I could change it fairly easily :)

anyone know what the RRP of the town hall is in Australia?

I don't know how RRPs relate to online LEGO shop prices but on the AU shop the Pet Shop goes for 269.99 and the Town Hall 249.99. Although Town Hall is not available in the Australian portion of the shop, maybe because of being such a recent set.

Took about 4 hours. I don't think that is good considering it's 609 pieces. I hope I can do better on my next set which is an Excavator 8043 that has about 1123 pieces.

Not good? I try to drag it out as long as possible!

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy putting it together and the pride at finishing it. I just don't relish the thoughts of more backaches and sharp finger pains. I am also paranoid that I lost some pieces as I put them together.

Last night I took a break from sorting my collection to build the Space Police ship. Tonight I ended a sorting session by making this lil guy:

And yay! My Imperial Shuttle shipped. Estimated arrival: Wednesday. It better arrive early. If it gets here early enough, I will make a time lapse video of the build. Otherwise the next day I have off is Sunday, and I dont think I can wait that long to build that bad boy.

The instructions say to keep the bag contents separate, you better be a man and dump everything into one or two tubs.

I am not dumping it all together. I stopped doing that when I was 10 or so once I realized how organized the bags actually were. And my brain wont let me. The OCD is too strong.

One thing I will NOT do is organize and sort the pieces when it arrives. I will only make a pile per bag, but I wont sort it after that. That would be cheating.

I am excited to try and make a time lapse video though. I think that will be fun. Right now I am trying to figure out how to properly light my apartment to see it all.

This whole LEGO push on here has been great, as I didn't really have them as a kid. It's pretty awesome to be able to get into it now and let my son experience it too. He already looks forward to building 'wegos' with his dad. :)

Also, I did a google image search for 'Lego MOC'. Mind blowing.

I have 2-3 tubs of LEGO somewhere in my old room at my parents house.

I should really go grab it all one day....

I did that back in September and have been slowly but surely sorting it all out. I have ten of the Sortmaster containers now and know I need at least one more before I can have a small amount of room to add more bricks.

I need to call my mother and see if there is one more box somewhere, because I am missing a LOT of stuff.

Oh man - I hadn't searched the Lego S@H for a while. Nice find! I'm going to keep that on my radar after the GE is in my hands.

I'm hoping that price stays the same when it's actually released, but I have a feeling it's a mistake and they'll change it before it's available :(

I had no idea the Imperial Shuttle was a sale at Amazon, I thought it was the normal price. I'm kicking myself now for not buying it...

Back from picking up the rest of the sets I ordered. I present to you, my Jan/Feb haul:

I'm still pondering whether I'm going to keep the PotC sets or flip them for a quick profit. Some of them have been built and torn back down again though.

9395 towing 9392. Was a good build for £50, the diffs and steering assemblies are so much neater nowadays. Now, onto the next one...

sometimes the bags are organised and it just makes sense to keep them like that - eg on the modular buildings, each bag number is a floor of the building. There are still 8-10 bags with each number, so not like its a piece of cake.

Strangely with the GE, there are lots of 'pairs' of bags. So one piece will only have half the number in one bag, with the rest in another. No idea why they did that.

Wow ghostmind, that's an insane haul!

Thanks - everything was acquired through some sort of deal/special. The Star Wars sets and the LEGO Direct items are what I am collecting/building. I got that podracing set at a large discount, but I'm not sure if I'm keeping it, as I wasn't really planning on getting prequel sets. The Winter Village & Christmas sets will wait until next December, when my son and I can build them to decorate the house. And, as I mentioned, I don't think I'll be keeping the Pirates sets, as my Imperial Flagship kind of fills that boat-building niche for me.

Now the question is, what do I build first?

I love all those xmas sets, same with the medieval market (which I own) and the others in that castle series, so many other sets calling me though

Maturity, bitches.
We should have a mosaic building contest! Keep it at 48x48 studs or something though, make it more of a level playing field. That Megaman one is awesome though!

I'd be up for it. Would be a good first contest as we haven't actually got one of the ground yet. Probably should pick a theme though and maybe stay away from replicating videogame sprites since they're pretty easy to do.

I don't get it either...
but he seems to be selling plenty though...

Eurobricks had a discussion on it at one time...Apparently some of the sets are recreated MOC's and are essentially infringing on the original creator's IP. It's pretty shitty.

E: I just found a potential deal for an open box Grand Emporium for $120 and an open box Millennium Falcon for $115. *crosses fingers*

It irks me that these LEGO sets just disappear forever. I wish I was into LEGOs when the UCS Star Destroyer was available and now my only option is to pay 4x the MSRP!

Something I don't quite understand:

Buying digital instructions

E: As cool as those sets are, I wouldn't be able to get myself up to buying digital instructions. Especially considering the cost to obtain all the pieces included, haha.

Um, is it legal to sell custom made instructions for MOC Lego sets online like that? I would have thought that Lego would frown on it...

You have one more choice: find the instructions online, get the parts list, and buy the bricks on your own to build it. I'm betting it would be quite a bit cheaper than paying 4X MSRP for it.

Completed my Classic LEGO town Fire Station (6382) this weekend. Missing a few pieces including the base plate otherwise it's complete. Next up is the Police station followed by the Cargo centre.

Wow, I actually have that set, got it new when I was just a kid. Man did my brother and I play the hell out of that set!

Lego just renewed the Star Wars license for another 10 years. I think it would be a waste if they never re-released some of the notable sets again, even if they're slightly different to keep all the collectors from crying.

Never having something like the UCS quality Millennium Falcon again at retail just because they did it once while having the star wars license is insane.

hmmm where can I find separate bricks? I'm a LEGO nub.

Or I could just forget about it and look forward to the upcoming UCS R2-D2 (and B-Wing)!

I think that is where I'm at (forgetting about it and looking ahead). With LEGO having the license for another 10 years, I wouldn't be surprised if they give the main ships another UCS version.

They likely make alot more money off the non UCS sets. UCS are expensive and usually not stocked much at retailers, production runs are likely much smaller as well. They don't rerelease their UCS stuff usually, and if anything we will just see more revised cheaper sets if anything while UCS series continually comes out with new models.

It would be crazy cool if LEGO released the old sets with the old boxes and everything. Get that aftermarket pricing down. Sure it will never happen. Wouldn't be surprised if they slapped that banner on top with a picture of someone. Maybe like General Grievous just for all those haters of the prequels. :p

From my understanding, there's nothing illegal about it. You can download and print instructions for any official set on the Lego webpage. So as long as the instructions are for an MOC, it's OK.

Huh, interesting. This weekend I downloaded MLcad and went through the tutorial, in which you make instructions for and build a small truck. I was very impressed with the software. I also discovered the world of Bricklink and Brickstore. It has me excited. I've always dreamed of making my own Lego sets or being a Lego designer (a pipe dream to be sure). I'm already planning on making a custom set of my brother's house, complete with instructions, and giving it to him for his birthday. I've got a friend who wants to pay me to build him a copy of my Space Battleship Yamato for his home. It's been together for over 22 years now, I have no idea how many bricks are in it. I really would like to put my Yamato into MLcad, make a set of instructions, get a parts list and price for the thing, and then even play around with improving it with new pieces that I've never owned and such.

But, being able to design custom kits, order the necessary bricks, and even make the instructions, it's like a whole new world just opened up to me this weekend. And now I find out that I could possibly make money by selling said parts lists and instructions?

I...had no idea.

Hello new hobby. I think I love you!

Yup! LDD and the other digital Lego designers are really fun to play with. My ONLY problem with them is that the virtual building and designing lacks that tactile joy that Lego brings. But it definitely is easier to work with for budget and unsorted collection reasons!

And regarding designing/reselling:

Brickarms - these guys do custom weapons/accessories for minifigs. There's nothing wrong with this, either. They've been around for quite some time.

Brickmania - another site similar to Brickarms, these guys design and sell their own sets. The thing is, they're all VERY expensive. Think about it...Not only do you try and make up the design time in the cost, but you have to get people to pay for the pieces that you either parted out or bought from Bricklink (which can get expensive for tougher to find pieces). Add in a little bit of profit...

Take a look at this: Pagoda. It's a cool set, but at just over 1500 pieces and costing nearly the same as the SSD...I say "Yikes". But it CAN be done!

Enjoy the new hobby! :)

You can buy them direct from lego via the "pick a brick" online service or nip into a Lego store and look for the pieces you need. You can also try places like Bricklink to buy and sell Lego pieces.

@Dodgersan you just gave me a massive nostalgia flashback - early space sets were so good

Thanks, I wasn't aware of custom non-Lego bricks being out there either. Cool sites.

I installed the LDD too but I don't see a way to make instructions from it, nor generate a parts list either. MLcad seems very superior to me from a designing standpoint so far.

And I absolutely agree that it is both better and more fun to build things by hand. But the majority of my Lego is over 20 years old, so I don't have any of the newer parts or crazy colors that are out there today. That will change though as I buy new bricks and sets and get back into the Lego hobby. I see myself using Bricklink a whole lot relatively soon.

I don't really want to get into the business of being a brick broker on custom kits. Selling cheap instructions for custom sets I design though, I could see that being both fun and engaging as a hobby.
