Crytek will be showing demo of CryEngine 2 at GDC. Now only thing I need to run this is two DX10 cards. :) But, seriously, this is really amazing real-time rendering. Gotta see it.

EDIT: Post # 27

GameTrailers is wrong though...

Both of those videos are not of the game Crysis but of IMAGTP's IMAGIN3D architecture and urban planning tool (Interactive Virtual Model), which uses CryENGINE 2. The new video, the Tramway one, is a leaked unfinished demo video. The finished version of it should be out soon.

Also... all the IMAGIN3D media should be in DirectX9.

Damn why are they making this for PC.

Exactly...:lol :lol :lol

But I have faith that there will be games on PS3/360 that will have comparable graphics to this..
which looks beautiful indeed

Possibly the stupidest thing I've read on this forum...

Sorry. Had to elaborate a bit more. Forgot to add "... since mine is 10 years old and I dont have the money to buy a new one until the Armageddon".

Got it now?
wasn't hard to read between the lines anyways

HOLY ****ING CRAZY!

That's awesome! And you can tear each one of those trees limb from limb and all the pieces will cast their own shadow.

In before "bad art"

With "real time video"... Do they mean the video is rendering real time or that the scenery is real time? Hmmm...

Whilst the engine is amazing, and the lighting in Hillside especially is awesome, I really can't see an actual game getting the quality of models and scenery on display.

The AA and filtering alone is well beyond what I would expect to see actually in-game.

However, I'd love to be wrong on that :D

How do you even see that? those videos in the OP are so small that I can't see shit. At that res current cards would most likely have no problems with high levels of AA. And the compression artifacts don't make it better. Are there any HD/HQ videos around? What I can see hints at something amazing (the lighting looks near offline rendered) but I'd like to really see it.

Oh god, give me a VR headset with those visuals and I would be in heaven. I don't care if I have to attach dual SLI'ed 8800GTS's on the headset which will burn a hole in my scalp. Give it to me@@!

The tramway demo was sneaky. It's only at the end when you see the shadows flowing into night that you go 'whoa' Keanu style.

the tech demo is nice and all, but i wonder how it would stand when you start putting in other dynamic factors into the environment like say people, cats, dogs, wind, floating leaves, garbage tossed about by the wind, other modes of transports like cars, bicycles, baby strollers etc...

i just hope it won't be another DOOM 3 where we only have max 2 baddies on the screen at any one time.

The first one... just WOW (hillside)
The second one starts so bad, I mean, it doesn't do the engine any justice, the sky looks like complete shit, the city looks crappy (like a plastic model). The second part of the video is much better though.

I wonder what Far Cry 2 will be about... Hopefully... ZOMBIES OR DINOSAURS AND THAT FREE-ROAMING
Doesn't look like that from concept art: http://farcry-2.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=16&Itemid=28

And Far Cry 2 is being developed by Ubisoft not Crytek. So we have to wait before we get excited about it.

Regarding tech demos, they should try CryEngine 2 to create full length animated motion picture. It is almost like Pixar quality.

Christ that's awesome. you know, I would not mind having another "between generation" console with say, 3 to 5 times the performance of the best aspects of both Xbox 360 and PS3
just to play games that look like this @ 60fps. [/graphics whoring]

The PS3 and 360 will be able to do these graphics. Just wait. Give it some time.

from what I understand, yes and no. Xbox 360 and PS3 will be able to do graphics that are in some ways better, but in other ways not as good as this. the current consoles have certain strengths and weaknesses compared to newer PC graphics cards.

Yep that's right. But once one game does it you better believe that others will be doing it 6-8 months later. Being that the PS3 and 360 are equal in power we can be sure of that.

Makes you wonder how ****ing awesome the newest PC games will look by that time, then.

CPU<=>GPU memory bandwidth being a big strength for the next gen consoles compared to PCs...

that is true. however, both console GPUs (Xenos and RSX) are far less powerful than the current Nvidia G80 - GF 8800 GTX, and really not as powerful, overall, as the fastest graphics cards from 2005.

Who cares, since GPUs don't exist in a vaccum....

PC games can and do require assistance from the CPU, which is all the more reason the PCI-E bus needs to be expanded(even past the 2.0 spec, IMO)....

These consoles are not PCs....they are pretty much designed from the ground up just for games (no matter what the hell Sony says) and as such tackle game graphics from the entire system level and not just the GPU.....

Yeah, you can have 1GB(or more) data loaded into that Beefy PC card and, sure, certain kind of games will take advantage of that....

OTOH, certain kinds of games are better suited to stream architectures like X360 and PS3 and you will see *certain* types of games on consoles that cannot be duplicated on PCs, mainly because of that small ass CPU<=>GPU pipe(notice that is pipe as in singular).....

Its all about catering to your strengths and avoiding your weaknesses.......this will be true of both PC and Console games :)

New graphics cards with PCI Express 2.0 and GDDR4 memory will be hard to beat powerful beasts.

Again, even a PCIE 2.0 x32 connector can "only" transfer data 16GBps.....not even a match for 22.5GB/sec mem bus found in X360, let alone the PS3.... AND that is not even taking into account the multiple data busses of these 2 consoles....

Your princess is in another castle.....
