Sailor Moon was pretty important for it's time and the idea is pretty good and all ..... but Usagi is a dumb egoistic girl who only wants to get thin and be protected by tuxedo mask

She is like the WORST role model for a feminist ever.

...which is why uranus and neptune rule
I remember an episode where she kicked so much ass. She ran at full speed, dodging left and right and jump kicked the crap out of the villain. I was like OMFG. Then she just turned into dumb idiot for the rest of the rest of the series. WTF was that about.

Oh that is good to know !

The manga only got an oficial brazilian portuguese version a few months ago ... so I only saw the anime
Aside from hitting the major plot points, the manga is nothing like the anime past the fourth chapter.

Usagi really was shit but I will say she contrasted well with the other Scouts.

any idea if this going to be localized again? like "Serena" instead of her original japanese name?
is it even dubbed? or do we get the originals with subs?

edit: thx for the info.
I have never used crunchy roll before, do I need to sign up in order to watch their content/sailor moon?

No localization, just subtitles. Viz Media should be releasing a dub sometime in the future, though, since they have the rights to the series. No clue when that'll happen, though, but probably not for a very long time.

Viz Media is also redubbing the entire original series, and the first half of season one should be out this fall.

Well, it's been 20 years. She still sounds like Usagi but she can't hit some of those same pitches.

I'm still butthurt over the lack of Toru Furuya.

Kotono Mitsuishi sounds off to me. If I didn't know any better I would assume Usagi was recast and Luna had the same voice actress from that trailer.
If anything, I vastly prefer her voice now. Old anime Usagi's voice could be a little grating. This deeper pitch sounds better imo, and it's still instantly recognizable as Usagi's voice.

I wouldn't want her to hit the same pitches. It doesn't match the more mature tone.

I always assumed she was the female version of a traditional male Shonen lead- hot-headed/dumb, what was different in the Manga?
She's a little immature at times, but mostly for brief instances of comic relief rather than actually defining her.

Is that the first two weeks from when the series starts or the first two weeks after every episode on NicoNico?

You don't need to pay for a VPN when there's the Mediahint browser extension. Let's you browse the internet as if you were in the US.
Apparently Mediahint became a paid VPN.

Last time this came up, people suggested "Hola Unblocker" as a free alternative.

Must still be free if you already had it installed since before they decided that. I do get prompted to pay when I open my browser in a new window, but I never did and it still works perfectly. Surely there must be a way around?

Either way, there are many ways to do it for free. But having a VPN isn't so bad, lets you do a lot of cool stuff!

I am still trying to reconcile the notion that while this Sailor Moon Crystal may never see a run on Japanese TV the odds are it will eventually run on American television.
Nah. I think it will end up on Japanese TV eventually. But if it doesn't... and ends up on American TV first, I swear to god I will <awful verb here>.
NicoNico just launched their pages for all 12 languages that they're supporting. Here's the English page: http://sp.ch.nicovideo.jp/sailormoon_English

Usagi is a young woman who has the fate of the world thrust upon her and grows as she gradually takes up this responsibility. Of course she doesn't react well at first. Of course she's scared and uncertain. However, she's also good natured and, more importantly, cares little for social norms and expectations. She does her own thing in her own way. This is precisely why she's able to be the focal point of her group of friends that would otherwise be outcasts, and also why she's somewhat tomboyish from a Japanese perspective.

The whole getting thin bit was one episode, and the show goes around having fun with different fads, of which all turn out to be evil, obviously. As for Tuxedo Mask, the ultimate irony is that while Usagi does find him terribly attractive, he's undependable and most of the time completely useless. He doesn't actually DO much of anything most of the time! Usagi has to do all the actual heavy lifting, and just needs a bit of help or encouragement in doing so.

Most of all, though, Usagi is also the comic lead of the show as well as the dramatic lead. None of the show works without her, and bashing her as you have shows how little you pay attention.
