You will be given one class from each crystal set and can use only that class until you receive a new one. You can only use the four classes assigned to you. During each phase up until getting the last class, you can have two (or more) characters as the same class. So basically, when you get your last class, each character must be a different class.

Example: Your classes are Monk, Time Mage, Bard, Chemist.
You unlock Monk. Everyone must be Monk.
You unlock Time Mage. You must have one Monk and one Time Mage. The either two can be either Monk or Time Mage.
You unlock Bard. You must have one Monk, one Time Mage and one Bard. The last character can be either Monk, Time Mage or Bard.
You unlock Chemist. You need one Monk, one Time Mage, one Bard, and one Chemist.
But, each character doesn't have to stick to that class. Butz can be the Time Mage and Kurururururururu the Bard and you can swap Butz to the Bard and Kurururururururu to the Time Mage.

Questions I thought you might ask:
Can I use Bare? No.
Can I use Mime? No. You can unlock it if you want to go through the dungeon, though.
Can I use a class multiple times? Only until you get all four classes. Really, I don't care what the hell you do with those four classes, but when you take a picture of you beating the final boss, I'd like to see all four classes on the screen.
And the bonus FF5a classes? No. Unless you want to play Bare until you unlock them and use only them! Then feel free to do that.
Can I make every character master every one of my four classes? Yes. And that means you can use sub-skills.
Can I get fucked over? Hell yes. If the randomizer picks for you Monk, Berserker, Beast Master, Dancer I can see you having an interesting time. But that is what this is about. A challenge. And a bit of craziness, which is always fun.
What is the randomizer? A perl script I wrote last year.
Can I play before the official start time? I'd prefer not but I guess you can play up to unlocking the Wind Crystal and saving before you equip any jobs.
What version of FFV is acceptable? Any.
Can I really do this? Hell yeah. Last year I did get Monk, Berserker, Beast Master, Dancer. And I not only beat the game but I beat the damn Fork Tower. Without casting magic on the guy you have to deal non attacking damage to!
What if I get the exact same job lineup as last year? You are a magical fairy and should eat as many cookies as you like!

FF VAdvance over PSX, well to me. Honesty haven't played the SFC version so I don't know about that one.

I started playing this on my DS a while back but never finished it. In fact, this is probably the FF I've started and never finished the most. I'd be in, but worried that getting a bad random selection could make the game nearly impossible for someone unfamiliar with the full game.

Actually this is why I am doing it, I have only beat the game one, and I was very specific with the clases I used so anything outsideo f those and I am going to be totally fucked.

I don't think I would ever get around to playing FFV if I wasn't doing this. It's in my backlog like all the Steam games I bought on sale. :lol

I could record my playthrough since it would be interesting to play with restrictions without a prior playthrough, but I'm not sure anyone would watch it. I could trim it down at least.

I wonder how many are going to say they haven't played FF V.

It is so amazing it always shocks me that it seems so underplayed. I know it didn't come out but damn there are few better experinces the FF V A on a GBA Micro, shit is fucking brilliant.

Buy a cheap, used Gameboy Advance and get Final Fantasy V Advance for the challenge. It's a lot better than the PS1 version.

Yeah, but where are we gonna get a copy of FFV-A on such short notice? The only version I have is the PS1 as well. I mean, it'll do in a pinch. It's not unplayable or anything.

It's not THAT hard to find. Just about any Gamestop or used game store should have a copy. IV and V Advance are fairly easy to find. VI Advance is the rare one.

FFVa is not rare. You can find the cartridge pretty easily I believe in the used sections of Gamestop for example.

Huh? Sorry, I'm not sure what you're not understanding. You can only use the four jobs that you are randomly assigned and you try to beat the game.

I'd recommend looking at the original thread to get a feeling of how it panned out.
But yeah, it's just a simple challenge. Some people give up because of shitty line-ups or because it's too hard. Comms? Communication? You can post about it wherever but plenty of people give updates or screenshots or whatever. Little to no PM messages will be needed.
As far as deadlines go, no. I know I'm busy (and slow) at games so I don't do it like that. Some people start late, others will fly by within the first few days. I'll try to compile a list of who beat it and the order in which people beat it, but I'll need a post stating that clearly preferably with a screen cap or a picture taken with a good ol' camera. Not to mention some people will get powerhouse parties and others will get shit. Some can beat it much earlier than others. While FFV doesn't normally require any grinding, I feel, this challenge could ask some grinding of you simply because the numbers don't add up over time for some jobs.
