I'm sorry I can't stand the absurdity. It was already there when people bitched about no Vita news during the PS4 Reveal. What the hell.
And those Directs are happening far more often.

At least bitch for something real and true.

I did bitch about something "real and true", you didn't care. If this Direct was as packed as the one with X, there would be far less "absurdity," but it wasn't.

I'm not sure if this level of animosity is really necessary. The argument being presented here is that the "event" nature of a Nintendo Direct suggests something more eventful than humdrum news. You think that it's their channel to communicate to end users however they desire, and that's fine. But I don't think people hoping for good news are complete nincompoops for hoping that such an "event" carries with it news worth being excited about, particularly given the current dire situation of the Wii U.

You realize E3 is less than one month away, right? Again, E3 is less than one month away.

Nintendo has already mentioned that there will be a substantial Direct around the time of E3, which is coming in less than a month. It seems as if GAF lacks the ability to think and bring some foresight to the table before deciding to grab the pitchforks...ESPECIALLY when it comes to Nintendo. I truly don't see what you were expecting other than some new footage and solid release dates this go around. And quite frankly, that's fine.

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.
Do people complaining about this Direct lack reading and comprehension skills?

I think that's just a vocal minority. Most people seem to get it.

First of all, no, I don't know what this E3 is. Thank you for the update.

Second of all -- with that bit of derisive sarcasm out of the way -- I wasn't really expecting anything. This event is probably about on par with what I figured it would be. I'm just making the case that -- in general -- I understand where people are coming from when they expect big news to drop at a moment's notice. Did you hear those NPD numbers yesterday? Because if you didn't -- and I'll just assume that you might not have since that's apparently the game we're playing as evidenced by you reminding me of E3 being next month -- they're awful. Some may be of the mindset that they don't have the luxury of just sitting around waiting for the big events to come to start tipping their hand and generating buzz.

But it wasn't the point of the Direct. If this Direct was all there was for E3 or if they said "Summer games will now be released on winter" then I'd agree.

I have no problem with people bitching about the far away dates.

Am I the only one really disappointed by the choice to focus on collecting fruit in the next pikmin?

I loved all those trinkets and parody descriptions of real items....
I am also disappointed it just seems so basic now. I also recall that the items were used to enhance various parts of the game like captain olimars suit NAD upgrading the ship etc..

The story in general seems so basic I guess the primary objective for Nintendo was to introduce newcomers with the game which isn't bad. I would have loved some continuity though.

When it's less than a month from the biggest gaming event of the year and you've already revealed a significant portion of your hand out of desperation already (that January Direct), then restraining yourself from blowing it all out weeks early and ruining your E3 doesn't exactly seem like indulging in a luxury.

If Sony had made announcements of this scale: An exclusive Sega/Sonic partnership with 3 upcoming games, release dates for several highly anticipated games, and the promise of the BIG bombs in just a few weeks, people would be jizzing themselves. When Nintendo does it, it's: 'Pshh... How boring. Whateverz...'

I guess I'm fundamentally in agreement with Ninja Scooter then, "This Nintendo Direct didn't need to exist." I don't expect megatons, but I do expect something "more" then what was shown, perhaps a preview to their E3/Fall show, but they just cut the thing off, and thats where I'm salty.

Are you serious? They fucking told you what was going to be in the Direct.

Your unrealistic expectations are your own problem.

Most of people complaining probably didn't even know about the ND until they started seeing negative reactions on Gaf. No matter what Nintendo does, there will always be a large population on Gaf that gripes and complains. They great thing is, it's easy to ignore those people :)

I agree that it's reasonable. I'm simply arguing that I don't think it's absurdly unreasonable to think that -- given the current situation -- these PR events might contain some surprises given that they can use any PR win they can get right now.

My only question is: Where is Wii Fit U or Wii Play U?

Play was never announced. They announced Party U. Probably Fit and Party will be the casual holiday titles (while other like Kart or Mario would be the "normal crowd" games)

The only thing I wanted for this Direct was a Wonderful 101 and we got that. That makes waiting easier, well that and having Pikmin 3 a month before.

NoA needs a slap in the head.

EVERY SINGLE GAME is coming out at least a week+ later than in other regions, some games even months. WHY?!?!

My fucking problem was that tease by Reggie at the end. I haven't went back and watched but at the time it really sounded like they were gonna show one last thing. Please understand I guess. But don't get me wrong besides W101 in sept it was a fine showing.

It's cool that the next Sonic game is a Nintendo exclusive. Hope it's a good one. Also want the 3D Sega games to come out in NA.

I liked the info on what was different in Resident Evil:Revelations. And you can play the whole thing on the game pad, that's nice.

DKCR:3D is going to be great. I forgot it was coming out so soon...

Pikmin bores me to death... once they start talking about it my eyes glaze over. Game & Wario too...
You guys seriously excited for those games?

Pikmin 3 continues to look absolutely amazing. I really like the food mechanic they're doing - it seems like a good way to increase tension over Pikmin 2 while not being as strict as the time limit of Pikmin 1.

I'm pretty excited for Sonic Lost World, too, not gonna lie.

Although the biggest bombshell is easily that Best Buy E3 promotion... because that raises the very real possibility of a playable Smash 4 demo in just a month. And that might be too much for my meager mortal mind to handle.

Bet on 3D Mario and Mario Kart instead. Unless things have changed (which I'd say is possible), Super Smash Bros. won't be playable at E3.

if they didn't announce this stuff now, they'd just do it at the next nintendo direct. i'd rather them talk about the new games

What do the NPD numbers have to do with Nintendo updating release dates of some of their titles via a video format with gameplay footage vs a press release? None of that argument is relevant when Nintendo's most important Direct of the year is literally around the corner. If E3 was in 5 months, we'd have an argument. But not in this case.
