January 2016 NPD (U.S. Hardware) Predictions - Closes February 9th

I wonder if Microsoft is using these bundled SKUs to stuff the channel?

That would only make sense if they were trying to pad their numbers, but since they don't give them out anymore, that does not seem likely. Rather, their hope was probably that people would say "hey, I want game X and a next gen system" would see the Xbox1 bundle and pick it up. With that in mind, more bundles mean more potential "Xs" for customers. But the three biggest Xs last year were COD (which Sony had), Battlefront (Also Sony), and Fallout 4 (which was priced higher than Sony's bundles, making it easier for people just to pick one of those up with Fallout or the Gears of War bundle with it). This strategy could have worked if they had priced it better, or had the better marketing deals.

MS is just trying to pull an Oreo maneuver.

When the Oreo people aren't happy with their shelf presence or need to boost sales in a quarter, what do they do? They add more flavors. Then the store has to make room for the new flavor, right next to the old flavor. Then Oreo has more shelf space and can appeal to more tastes.

A QB bundle would be just like a birthday cake Oreo.

If sony doesnt do a stand along Uncharted 4 bundle i could se them bundling ratchet and clank in ps4 for 349
I see Ratchet and Clank as a really nice bonus on top of a standard bundle rather than a standalone bundle on its own.

Of course, I wish that wasn't the case and Ratchet and Clank was far bigger because it deserves it but I do not think that is the case. Granted, R&C is actually a fairly big seller in terms of LTD IIRC.

.
If the movie is good (I doubt it, but i'm not the target group), a bundle might make sense.
Also, this would be the kids' alternative to uncharted. So why not?

To the busy bees: did someone count the total amount of different bundles for XB1, Ps4 and maybe WiiU for this gen until now? Would be great to know if perception of MS bundlemania is justified.

You know what? The movie completely escaped my mind. Probably repression after seeing that sheep ad lol.

I see what you're saying though. I am just not sure that market is big enough to be going after like that.

When they get the price back to 299 we are in family budget space. And so far there was not much bait for kids. Maybe it's about time to waste some efford here, too.
I am still surprised that there is nothing screaming family in sight. Can't believe that market is nonexistent. (where is buzz?)

The bundle price point is something interesting.

MS is aiming for profit first now they know they lose in sales and I think it is the best move.

Xbone is less powerful in terms of hardware and that put the ideal price point cheaper than PS4 while the cost for production is more expensive.

There is a big issue here... MS needs to sell it console cheaper but they pay more to produce each unit.

How can they have profit in this way? Well the bundles will be expensive... MS didn't have room to work with better deals when aiming for profit.

I think EA already said this.

They said around, so that gave a possibility that it was really lower. Ubisoft are saying that it's over, and Mad Catz said around 60m.

Basically, >=55 million is good number for PS4+XB1 at the end of 2015.

NeoGAF Aggregate Predictions - Jan-2016

1. PS4 - 196K
2. XB1 - 153K
3. 3DS - 72K

Oh fuck, i played all day BloodBorne and Black Ops III, i missed a lot of news... -_-

Anyway the Quantum Break bundle looks sweet... But lol at the PC release. :p

So no one in this thread is actually saying consoles are doomed, but we have dozens of comments saying that people are saying consoles are doomed. Doomception.

Consoles as we know them today are doomed in the next decade or two, though. But then again, on a long enough timeline we all are.
