Single CD

34, *2,728 *2,728 Shinsekai yori "Wareta Ringo"

Yes I know the Imas CG CDs aren't anime but it's fun to see them chart.

Looks like the only one on this list (besides idol-related stuff) where the single is going to outsell any single volume of the anime.

I really hope they don't drag out the reveal for
the 3rd Precure
. They pulled that shit in Suite and it drove me nuts.
Potpourri is the best. In general I find the fairies in Heartcatch to not be annoying like in other shows, pooping seeds aside.

Low sales won't stop the show from airing.

Also, Robotics;Notes is all about moe.

What the fuck are you going on about? It's going to get wrapped up this season.

I tend to view anime single sales as an extension of franchise popularity unless the single was by Mizuki Nana. Plus, the ED did even worse...

It's certainly not looking good for Tamako Market... it won't "bomb," because this is kyoani and it's not nichijou, but still, it might well be lower than Hyouka's week one sales. The latter picked up as it went, though, but Tamako doesn't have two cours to work with.

A 2-cour show doesn't just get cancelled because of poor dvd/blu-ray sales. It doesn't work like that.

And finaly omg Erika HNNNGGGGG I liked her even her strange voice and she is funny now I'm interested in how she's going to overcome her sister.
Welcome to the Church.
At least you started in the right place!
Are you implying there are people that start with Rebuild? Why would anyone even dare suggest that to newcomers? Why do people hate good Anno and love CGI Anno?
HeartCatch Precure - 24 ( All links below contain spoilers)

I love how this episode just moments after her reveal went into OTP shipping (spoilers). With shots like these how can you not get on this ship?
Why did you take so long to watch this show? From here to the finale it's pure unadulterated awesome.
Eureka Seven 39

Delicious, delicious football action. This episode reminds me somewhat of the Rugby episode from FMPF. Seriously awesome football playing for no good reason, hahaha. It was a good breather after the heavy stuff on the way to it. Kind of like an eye of the storm.
Finally, someone who gets it!

Yeah, the story goes into full on manga-making mode and everyone just up and forgets about her outside of the occasional mention.
Man, that's hilarious. :p
I suppose nerds care more about Shounen Jump than they do about girls though. lol

Princess Princess 12 (end)

Same OP through the show. Point for his commitment to the higher pitch.

Now you have to watch the live action version.

I think you answered your own question.
Well, I double checked and it was sent from Singapore, for what that's worth. lol

Wandering Son 4

It seems to me that what they're coming up with is the best version of Romeo & Juliet ever created. Nitorin, Takatsuki, Sasa, Mako, and all the characters are great. The only one I have mixed feelings towards is Chiba. She's kind of a pain in the ass... But then when she lets her hair down it's impossible to stay mad at her. Besides, the situation she's in is the shittiest ever.

Symbolism! Also, some of the best feelings ever.

I think this is my favorite backlog season show.
Thinking back on the TV show and seeing where the characters are now in the manga... well, it's interesting to see how far they've come. I still think the manga can be a meandering mess at times and clearly the only one that matters is Nitorin, but that's Shimura I guess.

from the new world - 09

For all its faults, this is a remarkable show. It's 'mature' science-fiction in not only its intent but execution. You just don't see properties like this anymore, not just in anime but, well, just about everywhere outside of the confines of the novel. As the sales figures and ratings may attest, it might not be much appreciated by the fans, but I'm still glad this was, and is, being made.

http://i.imgur.com/YM8JH51l.jpg

---

I think the show is an example of good 'worldbuilding'--there's a misconception that this requires an encyclopedic assemblage of minutiae, that who-fucked-who or who-killed-whom 2k years ago is somehow important to the conception and sustenance of a world. That's faulty, though; it's the capacity to inspire, with things that aren't told but rather intimated, that resonates with the viewer. Present day motifs, religious symbols, all appropriated in the creation of a surveillance society. Echoes of what we know in contrast with the speculative, alien elements, it's pretty powerful stuff.

So episode 4 didn't happen? :p

I suppose 4 episodes isn't enough to judge something... but if that's how the novel opens, I probably would have dropped it like any other bad Baen book. That said, I suppose it's been a while since SyFy was about something rather than a series of plot-twist gimmicks that end up with a bunch of people going to church or mating with a bunch of savages after Saddam Hussein becomes Space Jesus with a harem. Ahem.

(Maybe all SyFy should have Lao Hu?)

----

Speaking of dumb SyFy, I skipped around through Tenchi Muyo GXP for some odd reason. I suppose they found a clever way to solve the harem problem:

qNAQETSl.jpg

Why choose when you can have them all? And it's guilt free since you are "ordered" to marry all of them and they all happen to inexplicably love you. lol
The weird thing is that he somehow ends up with 8 wives in the final scene of the show. Pro-tier harem protag.

I think anime has fucked me up so much that I honestly don't know if this kind of ending is better or worse than the harem shit that's been on the air these last few seasons.

(It's certainly a more genuine ending that SAO's let's give them a month before we jump Kirito ending. :p)

Yeah the nice thing about anime compared to western TV is that it's basically unheard of for a show not to finish it's scheduled run.

Maybe it should though. If they can it after this week, we could still get 7 episodes of something else on noitaminA before the Spring rerun of Katanagatari! :D

I wish someone had the story of why Mitsudomoe S2 was canceled though. They committed to a two cour show and managed to animate 8 episodes before pulling the plug. Given that they were only a few episodes away from the end of the season, at what point in the production pipeline did they just decide to kill it?

Definitely not unheard of. Gundam X, Final Fantasy Unlimited, Ayakashi Ayashi. All cut short from their scheduled runs.

True, but I would imagine that buying timeslots brings its own problems in regards to anime production, or something.

(Actually, if it weren't late, I would probably remember more about this.)

But I should be worried about other properties from the R;N guys being brought to anime? I don't really have any investment in that stuff though. But the trailer for the Occultic;Nine light novel or whatever it is looks potentially cool.

If they'd cancelled it last week we'd have enough time for a full reair of Black Rock Shooter. Alas, it was not meant to be.

Well, I said basically. I knew about the Ayakashi Ayashi one. But it's not something that happens all the time, every season like on American TV.

So will Tamako market's low sales end KyoAni's experiment with creating their own original properties?

It's not out yet. That's just the OP single.

The infodump in ep4 wasn't bad. Gave answers when they needed it, and it delivered just enough to set in place all the stuff that would follow, anyways.

I figure I'd comment on these numbers for giggles.

Current Fall 2013 Temporal (First Volume) Sales
17,520 *5 Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! [DVD+BD]: 2012/12/19
I guess I shouldn't be surprised that this is the more popular KyoAni show.

*6,249 *3 Kami-sama Hajimemashita [DVD+BD]: 2012/12/28
*2,494 *1 Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun [DVD+BD]: 2012/11/21
**,*** *0 Sukitte Ii na yo [DVD+BD]: 2012/12/26
It's interesting that the safest shoujo show hits "decent" numbers. Also the one with the lowest budget too. lol

Sukitte bomba'ing makes perfect sense, because I don't think girls who are watching anime really want to see anything resembling reality, but at least it basically finished its story in one cour.

*2,392 *1 Jormungand Perfect Order [DVD+BD]: 2012/12/21
This isn't much of a surprise as well, but again, it had the perfect ending to cap off a really decent season so I'm good.

*2,184 *1 Busou Shinki [DVD+BD]: 2012/12/26
Man, a show about figures that love you back bombing? Otaku are fickle. :p

**,*** *0 Hayate no Gotoku! Can't Take My Eyes Off You [DVD+BD]: 2012/12/21
Speaking of fickle nerds, I guess no one gives a shit about Hayate in animated form now?

The only history that's been discussed since has had direct relevance to the characters telling it.

It might not be your perfectly ideal sci-fi show, but it's significantly more invested in the realities of the present than in things related to past events. There's no chosen one on a quest to find the artifact left by the technologically-advanced yet extinct forerunner race in order to save mankind from an apocalypse.

Nitori's sister is a real bitch. Saorin certainly isn't very pleasant either but she has her reasons at least. I don't really know what to say about the goings on in each episode with how steady they are playing the story, but I like that. I like how they are able to keep the relationships somewhat natural, not going all cheesy and overbearing. I also like how the problems are seemingly insignificant, things most of us deal with in our lives. I think it lets the viewer get a good sense of the awkwardness the characters are feeling about themselves.

I wouldn't be worried. Steins;Gate did get an anime version even after the utter failure that was Chaos;Head, after all.

Was it that bad? I skipped it and just watched S;G.

Nothing Manglobe makes sells. (Well, nothing that comes to mind, anyway.)
Can't Take My Eyes Off You is horrible and incredibly ugly.

Honestly, saying that something has a better story than Assassin's Halo: The Effect of The Masses doesn't really suggest anything about the text itself. Well, other than the fact that it's, as Dresden suggested, ambitious anyway.

Maybe I'm a dirty syfy hipster, but I think Beasts of the Southern Wild did the whole post-apocalyptic thing better than the two hours of SSY that I've seen.

How were people ever in doubt that Bebop was popular in Japan, again? On the other hand, now I'm disappointed that glorious Japan has not bought into the revolution after all this time. :(
Well, you wouldn't do a pricey BD set if you didn't believe you could move some of them, right? lol

Reminds me of when I enjoyed the Hayate manga a lot more than I do now. :(

But SynergySP Hayate was great (except for that couple of episodes after episode 40 where it was boring). I was so excited for Zettai Karen Children after, and that went nowhere.

Probably. I gave up after the 2nd arc with the evil mangaka. All I wanted was an interesting behind the scenes look at Shounen Jump as much as a series being run in SJ could be.

OT: I hope you're watching Primeval: New World!

Yeah, the first one was probably the best. Then they decided to reboot it, which was fine... I suppose... then the third version happened.

Yeah, as much as I'm interested in the manga churn... I'd rather watch a documentary about a real mangaka than some fantasy version of writing manga.

And I don't know if I can handle Vancouver/Canadian SyFy anymore. Let alone a spinoff of Primeval... lol

That exposition actually ends up mattering, beyond ep5. Long term ramifications... kinda like the tradition of white guilt.

I haven't seen Beasts of the Southern Wild, but I'll take your word for it that SSY doesn't tell its story as well as an Oscar-nominated film.

Personally, I think the story really hits its stride at Episode 8. That's when the show starts addressing what it means to live in that society, and the forces that make it the way it is. The way they've been building off that in recent weeks has been really interesting to watch, and I think you'll appreciate the stuff it does well.

Having a better story than the Ur-Legend is certainly a low bar, but it sounds to me like you want a sci-fi story where the meat of it is less tied up in the mythos of the setting, and more related to the current struggles of the characters in that setting's particular environment. I can see then why Episode 4 would have set off alarm bells, but the exact historiography of slave kingdoms and scientists hasn't been referenced since. I could be wrong, but I think it's worth moving forward.
