Kinda wish it was a true to history WW1. What's to stop this from basically being another futuristic shooter? I bet they have stream powered jet packs.

If it's alternate history, there'd likely be some evidence in the promotional material. That's how you'd let consumers know. It doesn't 100% mean it's not some craziness, but the marketing material leans this towards being authentic.

This has been going on for so long. You can be upset but don't act surprised.

I'm more surprised they took something of cultural and historical importance and locked it behind a pre-order, does that not strike anyone as rather... Insensitive? Like it wasn't worth everyone knowing?

Ugh. The thought of the overly juingostic, bombastic war porn of Battlefield in such a tragic setting as the First World War makes my stomach turn.

I'm not against the idea of a WW1 game, one that accurately showed the horror, misery and utter tragic waste of life that the conflict was, that's fine. Valiant Hearts was excellent for example, but one of the dudebro marketed action focused BattleCODS?

Ugh.

I don't see what makes WWI so much more sensitive than WWII or Vietnam.
I don't remember any BF campaign being noticeably jingoistic either.

Isn't the grenade(?) he's holding anachronistic?

Maybe you will be a time traveler (of the year 2199).
And you have to fix some things which happened in the past (of cource with laser weapons and so on).

Just kidding. I hope they will not to something like that, WWI sounds really interesting.

It's interesting how CoD took their series further in the future than any previous entry, while Battlefield is taking their series further in the past than any previous entry. Modern setting am cry

From Wiki:

"The regiment was nicknamed the Harlem Hellfighters, the Black Rattlers and the Men of Bronze, which was given to the regiment by the French.[3] The nickname "Hell Fighters" was given to them by the Germans due to their toughness and that they never lost a man through capture, lost a trench or a foot of ground to the enemy.[4] The "Harlem Hellfighters" were the first all black regiment that helped change the American public's opinion on African American soldiers and helped pave the way for future African American soldiers."

Awesome! They don't teach you this stuff in school.

I mean, fair enough, but at least wait and see exactly what they're doing before judging.

I know WW1 was probably the worst for it, but all wars are fucking miserable.. And we've done the second world war, so why not the first? They're comparable at the very least.

Makes sense Peyer Moore didn't want campaigns it seemed.

In a way I'm surprised there is one given his prior interview last year

What war could they choose that isn't tragic? Literally every historical conflict is tragic in some manner.

Why is that? I have to prepare order to see the story?

If you want to see a story of cultural significance, open a book or go to Wikipedia. Trying to make a preorder bonus seem culturally insensitive because it's locked behind a preorder is just ridiculous.

Why do people not understand that this totally isn't DICE's M.O.?
Stop getting your hopes up, geez.

That's not exactly true, is it?
The past couple of Battlefield games have had fairly length campaigns in which they tried to elicit emotion from the player. It wasn't a mindless cascade of enemies, it was a story about soldiers and their unit. You can't really say that storytelling isn't DICE's M.O. when they've shown in the past that they're very interested in it. If you were to say that storytelling isn't DICE's strong suit, then I'd 100% agree.

With that being said, I'm not in Battlefield for the story. I appreciate that it's there, and I wish they were better, but we all know that multiplayer is where the magic happens. It's what keeps us around.
