I said they won't release the PC version as the same time as consoles because it was obv. Rockstar don't care and 2K wan't doubledippers.

As for the guy who mentioned piracy...GTA5 was cracked in like a week and it still sold 5.5mil on steam alone. They don't give a fuck.

We're talking about a game where cowboys have bullet time yet somehow having a main character that's a woman would be too unrealistic and asking why people care. Welp:

Get me that bingo.

would the god father, and Goodfellas be the same it was played by woman? i don't view woman as gangster, it just doesn't fit them and that's just my opinion, 90% of homicides are committed by men, sure there exceptions but generally woman are much nicer and not as any where as violent as men. has there ever been a great movie with female gangsters in the leading role.

they are writing a fictional story.
You know what's a "rare thing"? Mexico being a horseback ride away from mountains covered in snow.

Also, injecting a female character only means 'women can be integral parts of interesting stories'. ]

But you don't know that a woman isn't an integral part of Red Dead Redemption 2's story, even if not a protagonist.

And you're highlighting a fictionalization made for the sake of gameplay. A female protagonist wouldn't (presumably) impact the gameplay. But story-wise it is, I think, something that would need to be addressed, else it would be to the detriment of the story, and addressing that might not be part of the story Rockstar want to tell.

I think Rockstar will do right by people with diversity. RDR iirc handled female characters better GTA5 did. Black Cowboys most likely will be there since the stats were they made up almost a 3rd of cowboy (somebody can check I might be off). IF it's still close to Mexico then that's a easy one. The native American aspect is the one i'm interested in seeing where it goes.

I still don't think the main character is even in that poster of the 7 anyway.

is it possible this is just a working title and the real title will be revealed when the trailer comes out?

If we're running with the idea that it's Dutch's gang, I'm willing to bet 2 or 3 of those guys will be the playable protagonists, but Marston WON'T be one of them, and instead will hover over the narrative as a sort of tragic figure trying to steer the gang from Dutch and Bill Williamson's (and his own) more reckless and violent tendencies, ultimately causing a rift.
That would be interesting but I really hope it focuses on the perspective one character. I never found myself being immersed in the GTA5 story because of the multiple playable characters.

It's a sad indictment on publisher perception of gamer's brand recognition.........just like Rocksteady cramming "Arkham" into every title for increasingly contrived reasons.

A friend of mine actually met him on a pub crawl in New Orleans, but didn't know where he recognized him from. Olyphant took great, great pleasure in stringing him along all night while my friend agonized over it, even shushing people who tried to tell him who he was. He finally figured it out at the very end of the night.
Isn't RDR2 rumored to take place in New Orleans?

Maaaaaaaaan I hope it's not just The Further Adventures of Young John Marston. It's most paint-by-numbers, boring direction they could have gone, especially considering how vastly and creatively different all the GTA games have been.

I guess if it's some form of continuation of Dutch's Gang, it kinda makes sense to go with Redemption 2. That way, when they use Renegade/Rebellion/Revenge/whatever, we'll know it's a whole new story.

lmao, amazing how they still ignore the PC crowd. Yes, gta 5 sales on pc are not 30 millin, but they are very decent for a port that was releaed a year later, i believe almost 4 or 5 million copies.

i just find it laghable how they keep ignoring the PC crowd when they know their games will sell. but whatever, dont expect any less.

I'm so happy that it is not coming to PC!!! Now I finally have a great reason to buy a PS4! :D

/s this is the kind of logic that's actually widely present around here

I've planned to get a used PS4 when the Pro launches anyway. So that's just another reason to get one :D

That's an interesting idea, I'd prefer Marston to be non-playable if they were going with a prequel.

Well at least we should have a PS4Pro version out of the gate. Will be interesting to see what happens with Scorpio, is it just a patch to play it on that system... A whole new low user base for Scorpio, I can't see R* releasing it on that system out of ten gate..

Is Scorpio able to play Xone games? WI'll it easy upscaled for Scorpio?

I have been in love with the Red Dead series since the very first game. There was no telling how hyped I got when I saw this threat. A good chunk got deflated when I saw the multiple protagonist angle. I continually hate every one of my favorite game series going for that angle time and time again. Hopefully RDR3 will be able to do something different, since I felt underwhelmed with the mechanic in GTA V.

People get childish over women and people of color as leads and Star Wars is doing just fine. And a Rockstar game is essentially on that level in terms of reach and influence (GTA V made a billion in three days).

Life Is Strange, The Last of Us, Tomb Raider were huge successes. Horizon looks like it's probably follow suit

Basically Red Dead would be a huge success regardless of who is the protagonist, so having a woman as the protagonist isn't some crazy risk

Star Wars appeals to a wider demographic.

LiS/TLoU/TR and Horizon don't have the budgets R* spends. You can't ignore that. Unless you are behind the funding for these games you have little influence to what those putting in these ludicrous amounts of money pressurize over. All they give a shit about is profit, not diversifying the games industry.

My argument isn't RDR wouldn't be successful with a female lead, it's that it wouldn't be AS successful. I've already said why, young males like it or not get very childish over having to play as females.

No game, and none of the examples you gave me has cost as much and sold as much as GTA5. R* are not going to risk that tradition as long as they keep funding insanely inflated titles. If they were to take on a side project, even open world, on a lower budget then you might see what many are asking for.

This is no flag of support from me, it's an unfortunate but incredibly realistic view as to why these things happen. Unlike other posters I don't just scream about "realism", as that has nothing to do with it. It's all about money, sales and marketing to target demographics. R* being in the top 1% of all of that as no one else funds games to the budgets they do.

Can't we all agree that we don't know anything about the characters yet.

So the people saying "A female outlaw leading a gang would really be against source material, do they not care about history?" or "Why can't Rockstar add a female outlaw, are they sexist?" We also can't really make assumptions about the main characters yet. If you look at the original press releases for GTA:San Andreas or RDR, there's no mention of any strong female characters, yet both of those games have the strongest female characters of any big time games (Kendl Johnson and Bonnie McFarland)

He sure does. And if this is a prequel, it might suggest that the 7 people in this photo are not allies or members of the same gang. In RDR, Marston had only known of Rickets through his legend, had never had any real interaction with him prior to the events of RDR IIRC.

Yeah, this is what I'm saying. All we have is a poster of seven guys who may or may not be Dutch's gang. They could be really be anyone though, and maybe not even the playable characters. We'll hopefully find out more on Thursday. Then again, no one knew who you played as after GTAV's first trailer.

We are really complaining about the lack of women on the main cast of a WESTERN game?
Except for that movie with Sharon Stone I can't remember other story about that time that had a woman as protagonist

There was that Bad Girls movie. Never saw it, but I remember the poster.

If Scorpio turns out to be as big a leap as expected, the thought of a Rockstar game on it makes me moist. Here's hoping RDR2 takes advantage of it.

Well, that's cool. I wish they picked a better name, though.

Also, not really interested in the multiplayer component, but we shall see if that affects the single-player experience.

You can't be this dumb. This can't be real.

"I don't like women so women can't do thing and be in game, WAAAAH."

It feels like we've traveled back to 1990's gaming with some of these posts.

Umm what's going on in here?

Why exactly would this game not come to PC?

Aren't we out of that age of third parties kind of missing PC's when they are just ported over from consoles?

Obviously this will probably be on consoles first since they are the lead platforms but I don't think wanting the game for PC's is port begging? It's in some ways almost guaranteed.

Probably going to do what they did for GTAV and release it on consoles first, and then PC. With GTAV it made some sense as they released the PC version and the 'next gen' remasters around the same time so make use of higher res assets in both.

This time around the timing doesn't make as much sense, but it's not surprising. I think Rockstar has released almost every major game on consoles first, then PC. At least, GTAIII, VC, SA, IV, V followed this. RDR, famously, never got a PC release due to technical issues, and IIRC Max Payne was simultaneous, but Max Payne was a big PC franchise originally.

They know people will double dip or even triple. It's ballsy as hell that they just assume you will but hey.

Jeez the port begging is strong in here...

The game will come to PC a few months later.

RDR's no-show on PC has been a point of contention among PC gamers for a very long time, so discussion about whether or not the next game will come to PC is inevitable.

The bolded isn't a dead cert.
