Let me give you my perspective on this as a non-native speaker of English.
I love English and all its variants and dialects. I like your average British/American/Australian accents as well as their more colourful variations.
There was this group of Americans in the Paris underground the other day. They were in their twenties, so roughly my age, maybe slightly younger. Among them was one girl who just kept talking. I wouldn't have minded it if she didn't have the loudest, most valley-girlish vocal fry I have ever heard.
Vocal fry is the worst. As is valley girl talk. From a French person's point of view at least, the two put together make you sound dumb yet snobbish, shallow yet entitled. They make you sound like the most self-absorbed bitch ever. This is seriously aggravating and I'm glad there was enough noise that I couldn't understand everything she was saying. Still made the underground trip very annoying.
Say no to the vocal fry.
[EDIT] Though I don't see what's that got to do with having a low/deep voice. The girl in my example didn't have a particularly low-pitched voice.
