For large companies and large orders prices don't just skyrocket. Contracts are usually worked out at fixed costs.

Indeed. The 4Gbit chips on the other hand could be the cause of the issue. Either it's a matter of shortages due to yield issue (could be prone to greater malfunctions or failures) as opposed to their 256MB chips.

I can understand that, especially if the demand is through the roof but a downgrade. I hardly believe that. I think people who want it to be..are insecure because there favorite system still doesn't match it. I don't get it though, why wouldn't anyone want a more powerful machine...Or even, why would anyone wish for something to be downgraded. That's just absurd.
