Mortal Kombat XL PC Enhanced Online Beta ...free weekend happening right now

I'll download this and try it out when I get home. I wonder if KP3 will ever get confirmed in the near future. I hope KP2 or XL upgrade will get severely discounted if that is the case.

I didn't think that they would actually fix/update the game. I guess I can now revise my stance on Injustice 2 from 'absolutely not' to 'we'll see.'

So are we still paying for this when it comes out? If we are, this is the only time I'll get to play MKXL. (I own MKX.)

I think I'm just gonna wait for the final release. I just suffered through over 30gb from installing the base game last night on my slow-ass connection.

I can't wait, though. I really need a new fighting game to play with while I cope with not owning a PS4 for KoFXIV yet. I'll take the time to get familiar with this game offline.
I wonder if it's true that KOF is also making it to PC. PC is getting so much better as a platform for fighters, since it gets console exclusives like SFV and KI (those two with cross platform online play). Plus free online, and being able to use any controller :p

Like on consoles, MKXL update will be free.
Kombat pack 2 will probably cost you, but I wouldn't be surprised if they showed a gesture of good will and gave that to free for existing owners or at least some kind of first week discount.

I doubt Sony would use that PS4 console exclusive game tag on the KOF BoxArt unless there is a strong chance it is coming to PC

Apparently this app first showed up 4 months ago?
I'm not in marketing, but maybe should have mentioned this earlier?

I mean it's out, and it's still technically not announced, Boon hasn't even said anything about it.

If it hasn't been said already, WB announced it on the WBPlay mailing list about an hour ago, around the time you posted.

I have to say I'm amused by all the empty depot packs in the app.

Can't wait for the Moose Pack. Bacon Pack might be good too.

online felt pretty good.
Performance seems great. variable vsync has a few issues. I changed it to fixed and it was fine.
I never played the original pc version so I can't say its better or worse.

My biggest issue is the 30fps menus/intro/fatalities.

Play some KI!

Those have always been 30 which is disappointing.

They did add descriptions of what all the PC graphics settings mean, which is nice.

He repeatedly has used the term GGPO to refer to/tease improving their netcode.
https://twitter.com/noobde/status/759205609166270466
Just look at he poll he has on the top of his Twitter
The option is "MKXL with GGPO for PC". It not the first time he's thrown it around as if they're using it. It may be a nitpick but he's certainly doing it.
Yeah, but is not frequent and usually to get to the point, since people tend to know GGPO more than rollback. Heck, even in online forums people ask for GGPO or "whatever KI has". :p

Just grabbed a copy of MK X Premium Edition off CDkeys.com for $7.51 after 5% discount. Just in case anyone is interested as who knows if anything will be offered to existing owners.

I'd been meaning of to snag a copy, and this got me off the fence real quick.

I guess that depends on how many tweets you'd consider frequent, but it's every time he tweets about it. Whatever, the point still stands. He's using someone else's middleware brand name to tease/hype/advertise their own version of it. No other company with their own rollback code (Capcom, Iron Galaxy) does that. Capcom only referred to their use of rollback netcode as "GGPO" when they specifically licensed it it for use. Referring to a specific piece of middleware as being in your game to the point where everyone thinks that's what's used is careless at best. He should know better being in game development, but whatever, most people don't care. Not worth beating the point into the ground.

It's safe to assume this doesn't include the SP for this temp free, right?

Everything but strict Online Versus is disabled as far as I can tell.

It matches fast and runs smooth though. Usual 30 FPS Xrays and such; even with some funky variable FPS in the match intro cutscenes it feels responsive.

It still takes a lot longer then it should to initially boot the game up though - my only real gripe/nitpick.

I wasn't expecting an open beta this soon. KP3 must be around the corner.

I'll save myself the 30gb download and wait for the full release.

Getting 60FPS smooth online matches and the install was pretty quick with no issues in the few matches i played. I mean this is only a beta but it seems to run well for me.

Game is also lighter on CPU and GPU usage compared to the X build. Netplay is very good with 3/4 bars. I'll delete the beta and wait for the final patch.

I get 60fps in the benchmark but online play I get 30fps.

I think the character select screen and x-rays/fatality are still locked to 30fps too.

The actual online play seemed solid though. Netcode seems absolutely okay.

But you're the one beating it to the ground. :p

Is not accurate, yeah. But nothing to get overly pissed off at. Even the post on Steam refers to it at rollback.

Technicalities aside, the main thing is that the online is finally better on PC...and the overall package seems to follow on the improvements left aside nearly a year ago. All good news so far.

Soooooo.... what are the chances for cross play with at least one other console? I'd imagine once its officially released, the servers will be fairly barren.

The online play itself seems fine but the benchmark auto-settings cause the game to drop to 30 fps a lot. Gonna fiddle until it's a consistent 60.

Pretty low.
This seems like a kind of drop it, make it work, get people to shut up kinda port.
Do the least amount of work possible.

Maybe higher chance with Injustice 2.

How is performance? Yet to download and mess around with the settings but I'm excited they brought this over. Hopefully in proper form this go around!

MK X ran like rubbish on my old PC. Built a new one with gtx1080 and now the game crashes every time i run it. I hope this enhanced version is given free to previous owners..

I'm still on the fence. Don't really know if Warner would give any bonus to PC players judging by how Warner have treated them in the past.

Ok, out of 4 matches i tried 2 were interrupted. Idk. for what reason. It was happening in original game too.
Also it takes so long to find the match, more than 2 minutes. First it says "Your Region", then "Nearby Region" then "Worldwide" and nothing happens for more than 2 minutes.

Uninstalled and done with this.

I got my fight stick to work.

The netcode was nice, and I noticed no issues at all in the matches that I poorly played. [Activate training geesh]

Seems to run great. Just served as a reminder that I hate online play in fighting games though. Jumped into my first match and I'm getting combo'd forever so I rage quit. Money saved!

They keep making fighting games more and more complicated with more and more bullshit systems. I like MK2 and SF2.

Have you played MKX at all before? If not, that's exactly what you should expect to happen jumping into an online only beta of a 1.5 year old game with no time to learn the characters.

Full game has training and a good amount of local modes too, to play around and get to know a character of your choice.

I suck online against randoms, but a bit better with people I know and in local matches.

Is why my friends always demand Test Your Luck. Since the variables "even things" for them. XD

QLOC are a great choice
They did got the PC game last year after release and put some bandaids on it. Seems they were chosen again for the XL too and worked on it from scratch, since this seems to be a new port rather than X with patches.

based Qloc u can keep porting wb future games lmao

downloading slowly on my turtle net :|

at least i can dust off my fightstick

I don't like the changing framerate.. I really don't see why it couldn't just be 60 all the time, even in the menus and for the xrays..

That said, I was able to play a match online without a problem. (the only problem was me never having played mk x before and sucking at it)
