with a bunch more i'm sure. and some randoms.

These are my predictions.

Hopefully this sale has some decent prices. These flash sales can be pretty hit or miss.

The flash sale quality has plummeted since they started doing them every month. You see a lot of the same titles, for prices that aren't even the cheapest they've ever been.

it's probably gonna be 90% of things I already have (from other sales) with a couple of the "why is nobody buying it"-variety (wander?).

Exactly
Yeah no limited resources-no constantly on the run mechanics-no jump scares-also as I joked beforehand, but Bloodborne is rather easy to exploit and worrying about any 'survival' becomes trivial.

I agree. Eve time I get so excited, but never feel like anything is worth it due to prices elsewhere. They need to make these better to generate more impulse buys.

If you can overcome various nightmarish horrors through sheer might then it's probably not survival horror, at best earning that through sheer difficulty. Granted that probably applies to modern RE too, but I'm willing to discount that as survival horror too.

My whole PS3 collection comes from sales, except Dragon's Dogma and Skyrim, which I bought discounted (and are my only physical games).

I hope we get something nice, although I still have quite a backlog from previous sales...

Bloodborne is not survival or horror imo. Its purpose is not to scare, even though it does have some horrific creatures. It also does not emphasize survival gameplay. Survival gameplay is more than just beating a difficult game.

It's more horror in theme than genre, if that makes sense. Probably for the reasons you said, in that it has a dark atmosphere and nightmarish monsters, characters, and situations, but doesn't often come off as scary. But that does come up every so often.

I feel like it doesn't come off as scary, but there is a definitive and distinct sense of fear when playing Bloodborne.

The intent of the game isn't to scare you, but there is a strong tension as you travel around corners, and there is a very real sense of fear when you are at low health and come up against an enemy who feels insurmountable.

Where Bloodborne shifts from that mindset is that everything is surmountable provided a high enough skill level, but for a large portion of the game you don't have that confidence, but you do have that fear.

I think a strong argument could be made for survival horror, even though it is at its root an action game.
