GRIP |KS| A UE4-powered spiritual successor to Rollcage for PC/PS4

It's a shame it never reached the goal, but I think this is a more realistic approach for the game. The fans passionate enough for the game are still able to fund it early. It's guaranteed to gather more attention when people can actually get their hands on it and share it via social networks, streaming and YouTube videos.

Looking forward to early access!

Early Access is a great back-up solution in any case. It worked out great for Dirt Rally, Assetto Corsa and Wreckfest.

Just saw my email from Kickstarter and came here to post.
Such a shame, this game looks awesome in every way imaginable.
I do hope it makes it way to the PS4 at some point in time.
I am going to be building a new PC later this year and once I do, I will look to check out that version in the interim.

Will definitely buy in to the early access. Was really looking forward to this and I'm excited to play it and see how it ends up. Hopefully the playable demo will lead to more exposure too.

So the kickstarter was cancelled, but Steam early access is coming soon.

I've never done a Steam early access.. what is that, and does that mean this won't come to consoles?

Early access means you buy a game when it's in early alpha (like seriously early usually)
Then you wait for a year while features are added and you play alpha builds

Then 90 percent of the time devolopment stops and it's released 'as is'
The other 5 percent the game is in development limbo for a few years.
the last 5 percent of the time you end up with a solid finished game within the projected time frame.

General hard learned rule is: never buy an early access game based on 'promise', only buy it if what is there at the time of buying is already worth the money they charge for it, because it's extremely likely that this is all it's ever going to be:p

I wish these guys the best (love rollcage so much)
I hope they can come through and don't abandon it halfway through.

Oh come on, that's complete hyperbole

Many many games have been successfully released:
- Divinity Original Sin
- Satellite Reign
- Kerbal Space Program
- Infinifactory
- Hand of Fate
- Betrayer
- Turbo Dismount
- Door Kickers
- Sunless Sea
- Don't Starve
- Invisible Inc
- Crypt of the Necrodancer
- The Escapists
- Dead State
- Infested Planet
- Armello
- Drunken Robot Pornography
- Pixel Piracy

And many more get regular progress and updates:
- Broforce
- Besiege
- Subanutica
- Prison Architect
- Project Zomboid
- Lego Worlds
- Caves of Quid
- TerraTech
- The Long Dark
- Darkest Dungeon

and so on

Going to get the Driver tier from the site next week. I really want this game to get made.

Some great games on that list (Door Kickers is my pick of the bunch). To add to that first list...

Chivalry: Medieval Warfare (amazing)
FTL: Faster Than Light (amazing)
Pillars of Eternity (amazing)

Oh I am so in! I'm happy to see people remember Rollcage. I'm still not into backing games yet.

Thanks :)

The devs are really confident about this approach and are really anticipating the launch of the steam's early access.

More details about the Early access:

Thank you so much for the positive comments and continued support. We really are genuinely excited by this new direction. I'll try and cover as many of the questions as I can:
- It is possible to back for more than the highest tier: it is possible to order multiple copies. If you're not interested in extra keys, then the Passenger level would work for that.
- We are keeping to our schedule, so the timeline remains the same. We have re-jigged some aspects to enable Early Access to come sooner.
- We still plan to release on PS4. We are able to release a Beta on PSN - we haven't changed the plan for this.
- We still plan to release physical copies. Although, obviously that would be once the game is complete.
- We expect cut off for early bird codes to be when we launch on Early Access.
- We will be going to early access by whatever means we can... (although, probably not by selling Rob). The pledges through the site will help massively to keep us going in the interim.
Keep the questions coming,
-David

I have no problem with the Early Access approach. I rather have that than no game at all. Also looks like they still plan on a PS4 release, so I'm a happy camper.

Cool. Will certainly back it for early access as well. So what exactly will get cut? Something's gotta give, right?

Chris wanted to add a smiley face and say:

:)

Thanks for sticking with us guys. Means a lot.

As for the concern of abandoning the game part-way through early access...

Rob took Rollcage and Stage II and updated those games to work on modern systems perfectly. For free.

Then Rob and I worked for 8 months with no pay learning tons of software and developing the prototype you see in the trailers/shots.

I moved into my parents basement in a small town outside of Toronto to get it done.

You really think we're going to ditch this thing? Come on now

Sad to see it fail on kickstarter. No idea why, the presentation was pretty solid compared to a lot of titles.

I'm guessing no ps4 version till PC dev is complete, right?

I grabbed the Splatter tier from the early access page on their site as soon as I saw the backer update. I'm sad that the Kickstarter went down, but I'm glad the devs are committed to getting this made. I hope some of the physical stuff they were offering from the Kickstarter will see the light of day at some point, as they were looking really awesome. Maybe a physical CE release down the line once they're close to release? Maybe something early access people might be able to upgrade to? If not, that's OK too because I'm happy just to be getting the game.

HUZZAH! I don't think my PC is capable of keeping up with such a game, so this is a plus.

Really sad about the Kickstarter, but I will buy this game if it comes to PS4. Looks like a perfect couch multiplayer game.

Rollcage Stage II was and still is one of my favourite games. GRIP looks really interesting but it looks like there's still a long way to go... their early access build only has one track and doesn't even have multiplayer :(.

Perhaps this game will be really great in a few years if they keep working on it and adding cards, tracks, weapons, etc.

Well it is Early Access. I wouldn't be expecting half the game to be complete already, lol

I probably should have said this earlier, but are you still going to continue with making a physical version of the game? It was basically the whole reason for me considering on backing the game on Kickstarter.

Their website says:
We've got various digital reward tiers for you to choose from. Unfortunately, we cannot offer any physical rewards (car model, art book, RC car) at this time, but we are planning to make some available in the future.

Hey, I recently saw a Facebook post from the GRIP page mention "For those of you who haven't pre-ordered and subsequently gained access to the Art of GRIP folder" ...

I paid $20 USD for the 'Racer' GRIP Reward a few weeks ago, but I haven't really gotten anything else other than an invoice. Am I meant to activate something somewhere? I'm a little confused. Not sure how I'd access said art folder

Hi, thanks for purchasing the 'Racer' GRIP. Chris Mallinson apologizes for the confusion and told me to share the link publicly since GAF has been very helpful so far. Here it is: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/yf0b06no02nyqor/AADDd5hR3YZKEl2kJ0OdyAYWa?dl=0
