Evolution 2014 Thread 2: Evil doesn't prevail July 13th - Final day

I think if you ask people who won Marvel EVO last year, they probably would have said Justin Wong. At least they can do it this time

LMAO ChrisG

I watched Blazblue, Marvel and Street Fighter finals. I really enjoyed all of them. What's more, I managed to make my girlfriend watch as well, I'm slowing starting to indoctrinate her in the ways of fighting games.

I wish SnakeEyes had won. He gave Louffy a really hard time.

goddamn that second to last round though for snakeeyez

Just caught up with SFIV. Damn I'm surprised that Ricky has this amazing anti-'Gief tech and yet still was outplayed by a Zangief. Not only that but Snake Eyez then plays Rose who does the same and wins.
I think SFIV has changed for the better. We're seeing characters like even Evil Ryu and Rose be considered top 10 because of footsies rather than silly crossups and vortex. It's actually a low more intense and I think makes SFIV a more "respectable" game.
Just my thoughts on it. It does feel like a different game. The pacing is so different now.

The X Mania tournament was incredible, it doesn't get any better than that. No other tournament at EVO had the same level of hype. It was amazing to see Valle beat Tokido the way he did, it was textbook. Mao's claw is disgusting, no wonder Japanese tournaments soft ban him.

That Webm is beautiful.

That dance at the end:

Yeah, overall I think Ultra feels good. Obviously I was rooting for snakeyes as a fellow gief player, but Rose is generally a tough matchup for gief with her supreme backdashes and quick punishes. Overall though, it was close and I believe snakeyes could have taken it over luffy had it not been for having ultra 2 in the second game and perhaps if he was a bit more aggressive in that very last round.

In the end though, I think that luffy had a better shot at beating fuudo's lame fei style of play and overcoming gief's worst matchup in sagat, the odds were stacked even higher since it was also the best sagat in the world.

If snakeyes was able to beat luffy, fei and then bonchan? I think that right there would outdo even daigo's famous parry from years ago, that would have been insane, defying all odds.

Finally got to watch the Street a Fighter finals. Good stuff! Really enjoyed watching Louffy play.

Also, the snakeyes vs fuudo was it? Or gackt...? The one with the craaaaaaazy footsies. That was fantastic.

Missed a lot of the final day action so slowly going through the archives, was there a combo video this year by desk?

Only one that mattered. ST too good

It really is. I appreciate modern fighters except for Smash, but when you see ST at that level... man. Those players are unbelievable, I'm so glad that kind of thing can even happen. There were so many great Japanese players! Hopefully they keep Tournament of Legends and X Mania going at Evo. What an incredible event.

its an interesting storyline for Chris. He is hands down one of the most dominant players in marvel 3 but he cannot win the big one.

My feels!

Nah but Sonic Hurricane showcased a combo video just before USF4.

Edit: Unfortunately it's split exactly between broadcast sets (the coincidence eh?).

Wow, Rose is really good in this game.

There were many similarities to Xian's gen last year which got him nerfed.

I wish they'd left Gen alone.

Hey guys,

Quick controller question, I used to use my HAP 3 stick for fighting games but now have a projector setup that requires a wireless controller to work. Would you guys recommend the 6 button game pads that were put out for SF4 or are there any wireless fightsticks you would recommend?

I'm sure there are people somewhere out there who enjoy the sound of fingernails on chalkboards, too. I, however, am right there with you. Grass growing, linoleum peeling, Smash playing.

yall need to switch to the low sodium version of your complaints :p

How's Guilty Gear doing these days? :)

It's a thing for a lot of the same reasons Marvel is a thing.

1. The characters. People love those characters.

2. The gameplay system. People come for the characters, and stay for the addictive gameplay.

Also the community is able to take years worth of crap and insults thrown their way and yet still be very welcoming to newcomers plus thankful for the support at all their tournaments whether people like them or not.

Seriously.
The Statline before the match really proves it.
35 tournament Grand Finals appearances in Marvel over the span of the game.
That's RIDICULOUS.

It's fucked up that people don't recognize player skill and blame character balance instead of giving credit where credit is due.

Yep, Louffy has always been a really strong player in Europe even when Rose was not considered a great character. The amount of great players he beat on his way to win the title is staggering as well.
