GOP Primary Debate #3 |CNBC| Burning Bush

We're getting numerous reports of donors saying how bone-headed it was, so I assume so.

Oh shit, if donors are saying it now he's doomed.

Yes. The article that reported on it confirmed it.

Link to this article? It's so damn funny his "ace in the hole" was leaked on social media beforehand.

The hilarious thing to me was that Jeb's initial plan must have been to bring it up himself.

Instead, the moderators brought it up first and Rubio completely shut it down. Jeb completely ignored that and just slinked in with his prepared attack and got predictably destroyed.

I think so too. I certainly wasn't expecting a question directly about that Sun Sentinel article. I was thinking Trump or someone would bring it up.

Man, Rubio's response was moronic though. I'm not sure that'll fly in the general.

Carson flat out lied about his relationship with the fake magic drug company AND promoted their product in his denial. Stunning. And the audience which is not blameless, booed the moderator.

This just goes to show the moderators need to prepare their questions with verifiable citations if questioned on the spot. These moderators could have stumped Trump and arsoned Carson had they done that.

For all of Bush's failings, this one may hurt him the most.

BUSH: Look, the — the deal is already done. The biggest tax increase happened under the watch of Barack Obama, and spending’s gone up. You find a Democrat that’s for cutting taxes — cutting spending ten dollars, I’ll give them a warm kiss.
(LAUGHTER)

I can't for the life of me understand what could compel him to say this. It is weird, defeatist, and bipartisan. Neither the base or the establishment GOP wants to hear anything of the sort. Also, I'm sure the dems would rather him not kiss them.

Rubio further shit the bed with his MSM SuperPac commment. Everything he says comes off completely scripted and hollow. He doesnt come off presidential at all. He would get eaten alive in a real debate

It seems clear the moderators weren't prepared for the candidates to just blatantly lie.

Which on one hand seems reasonable, but on the other hand have they not watched any GOP debates?

The party that touts personal responsibility sure does love blaming everyone else for their issues. "But others did it" isn't a valid excuse at all.

I still can't believe that the woman apologized to Trump. It's good she fixed it after the break but it's crazy that they didn't have a list of where every quote came from.

And wasn't Rubio's not during a time during which he was running? Obama was fucking running for President, and so was Kerry, during the times Rubio mentioned. Literally anyone with half a brain could have called him on that (Hillary will) and he would have fallen flat on his dumb face.

I just thought he was trying to be funny and just came up with a bad joke. He might be a decent politician, but he is not the speaker his brother is.

Yup and they let him get away with it.

BTW Christie kept calling the democrats socialists. Christie socialist disability program in New Jersey. Everyone who receives a paycheck in New Jersey has money taken out for the few who may need income while on a medical or a family disability.

Regardless of the polling, I'd be very, very surprised if one of the 'outsider' candidates like Trump or Carson ended up the nominee. Rubio seems like their best choice, and in the end he'll probably get the nod. All he has to do is shut up and avoid making any serious gaffes, and wait for the 'outsiders' to crash and burn like they always do.

This is assuming the establishment has any control left at all. So far it seems they can't get a grip anywhere. The Koch Bros. are floundering this election.

Rubio had the best night IMHO, he actually came across very well, and wow did he put Jeb! in his place. I'll bet Jeb! didn't expect that kind of composure under scrutiny.

That said though, it wasn't a very good debate this time.

Not really - they just need one, and now there's no need for the establishment to keep backing two or three different horses.

Rubio is their ONLY shot unless the entire party changes tune on immigration reform in lockstep. The eventual GOP nom MUST receive at least 40% of the Latino vote to win. I don't see anyone but Rubio pulling that off without the aforementioned quick-change-act the GOP should have made in 2013.

But yeah, it looks hopeless for them, the establishment is clearly incapable of controlling this round of candidates. But man is it funny

But if Jeb! Had mentioned that his votes were missed when he wasn't on the campaign trail... Would he still have won that exchange?

The Koch Brothers haven't even gotten involved in this race yet. From a few days ago:
Mr. Koch is chief executive of Koch Industries, one of the nation’s largest privately owned companies, and his calls for reduced taxes and regulations have long found a fruitful home among Republican politicians. But so far in this primary race he said he is frustrated by the dearth of discussion about other issues he cares about, from ending subsidies and tax breaks for corporations to overhauling the criminal-justice system and making it easier for low-income Americans to start businesses.

He plans to wait until year-end to determine how much he will spend on 2016 elections, including the White House contest. “How much I give to the political side will depend on to what extent the candidates out there are going to make a difference on the things I care about,” he said.

Mr. Koch and his brother David haven’t endorsed a presidential candidate, and unlike other wealthy donors, Mr. Koch said they aren’t necessarily shopping for a candidate to support.
Asked whether he thinks the rise, and media coverage, of Donald Trump in the GOP field has distracted from serious policy discussions, he said, “Well, yeah. I mean, critical for a free society is tolerance,” an apparent reference to Mr. Trump’s comments about immigrants and women that some have called insensitive.
So far this year, he said just $2,700 of the $48 million he has donated was political spending; his staff said that money went to Republican Sen. Jerry Moran of Kansas, up for re-election next year.

And I'd be loathe to consider them the "Republican establishment" in terms of what we mean by that. They're relative newcomers.

Funny how the candidates complain about media bias...

The media are only biased towards themselves, ratings, and advertising money... the only reason those joke candidates get any air at all is because of that bias.

I mean to claim that CNBC is liberal bias is hilarious in itself. CNBC and all it's host do not hide they fact that they are true trickle down believing Republicans. Fox news is the most watched news channel in the USA, Fox News IS mainstream media.
Newt Gingrinch had a moment like in one of the debate during the 2012 election, Sarah Palin use the MSM attack everywhere in 2008 elections and it drew huge applause. This plays well with the base that's all.

That's cuz their boy Walker fell on his face. Now they're lost. And let's not kid ourselves, the establishment needs Koch.

This debate was just a shitshow on all fronts. Everybody should be embarassed, not just the moderators. The moderators had bullshit, 'gotcha', and plain venomous shit. I mean come the fuck on at asking Huckabee about Trump's moral authority. At least have the balls to ask Trump himself instead of trying to generate in-fighting. The moderators clearly didn't do enough research on their own sources and so when the candidates called them out on it, the moderators looked woefully unprepared. They should have been much better prepared considering this bunch will lie with no fucks given. Not to mention it was clear the moderators got yelled at during the first commercial break so they looked defanged in comparison for the rest of the time. The moderators also did an atrocious job of time management/allocation and making the candidates stay on topic.

The crowd themselves acted like this was a damn wrestling event with the boos. Even if the question is inappropriate, let the candidates state that, instead of the crowd interjecting as such and just completely poisoning the well. There were some good questions that the candidates such as Carson didn't have to seriously answer because the crowd did it for him.

The candidates themselves were especially scummy last night with many of them blaming the liberal media (which CNBC sure as fuck isn't going by the predebate coverage). Most of them blatantly lied and when got called out, shrugged their shoulders and said whatever. The in-fighting was funny but still makes the debate come off as a circus. The candidates even when given simple questions said fuck that and did their own thing. Kasich set the tone last night when he went off the rails in the very first question. Instead of Cruz actually answering the question he was assigned, he instead goes on this rant about the debate.

This was an actual debate with candidates running for the most powerful office in the world. Fucking shameful display on all fronts.

How was Walker their boy when they wouldn't spend a dime on his Presidential campaign OR his SuperPAC? Not even when he was desperate for cash.

Rumor was that they were ready to go in with Walker, but then saw how poorly he did.
I mean let's face it, if they haven't found their guy yet, they're struggling.

All Jeb had to do was to say this:

Jeb Bush does not improvise.

His confrontation with Marco Rubio did not have to end badly for him. When Marco Rubio brushed off criticism of Rubio’s absenteeism from the Senate by invoking John McCain, Bush could have hit back hard. “Seriously Marco? You’re comparing yourself to John McCain? McCain is an American hero, he’s chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, he created the 9/11 commission, he’s written more laws than you’ve read. The problem is not just that you’re away a lot ... the problem is that you don’t do anything even when you’re there. Frankly, you’ve never done anything.” Then—sticking the knife in—“Why Marco, you even failed to pass the immigration amnesty deal you co-wrote with Chuck Schumer.”

"Rumor was" when they've been saying for over six months that they aren't picking a candidate yet and might not.

And there's no reason for them to. Their focus is on the general election. Their so-called "network" is already divided among all of the candidates except Trump (who's self-funding) so it'd be a waste to lean on anyone, especially when most of the major candidates aren't ideal fits for them as noted above.

Rubio could just point out the absurdity of comparing a guy who's been in the Senate for five years to a guy who's been in Congress for 32 years.

I don't know, I see "not finding an ideal fit" as struggling. I mean yeah they don't have to endorse, but that would be bad news for the party.

Yeah Jeb is done
Can't deliver a single zinger, hasn't got enough charisma and his policies aren't good enough to claw himself back
he brings dishonour on his family

So does Jeb drop out soon, or does he push through to the 4th debate hoping for a Hail Mary performance?

I can't see him lasting before the end of the year. At some point it has to become too embarrassing to continue.

Yeah- he'll stick it out at least for the next debate, but his goose is pretty much cooked.

Kinda' sad. He'll never be as big of a factor in any presidential election as he was in 2000.

Yup, can we start calling him: "doofus bush"?

I think we have to. Sad to think that for all those years many of us thought that W. was the dunce in the family...

Ben Carson endorsing the company that he had no involvement with:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQSoHRwtwvI

"I can't say it made me more healthy, but it made me feel different."

This guy.

Edit: It gets worse. "Why is that dog eating grass? He should be eating meat. The dog recognizes that natural, green produce has the things in it that would make him feel better. Now, if a dog can come to that understanding, we with our sophisticated brains should be able to come to that understanding too."

Rubio's also right that Jeb! had a different opinion before they became rivals, like back in April 2013:
"We haven't talked about 2016," Bush says. "But I'm a huge Marco fan and I'm inspired by him and I think he's doing a great job as a senator, and we're friends. That's the level of our relationship. I've always been a fan of him from when he was, like, 26 years old and a city councilman in West Miami. I knew he had a gift."
says Ana Navarro, a GOP strategist who worked on immigration policy for Bush in the statehouse. "The friendship and mutual respect between them is real, and there's just so much overlap in friends, in supporters."
Or 2012, when Jeb! was pushing Romney to pick Rubio as VP.

I would love it if someone in production cut to a video of something like this when a candidate outright lies. I'm talking clips of them saying insane shit, website pages, on-air, feet to fire fact checking.
He'd probably just say that the entire video was a Democrat fabrication, that none of it was real, and the crowd would give him a standing ovation and applaud him for his bravery in fighting the liberal media.

Anyone who isn't a partisan hack would admit this. Very strong performance by Rubio.

Oh, it won't but it was a great red meat response. In the end Jeb's lame attack just made him look even worse to the people who he needs to win over to actually get the nomination.

I'm curious. How was Hilary's voting record in the senate?
