LA Times: Epic Mickey 2 sold only 270k copies in US? (not accurate)

Did this game at least have more Disney musical type songs? I remember Spector talking about how musical numbers were going to be heavily featured. I quite liked the one in the trailer.

All that hype

All those bannings

And in the end everyone just embraced Kingdom Hearts instead and left this series flapping in the breeze

It's hard to believe now that Spector made Deus Ex, feels like several lifetimes ago. I guess this series is his Chinese Democracy.

Every time I see the words "Epic Mickey" all I think of is wasted potential.

That concept art was too good to be true.

all it makes me think is how far Warren Spector has fallen

i would never have believed he could make such trash as Epic Mickey 1 and 2. Honestly, considering how much worse 2 was than even the first game, I think Junction Point deserved the hard lesson. Fucking focus on polish and your gameplay.

Gamasutra.
Given what I've seen, 270K is completely believable. If it is above 270K, then it isn't much higher than 270K.

It’s unclear whether Spector and his Texas-based Junction Point Studios will continue working with Disney. Pleasants declined to discuss the topic and Spector could not be reached for comment.
They're owned by Disney, so....

He always seemed like an odd fit for a character-based platformer, but the worst thing about it is even ignoring that, the first game doesn't even feel like something that he'd have a hand in. I'd almost accuse Disney of using the man's name solely as a bullet point if he wasn't so vocal about how hands-on he's been with the series.

It's a shame, but I don't think Epic Mickey would of ever sold well either if the original was a success. I just think its the type of game you want to experience once and I think people were more interested in if that scruge the duck one was made or something like that?

I wonder what the % of that number is on each console, considering its multiplatform on pretty much everything.

Warren Spector probably thinks Epic Mickey 2 is his best game.

It's okay, it probably is.

I considered picking it up since I have the first one, but the multiplayer stuff and the lack of IR for the Wii U version turned me off. Looks like I didn't miss anything, either.

the thing I'm wondering, 2 was released on Nov 18 but 1 was on Nov 30. maybe 270k is for Dec and not including Nov sales?

The things that were said about the first one mixed with the awful demo they put out for EM2 is why I never supported the franchise. Guess I'm not alone.

John Harker

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.
I'm not picking fights, I'm just responding to the "source." He either made it up completely, or saw only one SKU and rounded down. But even that rounding doesn't make a lot of sense, since it's a decent chunk.

And i'm outtie!

Never played either, although I've heard a little bit of talk about both. To echo something mentioned earlier,I wouldn't be terribly surprised if a lot that was wrong with these games was due to hamstringing because of too much corporate meddling.it's a shame and I feel for the teams involved, that's a particular kind of misery right there

If only the first one held true to the original art that was leaked. Jesus christ, that would have been amazing.

Man even if the games had the original art style they'd be garbage in their current state. The game's problems go so far beyond art it's still incomprehensible to me... I mean, Warren Spector! Spector, why?

I just don't understand how badly he could keep fucking it up like this. I understand these are big teams he's working with and he had to outsource elements and shit, but how hard is it to understand your game is barely enjoyable in any sense? Almost every element of the game misfires in some way, from the art style to the "choices" you can make. It's like nothing was playtested or even conference room tested between programmers and game designers. It's a big sloppy mishmash or disjointed ideas not one of which ever flourishes into something that'd be worth experiencing, even on their own.

I just don't understand it. How can someone be so completely in tune with what makes great games in something like Deus Ex, and then just fall asleep at the wheel in every regard when he makes this? Epic Mickey truly is like amateur hour, it feels like some third rate shovelware devs attempt at making a Disney game if they had a moderate budget.

I bought EM1 for cheap and had some fun with it. Judging from review scores though, I won't even bother with EM2. Meh.

id've bought the 3DS one if it would've been the sequel to Castle of Illusions it was supposed to be, but the demo made me feel otherwise.

even the WU launch one wasn't a consideration when scribblenauts, sonic racing & zombi-u were there

Ah, ok. Yeah, I thought it was just December. 270K for December is believable, based on what I've seen. Would have to go back and look at November again.

Edit: Checked November. I'm going with "less than 600K" for the two combined.

Just trying to understand: if you know the real number, why don't you post it ? Or at least do what creamsugar does, give us an estimate.

Mpl90

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Didn't Dalthien say EM2 LTD was at about half of what EM1 did in its first month, 3DS version ( the second best selling SKU if compared with the others)?

it was a freaky friday moment because while you were anguishing over a bad warren spector game, i was enjoying a good sonic game in sonic colors.

I enjoyed the first game well enough, blemishes and all, for the Disney and Oswald factor.

Junction Point really needed somebody with some gameplay experience on this franchise; they wasted it, they wasted bringing Mickey back to his classic, scrapper character, they wasted Oswald's big revival, they wasted every awesome idea this franchise brought to the table.

I will never believe Sonic can be good again, Anihawk, I've given up on it! NEVER!

You can't trick me, Anihawk! I know your ways, your filthy treacherous traps!

P...probably has some fucked up anti-Sonic physics or something too, first thing I'd notice! "Anihawk says this is great, well I'll be damned... fuck is this floaty shit? Sonic are you serious?"

Wow. Not good at all.

Epic Mickey 2: The Power of 270k

Guys Nirolak and Harker both confirmed Epic Mickey 2 is WAY over 270k. Frankly if it's double or triple that, it's way too much. 270k would have been way too much.

The title should be changed actually to reflect this

I don't understand how they can have so many people working on a single game and still come up with something so uninspiring.

The first game at least tried to be ambitious, despite its flaws.

The second one was anything but. Esp. the omission of Wii Remote control from the Super Wii version. WTF was that?
