Best redesign of a classic character

I'm talking about the original design for new Dante.

I LOVE this design, too!! Badass.

new Dante's design is actually pretty sweet, they changed it enough from the old emo shit into something that looks pretty badass:

Its only crime is that it replaced an iconic design for the main character of a series who was well-loved.

I agree, I hated the design in the original trailer, if we're being honest, but I quite liked the final design.

Helps that he looks cute too, didn't feel the same about the original Dante

That being said, I wouldn't say he's 'better' than the original design, I like both designs for different reasons

Someone brought up Dead or Alive, so I'm going to chime in with every character looks better in 5 than they did years prior. Well, maybe except Bass, whose arms seem too skinny for his body, but that's always been an issue for him.

Ive still have to play the game, but as a designer im completly amazed everytime I see this image. Is impossible to recreate something better.

I'm not sure what they do in the actual games to create this effect, BJ also feels like he's a ridiculously huge guy compared to everyone. Maybe its the occasional comments about thing like certain clothing might not fit him or other comments early in the game, but it persists the whole way through the game. Its not something I feel when playing as Master Chief, unless they put right next to a human. Maybe the camera is really high up compared to normal, or the fact that he occasionally use brute force to get out of bad situations. Machine Games really did a great job across the board with Wolfenstein.

He changed a lot but his design from the old school games to Ocarina was big, both human and beast forms, and then to a robbed old guy on WW, was my favorite.

While this design is overused to hell, WW Link is special for how expresive he is, thanks to the cel shaded engine and kid like features, he is awesome. and felt more like a character than other designs.

Link from Hyrule Warriors is by far my favorite "realistic " Link, including Zelda U and TP.
expressive but still a bit realistic, stylish attacks, dat scarf, simply a good redesign.

OP could have at least posted classic RE2 Leon instead of the Darkside chronicles Leon which is based of his RE4 design. Such a fail.

It wasn't just the visuals, it was everything about The New Order's representation. The voice actor was absolutely perfect. His writing was impeccable, as a meathead with a heart of gold. They literally could not have done a better job bringing the character into the current generation.

You stole Kennedy from me so hmm.

MGR raiden (which is basically MGS4 raiden) is well above the original, but I'm unsure how much I like his outfit overall.

I always find people liking Raiden's redesign baffling because it's so pandering. People disliked Raiden because he was whiny and too feminine so Kojima just turned him into the Cyborg Ninja, which was already the epitome of the pandering formula of antihero + mysterious + ninja.

It's literally as if the Star Wars movies were released chronologically and people thought Anakin was such a wuss that George Lucas decided to encase him in badass armor to force an opinion change. And then it completely worked.

Why not

Dante from DMC 3 to 4, including the DT, also Vergil from the SE and the common demons too.

Bayonetta got a nice new look from 1 to 2, even if the first game is the more iconic "classic" style.

I basically stopped playing Chrono Cross when I found out this was supposed to be a thing. Such a cool missed opportunity. :(

Chrono Trigger DS
seems to imply that they are actually the same character, as originally intended.

Ryu Hayabusa (Ninja Gaiden Xbox reboot)
I think his sleek signature Black Falcon suit combines "Japanese ninja" with modern day "Black Ops agent" perfectly.
Probably one of the best updates ever - most ninja designs look cheesy as fuck.

Redesign has a lot more personality and detail, as opposed to "generic hot human (who's supposed to be a half-elf) brunette".

Awful. She's wearing plate in the new picture. She's a druid. Bioware keeps on failing.

Mortal Kombat the thread.

The gold standard (Yes, yes, SNK is up there too, calm down) for a fighting series keeping character looks fresh game to game. It's always been more impressive to me how the characters in this series remain iconic without needing to look exactly the same. Even if the details change, you will always be able to recognize the ninja silhouette and main color underneath the new design. And for the most part they get better across the various costumes they got over time, even if you may have your own personal preference as to which one(s) you like best.
