Rumor: Far Cry 5 set in Wild West 19th Century [Actually likely modern day Montana]

Will Ubisoft manage to keep any secrets for E3 (or even for their pre-E3 unveils)?

I don't understand the hate for primal, it was a great game with interesting setting and some new stuff.

So with a western setting, day fucking 1

Wait why not Call of Juarez? Is Ubisoft really ignoring a franchise to make a game in that setting for a different franchise?

Sure, why not. Even though it's starting to get a bit stale, Far Cry still has the best core gameplay mechanics from all open world games. I just hope there will be more improvements and new things this time outside of setting change. Most of all..it's about time to increase the mobility of the main character,so that any steep hill isn't impenetrable barrier and give him some parkour abilities. And don't you fricking dare to not give us the wing suit. Make some bizzare weird west invention, but don't fricking remove it.

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.

I've wondered this for awhile now. I understand that The Cartel was a turd that killed the mainline series, however Gunslinger was well received critically and, from memory, noted by Ubisoft as commercially successful too. I'm pretty sure they even said that Gunslinger's success was encouraging for future download-only titles.

Yet nothing has eventuated since.

Hmm. I bet Ubisoft were not inspired by Westworld or RDR2 were they :)

Either way, loved FC3/4, hated Primal. Wild West is good for me.

pretty bored with the Ubisoft formula but this would still be an easy preorder for me. Can't get enough of westerns, and in games they are underrepresented.

Hmmm...

Could be cool honestly. A first person wild west game sounds really intriguing.

But maybe RedDead 2 will have an fps mode.

Wow, they might be risking RDR2 cutting into their sales if that's the case. I mean, how many people have it in them to get 2 spaghetti western games in one holiday season?

I guess we'll see how it pans out and what the release dates are.

Who said RDR2 is releasing this year lol

I would love Far Cry to be a series with wildly varying settings. We already have the tropic FC's (I am aware of the differences between them), Blood Dragon, and Primal. The Wild West would be a nice addition.

Hey you never know, we might get a Splinter Cell reboot a la Hitman (2016). Haven't been leaked yet, then again it might not even exist.

So ubisoft trying to compete with red dead redemption 2 this holiday season.............????

After the mess that was Primal, I don't have any faith in that team pulling off a Far Cry game with a historical setting.

RDR2 is more than enough for me.

The main problem with Primal was the lack of variety in pretty much every single way and the piss poor story, it still looked really good and felt fun to play.

A tad off topic but Christ, we need to think of a better way to refer to Red Dead Redemption 2. RDR2 doesn't work.

Primal felt like somebody was making a BloodDragon-type of standalone expansion and then halway through Ubi decided to turn it into whole new game, so they added padding.
The core gameplay was still nice, but they removed too much from previous FCs without adding enough to compensate. And 99% of the game felt like side missions from previous games. It felt like the game almost had none of the story-centric cinematic missions that were so common in FC3 and FC4

Still enjoyed it though and finished every side mission

I'm in for more Far Cry especially in the west.
But I'm hoping for some drastic game play re-design.

After platinuming Far Cry 4 and Primal, Ubi has stretched those mechanics and tropes to the absolute limit. The revamp philosohpy applied to AC hopefully filters to this new game too.

I'm still not convinced Red Dead 2 is a 2017 game.
If it is, Ubi have a damn crazy fight on their hands for mindshare.

Uh, when exactly do you think this went into production (if true)? After the RDR2 trailer?

It was fairly obvious RDR was on its way though. Unlike when people attribute CoD going back to its roots just because Battlefield was successful with WWI.

So looking back to Vivendisoft's 2015 Far Cry survey :
1) A Far Cry game in remote Alaska about surviving extreme wilderness
2) A Far Cry game in a futuristic, sci-fi setting on another planet
3) A Far Cry game set in the Vietnam war during the 1960s
4) A Far Cry game set in the cocaine trafficking jungles of Peru
5) A Far Cry game where you can fight against or join vampires
6) A Far Cry game in the Spaghetti Western style set in the late 19th century Americas
7) A Far Cry game that is set during a zombie outbreak
8 ) Blood Dragon 2: A sequel to Blood Dragon with more Rex Power Colt
9) A Far Cry game set in a Mad Max style post-apocalyptic world
10) A Far Cry game in the present day on a Jurassic Park style island of dinosaurs
11) A Far Cry game based on the world of Shangri-La from Far Cry 4
it seems to be 6th option ;-)

Also seems like we already got some others in a way :
- 11 is most likely where FC: Primal was born as an idea
- 8 was in form of weird Trials game
- 4 is basically GR-Wildlands but with Bolivia instead of Peru

Far Cry western? Sure. Same period as RDR? Uh, maybe later. Though yeah, like most, I don't believe RDR2 will be out this year. Either that or this game is the one that moves to 2018

I'd still love a full Blood Dragon style game as well.

I would love this but they better hope Read Dead gets delayed or can't see doing well expecially if Far Cry 5 then expectation would be higher, as Ubi seemed very happy wiith Primal number.

I kind of wish Farcry goes full board with nonsensical settings like western with dinosaurs or self aware stuff like Blood Dragon. I think around FC4 Ubi conducted a poll asking what people would like to see and one of the options was dinosaurs. They had a chance to do something stupid like this with Primal but they didn't and I doubt the series will ever go full on self aware stupidity like Blood Dragon ever again.

I'm not holding my breath. Though I've lamented the lack of Wild West games, Far Cry is the quintessential series of appealing settings and uninteresting game design. So like Far Cry 4 and Primal a part of me wants to play it, but another part of me is pretty sure I'll get bored within the first couple of hours.

Fingers crossed there's some key differences in the design and it's not yet another copy of what we're familiar with.
See the design or formula is not the issue, if it was Horizon wouldn't be the breakaway hit that it is. It's the execution that makes all the difference and to me FC4 atleast was very fun to play because it had very good shooting which I found fun. Plus the radio was fucking hilarious for me because I understand the language and all the Indian references it made.
