Hip-hop literally gets zero respect. First My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and now To Pimp a Butterfly. It's downright disgusting and slap in the face to these artists.

Nah, MBDTF was one of Ye's lesser albums. Still good, but he's done much better. TPAB blows it out of the water.

(Paraphrasing) She said that women, when they accomplish something, will always have to deal with someone else stepping up and trying to take credit for their accomplishments or fame

I agree with her general sentiment and if her innocent image wasn't so manufactured I'd buy that card

I know it's just an award and he doesn't need any validation but it still fucking hurts man. TPAB is a triumph. That isn't a knock at Taylor Swift. But shit, man wtf. I don't get it. I honestly do not get this shit.

absolutely needs the validation. rappers need to boycott the grammys, man. i don't care what anyone says, this is one of the biggest awards, if not the biggest, a musician can win. taylor winning a grammy doesn't mean shit, but kendrick winning a grammy for this cd with all that's been going on would have been huge.

he made a work of art and to see another black rapper not get all the credit they deserve is bullshit.

also taylor is a master at playing the media and kanye's line came out at the perfect time. until then, nobody took credit for her fame and while it may be true in other aspects, it's not really evident in music, imo.

If someone can't even win with a critically revered and classic album such as To Pimp a Butterfly, then I don't know what the judging criteria even is. If it's not racism, then the people who vote for these things have poor taste and even worse judgement. Hell I enjoyed 1989, but putting it ahead of TPAB is like putting Transformers ahead of The Dark Knight.

I definitely think MBDTF is Kanye at his best. I think that was his purest most creative album, personally. Especially when taking into consideration his short film that went along with it (which is genuinely a very good watch).

Every year people discover the Grammy's suck. They've always sucked, have always celebrated safe commercial music.

Which he LITERALLY did a few years ago, and then followed it up on Twitter last week.

Kanye is an absolutely awful human being. But a great artist,. But she's right, there's no way to sugar coat that.

TPAB is boring. It's bad jazz coupled with hackneyed bars by a technical genius who quite honestly has poor songwriting instincts. I think Kendrick has limitless talent, but his ear for music has pretty precipitously deteriorated since Section.80.

Is this some kind of neogaf inside joke? Cause I really don't get it. TPAB is a masterpiece, if anything it shows how Kendrick songwriting skills have improved over the years.

You have really good points, but the work on 1989 is quite perfect for a pop album, i'd say is the best one in more than 10 years, and probably her magnum opus. She's perfected her craft a lot too, and people just jump at it like it's bullshit but it really isn't. Any of the 2 winning is good, tbh.

A shame it wasn't Kendrick's time, though...

Even if you thought that way, from a critical perspective, it's literally one of the highest rated albums ever released and was on numerous album of the year lists regularly in the #1 spot. At this point unless the album is the greatest album ever made and Taylor Swift and Adele are taking the year off, it's impossible for a rap album to win.

the fact that nas has won zero grammys, that MBTDF didn't get a nod for album of the year and now kendrick getting snubbed twice should tell you all about grammys

Nah. I've known they sucked. But it just aggravates me every year still. Because it may not be important to us but for the likes of Kendrick and Kanye, it's validation of their music. It shows that there craft is being respected amongst all music.

This is just the beginning of GAF outrage guys.

When Mad Max doesn't win best picture this site will crash.
The movie had no story, bad acting, zero fucking chemistry among the casts. I hope it doesn't win. It's a solid action movie though, it could win best action movie or something.
Just my opinion.

At least the 11 nominations is a step in the right direction?

That's my attempted positive side. I wonder if the salt would have been similar if Alabama Shakes won best album (which I would have been happy with).

This isn't as egregious as Mackelmore beating Kendrick in the rap categories so maybe Kendrick's next album will be the one to seal the deal (although TPAB was fantastic and easily could have been AOTY).

Fearless was such a deserving winner in comparison. But I'm not going to knock her specifically for the decision the award body made.

No joke. 1989 placed well above TPAB in my personal year-end rankings (TPAB didn't even make my top 50). I liked Section.80 quite a bit and GKMC meaningfully less, but TPAB is my least favorite Kendrick album. Boring and bloated.

Kendrick deserves the win, but you know what? When Michael Jackson was overlooked for Off The Wall, he made Thriller.

I can't wait to see what you do next King.

Personally, if AS won I would have been just as happy. 1989 in comparison to the other nominations isn't as good.

If it wouldn't have been Kendrick I would have been all for Alabama Shakes.

I don't think even the greatest rap album ever made would win in that situation tbh. Hell, TPAB probably already is one of the most critically acclaimed albums ever to be released. It's currently number 4 on Metacritic's all time list, and number 1 among Hip hop albums. But it loses to 1989 lol. Clearly Grammy judging criteria is quite different….

Okay well you are wrong IMO about almost everything you said but I won't derail the thread with that. You are entitled to your opinion though. There is no best action movie award just for the record, although there probably should be.

I just want to make sure GAF is ready to withstand the absolute EARTHQUAKE that will come when Mad Max loses everywhere.

Idk about Kendrick but even though kanye complains a lot about it he has said he takes solace in getting his art to his fans and doesn't necessary need validation from the grammy's. I mean the dude already has 21.

Mad Max is gonna lose, that's not even in question. A pure, through-and-through action movie winning best picture? Nah. The Academy would never allow it.

For all the people mad about TPaB losing, good.

Get mad.

Get mad and start writing.

Start spreading how bullshit this is.

Get enraged at how overwhelmingly out-of-touch their voter base is, and demand change.

That's how #OscarsSoWhite started.

So, start #GrammysSoWhite.

When, at the VMAs? That was in defense of another black artist that made huge strides that year that got overshadowed by Taylor. He was right then, too. That Single Ladies video was influential that year and was deserving of that VMA. Nicki deserved the VMA for Anaconda, too.

it's actually kind of annoying.

This is like my favorite post in the thread cause now I'm actually excited at the fact that Kendrick lost.

Somehow go make an even better album and break the space-time continuum Kendrick.
