NFL 2017 Offseason thread |OT2| - I Mean Look What Our Teams Did For Us!

Old man Grossi was actually positive about the draft. I think taking Kizer In the 2nd swinged him. If that didn't happen Im pretty sure he woulda said F lol. Think his only gripe is that he might have stayed at 12.
Grossi is hilarious. Probably my least favorite Browns "reporter" in that he rarely seems to know what he's talking about.

And I'm liking what the Browns did this year. Really looking forward to watching these players develop.
Most of the things he reports are his opinions and not what's actually going on in the org, and it gets taking like facts by many.

He has no choice really. He has zero contacts within the organization and they flat out hate him. All he can do is opinion.

Not like my girl Mary Bae tho.

Mary Bae is ok during the season, because it seems they do give her stuff.

But outside of the season and draft stuff she has no idea what she's talking about. Very Fake News like.

Pls don't fight me.

I tend to not really listen or read what he says cause it never seems very substantial. It's like when MK "reports" as well; a lot of opinion and generalized talk. The Browns did exactly what I was hoping they would do with taking 2 defensive players in the first round and Kizer in the second, and that move up for the TE was a surprise. I'm not sure how any Browns fan can't be encouraged by this draft. Personally, I can't wait to see how Peppers plays.

I'm only gonna say this once.

Put some respeck on Mary Kay's name.

I won't stand for this slander of her.

Her love of Garropolo is too much tho, let it die

No beat writer from any organization knows anything on their own. Listening to their opinions on players is a fools' errand.

So I guess the bills kept their gm just to help with the draft. So odd, if you think he is a bad gm why do you want him involved with your draft?

I think most scout and front office contracts run through the draft. Charlie Casserly ran the draft where the Texans took Mario Williams and then was soon after let go

Sports Illustrated says we are doing it.
But what we can assess in the immediate aftermath—with the bulk of roster-building done for the year—is whether or not a team has addressed what it saw as its primary problem coming out of the previous season. And after three days of the draft, when Licht and I talked about what his big objective has been, I’m not sure any team has done better since March than the Bucs.

I wasn't so sure until Auman reported.
Casey Blaser, three-year starter at right tackle at Duke, is headed to Bucs rookie minicamp as tryout player.
O-line solved. We are definitely doing it.

Real question is how does a first year coach like McDermott wield such a big dick?

Shitbin the pro personnel dept when they've been the most consistent part of the org, not sure I agree with that. Good chance they all end up on the Pats anyway, lol

McDermott is smoother than any other coach they've hired in the last couple of decades, so I'm not shocked by any of this. Can't get much worse if he fucks it up.

I hope that they cast a wide net, and it's not just moving guys over from Carolina.

Was it McDermott who wanted Tyrod to come back? It sure seemed like Whaley did not like him

I didn't chime in because I couldn't remember the timeline, but how responsible was Whaley for the Bills mini renaissance on defense? Where the pieces in place before he got there?

"I think that's the best way," Watson said. "Learn from the veteran guys. Play whatever role I have."

Watson in his presser wants to sit first, start later. Good. He should not start immediately. This is a good sign that he has fucking patience to develop properly, unlike some people.

Rumor is Eagles were trying to trade up to get Cook before the Vikings took him. That's in line with the rumor that they were set at 43 with Jones unless Cook started slipping. Would've been basically Cook instead of Jones and Pumphrey. I'm not sure which one I prefer. CB is a much more important position than RB and if he can heal up then it would be amazing. But Cook in this offense would've been so fun to watch

Grossi has a notoriously bad rap but he's passionate about the team. Granted his passion is misplaced as shit but passionate nonetheless.

It feels so good to have competent GM. We got nine players after giving the Eagles the opportunity to select Carson Wentz.

Meanwhile it's time to start scouting the 2018 class. Cardinals need to start stockpiling multiple first round picks to prepare for the eventual Lamar Jackson reign.

I'm not sure who it was to be honest, but yeah, Whaley wanted to go in a different direction. Honestly, it was all Tyrod. He didn't have to renegotiate his contract, but he did, so I give more credit to Tyrod than anyone else.

He did good things to build that D, so he should get credit. Made the trade for Hughes, drafted a few guys that ultimately left in FA. Honestly, he wasn't all that bad, he just fucked up the EJ draft, played it perfectly by trading out of the top ten but still fucked it up (Buddy was still GM but Whaley was the guy). Trading up in a WR heavy draft was also a mistake, too many trade ups. He was in charge of the college scouting dept before GM so he's been with the team for 7 year or so. When I look back I feel a handful of decisions could have swung things in the opposite direction.

Whatever, we have a ways to go on D. I feel like the defense will get eaten alive, no way we can play split safety zone most of the game and rush 4. Rex was so scared to blitz last year because he didn't trust his DBs to keep coverage, so he sat back and got chewed up. Lets see what happens. DL rotation is really weak too.

I hate reports like these because that serve no purpose other than make the fo incompetent. You like him and want him? Go get him.

Then they will rebuild with a QB who potentially can take them all the way. The QB is the most important piece. We took that risk with Wentz because the FO didn't believe Bradford could take us there. KC is doing the same.

This is why I said I'd be happy if Dak became the next Alex Smith. He isn't good enough to win a team a Super Bowl. He's just good enough to keep KC from drafting a difference maker in round 1.

This is dumb bullshit and one of the main reasons I hate Reid and why he never won a SB with Philly. His teams never "load up" if they have a roster ready to contend. Always building for a future 3-5 years down the road.

Denver just showed you can win with a great D and a corpse of a QB. Seattle before them. KC has a good to great D. Maybe add to It? Maybe take Cook since you lost Charles and Cook might be McCoy 2.0

Or if you want to move up take Corey Davis! Load the offense up so much that Alex Smith has to stumble up.

Taking a complete project, giving up so much, all while you have a 10+ wins roster is ridiculous. And if this guy pans out and becomes a decent to really good starter, people will be sucking Reid's dick left and right but by that time the rest of the roster will be dead.

Just like with Philly the great defensive pieces he was gifted will be gone and then good luck with Reid at the helm trying to build a team. Reeks of taking Kolb high while neglecting the present day roster.

Glad Whaley is gone after that Sammy Watkins bullshit. The Bills could have had OBJ without trading up for a glass player.

Or Mike Evans in the trade up, but Watkins was regarded by most as the best WR in the class, and I don't recall him having injury concerns coming out of college. It's just Buffalo ruining good offensive talent as always.

What's to guarantee that OBJ succeeds there? All depends on who is developing the talent, luck (injuries), and who the QB is.

Pretty sure Watkins on Giants would be ripping the league a new one.

Denver in 2015 and the 2000 Ravens did it with LEGENDARY defenses. So did the Bucs when they won!

It's possible, but you really need to be a superior defense to actually win with the shitty QB.

Rumor is they did want him, I think Jones was #1 on their board but they did like Cook. They explored trading up but the tradeoff wasn't enough. They didn't want to give up the picks and wanted Jones + a 4th more than Cook. And they did the trade up for Pumphrey, they wanted him and apparently the Cowboys were going to take him the Eagles didn't trade up
