Pok Pok is good. It's often quite busy, though. A good idea is to go across the street to the Whiskey Soda Lounge, which is owned by Pok Pok, and get food there. Not quite the same experience but it's good.Thank you again so much for your input! Yeah, I am definitely not going to sit around in a tattoo parlor all day and wait. I think renting a bike and just exploring the city will be a great way of spending the time.
Has anyone here tried Pok Pok? I hear great things about it.

Pok Pok is decent. I refuse to wait for food, though. No food is that good.
Definitely go to Powell's. Its an amazing place and you can easily loose a few hrs going through the whole building. From there there are foodcarts and then the shopping district plus Pioneer Square. Its all close by and nice, and there is plenty to look at around there. Including The Pearl district.
If you give us some other ideas on what you like doing we can be a bit more specific.
There is actually the historic district that has this walk of green surrounded by museums and the college area. Its a very nice part of town and nice to walk this time of the year when its sunny and green.
Around there they also have a lot of the concert halls and theaters.

Coming from LA I am really looking forward to the bike friendliness, the public transit, closeness to nature, and seeing all the trees and greenery! Are you still in LA? Just as a heads up Pok Pok does have a location there. I've been to Pok Pok in PDX once and didn't have the greatest experience, but am willing to give it another shot since that one time was with a large group. Their trademark wings aren't really worth the wait however. If you want nature head out to Forest Park and seek the Stone House or Washington Park and it's Rose Test Garden. Portland is by far a walking city and bike friendly so you'll def. get some good use by renting a bike. Biking around the waterfront and crossing over the bridges is a fun time and gives you some nice views of the downtown skyline. The Saturday Market is out there too and will give you that window shopping experience. There's a particular Gyro stand there that's really great. 23rd, The Pearl, Downtown, the waterfront, and even South East is all in biking distance. However, you'll need some other form of transportation if you want to make it out to the gorge for even more nature fun. If you wanna do some beer tastings there are some tour groups, like the BrewCycle, that hop from brewery to brewery or you can stop by a few yourself. Can't go wrong with Breakside, Cascade, The Commons, Deschutes brew pub, Hair of the Dog, Upright, Baerlic, Culmination, Gigantic, or Occidental.

There are a few decent cheese steak places. Philadelphia's in Sellwood and also Steakadelphia on Powell. Chinese food at Kenny's Noodle House on 82nd/Powell, and across the street is a Vietnamese sandwich joint called Best Baguette. Pho place on 82nd between Powell and Division called Pho Hung. These are some of the places I like to eat.

If you love Cuban food you definitely need to look in to Pambiche. And if you like Mediterranean check out Nicholas Restaurant in South East... highly recommended. If you're craving chicken then look to going to CHKCHK off 23rd in the Alphabet District for some great chicken sandwiches or Reel M Inn over in South East, a true hole in the wall, but they serve some of the best fried chicken you can get your hands on. For pizza, grabbing a slice at Mississippi Pizza is my suggestion or you can go fancy with Ken's or Apizza Scholls. For deli style comfort food there's Elephants Delicatessen on 22nd. If you want a good breakfast without the wait of some of the other places in town check out Pine State Biscuits or if you don't mind waiting then Screen Door. BTW we love our brunch in Portland so if you are thirsty for mimosas there are plenty of places that have 'em bottomless on Sundays. And if you fancy doughnuts avoid Voodoo (there's better ones similar to it in LA like California Donuts or The Donut Man) and go to Pip's. I'd tell you to go to Blue Star and Salt & Straw, but they have locations in LA now too.
Most McMenamins locations surprisingly used to have amazing calzone, some of the best I've had, but they dropped em from the menu and haven't found a good alternative. I've heard the calzone at Flying Pie is pretty good, but haven't tried it personally.
I've always liked Flying Pie's calzones and they're pretty reasonably priced for what you get.
Pambiche huh? that sounds good. Maybe i'll take my wife there today. Loving all the food recommendations lately.

Went to Pambiche and it was really good. Thanks for the recommendation. We'll definitely go back there. Got there yesterday around 9.15am for brunch and by 9.45 the place was packed. So we were happy we got there earlier. If it had not been a chilly morning we would've sit down outside. But yea. Overall we had a great time, the food was really great.

We are also considering buying a home. But i would need to look more into it.
This Woodlawn area is really nice when we've cruised around there.
Any recommendations? Right now we live way north of Portland.
Woodlawn is great, I lived near there. There is some gang violence around the neighborhood (one person was shot and killed in that park last year) but it is a lovely neighborhood. P's & Q's Market has great sandwiches, Woodlawn Cafe tasty coffee/treats and Good Neighbor pizza is a nice little bar/eatery as long as you do not care about fast service.

Well, here's a new one for me:
As I was about to get on the Max a teenager smashed a doughnut or cinnamon roll into my hair. I thought he simply punched the side of my head until I realized I had some frosting and dough on me.
He then proceeded to stare at me in the window and walk along as the Max started moving so I just shrugged and smiled at him. I think him and his friends weren't amused at all by my reaction.
Wish it didn't get on my backpack but a little soap and water should clean that up. Also, I smell like sugar now so that's pleasant.

aw... at least around here morning until around 2pm its fairly cool. Specially if you keep a fan going. Thats what i did until i could not take it and turned on the AC.

I welcome the cool down after that much heat for sure, and the rain is nice so that all the grass doesn't look yellow and dead already.
Also, watching that giant fleet go by the Steel Bridge was awesome. Too bad i was not off the MAX or i would've taken some pictures. Yay for Friday! wish it was warmer this weekend so i could go to the beach.

My wife and I are visiting Portland the last week of June. We're staying four days in Portland, and using up a day to drive up the coast to fly back home out of Seattle.
Probably using one day to just drive around Portland, and surrounding suburbs to get a feel for the area. Maybe even go look at some apartments, so we have a good idea where we want to settle in. The other three days I'd like to see what Portland has to offer.

We mainly want to get a feel for the area. The first day we might just drive around the neighborhoods and suburbs, possibly catch an IMAX movie. I also want to check out the natural beauty of the area, and visit the Oregon coast on our way up to Seattle.
Plenty to see.
Have fun, and holler if you need some advice/recommendations/anything else.
The drive by the coast is really awesome if you have the time. Lots of nice places to stop and this weekend its supposed to be sunny and nice weather! yay!

Which park do you recommend for a nice hike with some scenic areas? We're interested in checking out Multnomah Falls, Portland Japanese Garden, and a nice view of Mt. Hood. Oregon has so many beautiful parks, it's almost overwhelming. We can only do so much in the span of four days, but we'll have plenty of time to explore everything when we relocate.
Any suggested stops on the Oregon Coast?
Also, how is Ground Kontrol Classic Arcade?

Ground Kontrol is awesome. Definitely go there.
Multnomah Falls has become insanely popular over the last few years, so much so that the parking lot there is overwhelmed and usually gets shut down. Instead, you can park at Rooster Rock state park nearby, and catch a shuttle.

But they Hoyt Arboretum is awesome for hikes and nature walks. All free too, you just gotta make sure you get there early. I recommend the Red woods deck and the 3 hikes around it. Its a beautiful path, generally pretty quiet with lots of things to see. Plus the redwood deck is pretty awesome.
I really like the Multnomah falls, but its crazy busy with people. I would suggest going to the neighbor falls. It has a nice hike up the mountain and by the side you see the river go down. Its a really nice one. There is also Crown Point vista, which has a beautiful view of the river and of Portland.
I have yet to go to Ground Kontrol. But the idea of a room full of pinballs sounds like a great time.
Oregon Coast stops. Cannon beach is awesome and as a Goonies fan you have to stop there and also Astoria. Really nice spots, but tbh, anywhere along the coast on a beautiful sunny day will be nice. You can see all the awesome rock formations and a windy road along the coast.

Not late at all. We landed at 6pm yesterday and drove to our hotel in Lake Oswego. I was Immediately impressed with the area. Absolutely beautiful and clean, It's everything we hoped it would be. Can't wait to make this home in six months.
Going to start early today. Need to drive around to points of interest for housing, and get a feel for the area. My wife would like to live in a suburb with easy access to transit to downtown Portland. I'm fine with that, but I'd like to live closer to downtown the first year.

Lake Oswego is pretty nice.
Portland is pretty good with public transit. Whether its the MAX or the buses. So access to either is usually pretty common.
Close to downtown is nice, plenty of areas if you are willing to spend the money. The Pearl is always in high demand. I live way north next to the Columbia River and i like it there. Commute to downtown takes me between 40 to 50 mins depending on when i catch the MAX, but its not that bad. I have been looking at places to move now with the baby coming.

We didn't get to sit down and eat at a restaurant. Most of our eating was either in the car, at a picnic table, or breakfast at the hotel. The Buckman Terrace seemed alright if we decide to live closer to downtown. We also checked out an area in Beaverton / NW Barnes Ferry suggested by a gaffer in this thread that we also really liked. Rent in the Portland area is about double what we pay now, but quality of life is way higher it's not even close.

That second area you posted is a few blocks from me. It's pretty good and makes it fairly easy to get around. Just be aware that the nearest park-and-ride for mass transit fills up super early so if that's something you're trying to factor into your location just be aware you'll have to likely drive to a park-and-ride a bit further out unless you'll be parking before 7am on the weekdays. That's the sting for me as I work 1p-9p so there's no hope for me at the one that's five minutes from me so instead I drive fifteen minutes to park.
If they'd simply add sidewalks along Barnes up to Sunset Transit it wouldn't be an issue as I could just walk there in around the same time as I currently drive but for some reason there's no sidewalks around the busy intersection as Barnes and Cedar Hills. Oh well!
I think the main reason I look forward to any traveling I must do is simply to find new places to eat. I can't fathom going somewhere new and not eating at the restaurants there, heh.

Anybody here playing Pokemon Go? Haven't had a chance to make my way out of the burbs into the city yet, but I bet it's a pretty crazy scene. I've already ran into a good amount of people wandering around Tualatin and Tigard trying to catch 'em all.

My roommate is into it and so she wanted to catch a bunch when we went to eat and then she drove around a bit trying to find lures and gyms. I started it up so I wasn't just sitting there doing nothing. It's an amusing diversion but I won't be running around all day to find lures and such.
That was out in Beavertonish sort of area. Quite a few lures in the area so people are active.
It is crazy to me. I walked around Division/Clinton area today a couple different times with my daughter so she could catch Pokemon. We were running into groups of 2-5 people every other block. It was hilarious. We all knew what we were doing too and there were many times when we stopped and talked to the other people and had a laugh about how hilarious it all is.
She is loving it of course, and I am just kind of taken aback by the whole phenomenon. I am no stranger to games taking people by storm, I mean who didn't get sucked into Candy Crush or something similar, but to actively see like... EVERYONE I run into in a busy part of the city playing it? It felt crazy. I love it.

I have a sister living in Portland. A notification popped up on my Facebook timeline saying that shes interested in going to a Pokemon Go meetup that'll congregate at a Starbucks somewhere in town. It had 2.9k people saying they'll attend. I'm excited to see the turnout because that's pretty bonkers.
There's quite a few coming up. There's a pub crawl on the 22nd that's starting out at Ground Kontrol. I'm interested to see how many people show up. It could look like a freaking parade.

Even here in the tiny towns (Salem) I see a shit ton of people around our parks. Riverfront has so many Pokestops that constantly have the Lure Module activated all over the place.
