Lets face it, they are FINALLY going to live up to the fanbase highest wishes and make a remake of Battlefield 2, calling it Battlefield 2 Two.

Do you mean Dino Mode? because that is one of the top requests of the Battlefield community

No i mean anyone who stopped playing BF after #2 due to casual consoles coming in and ruining the gameplay. I mean that.

Hehe don't worry I know what you mean it's just that with so many Easter Eggs and hints I find hard to believe that we really don't have a dino mode

Not really hyped that much because bf4 was the worst title of the series, but if it's ww2 with a promised Vietnam DLC I'm in Day 1.

Chinese people would like to disagree.

For them and many more WW2 started with Japan-China war in 1937.

And what would the relation between the Hindenburg disaster, Zeppelins (all but confirmed now after that tweet of Battlefield's official account) and the Japan-China war be?

that's a story for another day. I was all about WW2 being already started during that time.

Can't say I'm a little disappointed that it probably isn't that attractive sequel to BF2142, but if they go alternative WW1 with weird tech etc. I am all up for it. Heck, go super weird tech and I am really sold:

Just don't make it pure WW1 cause the tanks would kinda suck to play.

If it's Battlefield - Steampunk, I will pre-order the most expensive edition as soon as the trailer's up. That would be amazing, and the meltdowns from the ardent WW2, WW1 and 2142 camps would make it all the sweeter.

Dont get me wrong, i love dinos. And i honestly wouldn't be surprised if they suddenly put this franchise in a fantasy setting. But i never think i will have as fun as i did with BF2 back in the days in a new title, no matter the number behind it.

And the empty servers make it even sweeter, right?

As long as it is a good Battlefield game, and is marketed looking like a good Battlefield game, it will sell and be highly populated. Dice could have a stupidly esoteric premise - say Dinosaurs and Wizards - but if they achieve the former and latter it'll be a hit.

Besides - a Battlefield in a Steampunk setting wouldn't alienate people as long as it had an appropriate tone. People would be all over it, as they were Wolfenstein, Dishonored, Order:1886 (setting and tonally it was loved).

It's going to be WW1 with prototype weapons though.

Let's go to Verdun! Honestly I'm expecting a return to form similar to the early Medal of Honor games in terms of tone. I think that marriage between old and new in a new theater of war not seen by many could be very unique and different. We need to give modern combat a chance to revive itself with fresh new ideas. And for that to happen we need a break, which I'm all for.

Well an historical WW1 battlefield could not work for sure.

I'd really really like a WW2 Battlefield personally, Western europe / Bands of Brothers setting.

If that can't be, a steampunk WW1 game could work if done and marketed well.

But it's a great gamble, and i don't know if Dice wants to be that bold.

Yeah, I can see this one co-existing with BF 4. I'm sure BF 4 will continue to have an active playerbase.

What time is this on in England?

Well this is the company that sanctioned BF: Hardline, which makes no sense, and it bombed (no-one plays it).

Someone at DICE having a brainstorm and thinking, 'let's make a Battlefield game about cops & robbers', even though it was more or less a low-budget stop-gap, is just as far-fetched as the same idea about a steampunk WW1 setting you'd think, 'cept the cops & robbers game was sanctioned.

So I believe it's going to happen.

Cough cough

You mean someone at Visceral.

DICE had nothing to really do with Hardline.

Hardline really didnt bomb. Sure playerbase dropped (some people just hate for the sake of it).
I have still plenty of fun with it. Does a lot of things better. I hate Conquest in BF4, like it in Hardline.

And btw Hardline wasnt done by DICE :)

How popular will this game be if set around ww1?, dont know if the casual gamer is actually tired of modern/futuristic shooter like we are on gaf.

Not true. Hardline has like 5 popular servers on PC in Europe. And it had a pretty good multiplayer.

So you're saying that people would prefer a pure WWl game over a Steampunk WWl game? I gotta drink what you're having.

I'm saying that imo people would prefer a WW2 game over a Steampunk WW1 game. Battlefield is all about the Multiplayer for many people.

if it was still in its launch-state I would totally agree with you, but its current state makes it one of the best ones (if not THE best one) in the series.

Still by far the worst. The balancing alone ruins it. They threw in so many different weapons, vehicles and gadgets and aren't able to balance them proper.

Yeah I know, when I said 'company', I meant EA.

If DICE want to make a Steampunk WW1 game you'd imagine they would have to have a consultation with their bosses.

So how many hours left? Its already 6th evening.

8 hours, 41 minutes from this post.

edit: too slow

I think there's a very good case that not only is Hardline not a good Battlefield game, but the marketing and how it was portrayed were truly terrible. If you recall, the game was delayed about 5 months after a lacklustre reception. It had little hype to begin with - the delay brutalised it.
