So why not just float the ipod controls and shortcut over the top half of the screen (you know, the one that you are already fading out?) when you double click the home button? would seem easier than swiping over to get music controls. :|

EDIT: Unless I guess the whole ipod app rolls into view when you do that. Would make the ipod icon a little superfluous though. Anybody know if that is the default or if they were already in ipod when that screen shot was take?

4.0 is changing a lot of basic ui stuff and making it more cluttered and complicated :/ . I can already foresee the requests from family and friends to explain whats going on.

It'd be better if the controls pop up on the first dock row when the iPod is playing, instead of having to swipe.

Why would folders have the same background as the multitasking tray?!

Yeah I agree, which is why I thought it would be good for iPad (although their iTunes thing is pretty awesome).

I just thought they could refine it to make it more practical while still looking cool.

I could see it being a better option on the iPad. The screen wouldn't look as cluttered with rating, a search field, and volume controls that fade in and out on the screen.

I haven't read through the entire thread, but am I the only person who thinks the iAd stuff is really REALLY cool?

I liked the old multitasking / folder background much better. It looked like they were going for the 'layer underneath' look.

Glad they added iPod controls back, and screen orientation lock is a nice addition as well.

Like to run some sort of app and have it notice if other iPhones around you are running the same app? At the most basic level, imaging all iPhones ran this app, for you to go to work and have the iPhone know that you crossed x other iPhones.

They're smart about it, in that existing apps won't need to release new versions to look good, and new apps can take advantage of the higher resolution.

yes, you're getting it right according to that rumor, except that the resolution of the screen is fit on the same-ish screen size, so it's just a higher pixel density.

june 7th release or announcement? release is highly unlikely. I don't think they've ever simultaneously announced and released the iphone. What they have done though is announce it at WWDC and then release it a week or two later. given that the most recently found prototype had no screws and limited seams, it's sounding like it will be the same here.

technically he's correct. it's twice the resolution/density... which equates to 4x the pixels. typically when talking resolutions, the percentage increase is referring to perimeter, not area.

You're right, in terms of pixel surface area. Doesn't this mean that if we take a screencap of the OS the app icons will be larger than iPad icons? I mean, wtf!

If they offer 32GB for a decent price or 64GB (at all) I'm getting this phone. My iPod feels too old and my phone died. It's either this or an HTC Desire and this looks really good.

I don't listen to that much music anymore. I am more of a podcast guy now. I love listening to podcasts about sports, politics, etc. when I am driving for work (which I do a lot of).

I really never use the iPhone camera either, but if it is a little better in the new one I might start using the camera and video more often.

music here also.. my collection is high quality CD rips (not Lossless, but 256K). I have around 8000 songs. As it is I had to pick n choose stuff to exclude. I would also love to keep videos on there and have my apps down to about 2GB.. I did try the 128Kbps conversion option as that would solve my problem and 99.9% of my listening is on apple earbuds, BUT the implementation is flawed at least for iphone in that it recompresses the audio EVERY TIME your content on the phone changes.... recompressing 29GB of music every single sync is... well.... :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol sums it up nicely.

so 64GB would let me keep my whole library on my phone, give me room for a dozen or so ripped movies or half a dozen digital copies, and still leave me more than enough room for apps, pics, and personal video. Sounds about right to me.

I have a giant music library, but the only time I listen to my iPod on my iPhone is when I'm working out. So that usually means I have ~6GB of metal, hard rock, etc.
But then again I'm somewhat of an audiowhore so the earbuds, etc. don't cut it for me.

And I'm on the David Lynch side of the camp when it comes to movies on a phone. But eh, to each their own.

Quit your whining. They touted 200+ patents with the original iPhone. Just because they apply doesn't mean they get them.

Oh I'm not complaining. If the bump in resolution is really this significant a millimeter or two aren't going to make any difference. I'm quite in love with the idea that the iPad and iPhone resolutions are going to be similar. Would make emulating iPhone apps really amazing on it.

Not really a limitation of the app. It should be scaling in quality depending on how good your connection is.

Over WiFi it should be fairly solid.
