Circana (formerly NPD) February 2023: PS5 #1 in Units and Dollars, Switch #2, and Xbox #3 in Units

Not their only focus, but it'll boost console sales yes.
It's much more of a focus than the narratives in the fan communities let on. Otherwise, S models would not have been fire sale every other week for almost a year now. More boxes in peoples hands = more potential of subscribers to your service.

It's the most basic of economic products/services growth.

Benji isn't an insider but he does work on retail. There's a discount in the USA for the God of War bundle...it's probably flying off the shelves.

DAT 6M is happening for this quarter. This is hitting 40M by the end of June if not earlier. 50M with ease by the end of November or during december maybe, lmao.

Over 20+Million boxes in peoples hands so far. Really good.
Find it a bit weird people think Starfield will send Xbox flying. It’s an hardcore game set in space. How many people who haven’t already bought Xbox will be rushing to it?

People putting too much pressure on this game.
Lol Its a new huge Bethesda game. Wierd thing to downplay....Its gonna sell like crazy obviously.

MS doesn't need to focus on selling console like sony/nintendo do, so not really an accurate metric for people to be dooming and glooming with hyperbole lol, also SX stock is limited currently. And Xbox games are on Game Pass too.
Really? A few questions come to mind then:
  1. Why?
  2. If that's true, why do they spend money advertising Xbox consoles?
  3. Also, why does Microsoft sell Xbox consoles at a loss in order to gain market share if they don't need to sell them in the first place?

This is one of the biggest fallacies perpetuated. In order to grow subs for your loss-leading service and get them in a more stable black, you need to grow console sales for new subscribers.
It is partially true. Microsoft can act on the gaming market like Facebook is doing in the VR one. Spend billions without looking at returns this decade. Sony and Nintendo can't. They absolutely should focus on selling consoles, yes. And the metric has always been accurate for the part that matter most to people like us, the games. The console that sold the most will often have some of the best experiences. Nintendo is often the only exception, in good and bad. If Microsoft didn't care they would already put Gamepass on Playstation and Nintendo systems and touched 10 to 20 millions people on top of the clients they already have. And I talk only of a first party limited Gamepass. Not of the bullshit that they would want Sony and Nintendo to accept.

I'm pretty sure Microsoft know the demand for their console & know how many to ship each quarter . stuffing the channels & not being able to move them is really bad for business & that's the reason MS isn't flooding the market with Xbox Series X like Sony can with the PS5 it's supply& demand. pretending that Series X has a supply issue now that the chip shortage is over is pretty wild lol.

they just trying to keep a steady flow & not over produce the product when it's a high cost to produce them & hopefully get the price down before the competition have a price cut.

How am I downplaying it? And why does sell like crazy mean? Because people always seem to wanna go back to Skyrim and forget the other games they released in the mean time.

Also it’s only on two platforms now, and it’s on Gamepass. I’m sure it will sell a lot on PC.

Are you deliberately missing the point? Of course MS still wants to sell consoles, and they do. They just have other things like PC and GP as well so Consoles aren't the only focus. Why the strawman?
?

In that case, Sony also releases a lot of games on PC (they have likely released as many games as Xbox, if not more, on PC in the last 1-2 years now). And they also have PS Plus, just like Xbox has Game Pass.

Then why does Sony need to focus on consoles but Xbox doesn't?

That can be subjective. Can you quote a number that you think it'll sell at launch?
Idk a number specifically, but to think a new Bethesda game wont sell well is absurd. Like people are insinuating that it wont sell a lot bc its on Xbox?...lol

Sony's PC initiative and PS plus aren't the same to Sony as PC and GP are to MS.

Its the most anticipated game on Steam. They are going to market it as the next big game from Bethesda the makers of Fallout and Elder Scrolls. Elon musk is even talking about the game and he has like 130 million followers on twitter, i am sure a few tweets from him will drum up a lot of interest. If its good and lives up to all the hype I think its going to be a massive new IP.

Seeing a few of the reeee types lose their minds over this is... 😋

It is going to be a very long year for some people. The longest year ever probably.

true but Starfield being on Xbox will likely increase xbox hardware sales and increase Game Pass subscriptions. Sales may not be the best metric on the console for Starfield but you may see some insane players numbers like 25 million in the first month because of Game Pass
well...this is why Starfield is such an important release. is going to tell us a lot about the futute. 3 scenarios are very plausible

PS5 will set a new record for Q4 (>6.08 M)

Record February for the PlayStation brand and it looks like March will be even bigger.
It's also interesting that the first official promotions are arriving which is a sign that margins on hardware are getting better and with a possible Slim model later this year there's room for an official price cut.

I think it's time for Phil to consider retiring if he can't fix the stock and game release problems because of his poor decisions.

After Jan no big games until May to make people want an Xbox that's not on the other console.

That's 4 months. Look how bad Feb is, Match may be the same or worse for Xbox.

Unless May to September is filled with surprises and massive system selling releases, XS may turn into another Xbox One with 6M sales a year.

Hogwarts being first in sales on Xbox seems to contradict the notion that Xbox games don't sell. This was true even with less consoles sold. Of course MS doesn't rely solely on console sales to compete in this industry so that isn't the same as the other two console makers. Interesting indeed.

Where's Atomic Heart in the charts? We were told the Gamepass increases game sale, but it is nowhere to be found in the top 20 list.

Its too bad that they conveniently decided not to provide the individual platform charts as well. I bet MS requested they not publicly provide that as well. They must keep that narrative going.

Never said they didn't. Only that its not as much an accurate metric as it has been before. Which is true.
Sales will always be an accurate and important metric to a company that manufactures and sells a product and services dependent on said product.

Business 101 no matter the mental gymnastics one tries to PR to you when they've been inept in that department.
