ARMS data-mined: 20 fighter codenames found! Also, Nintendo says an update is soon.

Prof Levi, how does arm girth affect gameplay?

I'm glad you asked!

ARM Girth, a stat that applies to the character rather than their chosen ARMS, affects the size and speed of the actual gloves. It also effects the size of the "disable" hurtbox. For example: if Kid Cobra (max Girth) and Ribbon Girl (current minimum Girth) were to both use twin Megatons, Cobra's would be noticeably larger than Ribbon's, and slightly slower. However, Cobra's wider arm hurtbox would make it easier for Ribbon to disarm him.

Typically, heavier characters (Mummy, Brass) have higher Girth, but not always. Cobra is a light-middleweight, and yet is tied with Master Mummy as the current maximum Girth. Interestingly, Min Min's Dragon Charge temporarily gives her left arm maximum Girth. Perhaps we'll see another character manipulate Girth in the future?

Sweet here seems to have even smaller Girth than Ribbon Girl; meaning her punches would be smaller and mildly faster than everyone else on the current roster.

I extracted a still from the gif. Definitely a girl.

Kind of a useless observation at this point, but it just occurred to me with the candy theme and the whole inflating pants/body thing means she's most likely bubble-gum based, rather than strictly taffy. Inflate and pop!

So, uh, inflatable bubblegum girl.

Well, there's some fanart for ya'.

I agree: now that I think about it, Bubblegum makes much more sense than taffy. And you're also probably correct in that Sweet will likely be a *ahem* popular character.

My apologies for yet another double post, but I've been analyzing Sweet again all day. Here are some more observations courtesy of my own research and that of the ARMS Subreddit:

This is a cleaned up screenshot from the teaser created by the Reddit user sassafrassloth. From what we can see here, Sweet seems to wear a stylish hat that is a hybrid of a chef's hat and a jester's cap. Additionally, she seems to wear a midriff-baring vest and POSSIBLY a wide cloth belt.

At first glance, it seems that she wears baggy clown pants, and further inspection reveals that they appear to be made of the same material as her ARMS. As we speculated before, this material is likely bubblegum. Even closer inspection reveals some colored pixels in the grayscale visual noise. While this may not mean anything, I cannot help but notice patches of pink pixels on both Sweet's ARMS and pants...

In addition, it seems that she has a different set of ARMS equipped in this screen; I cannot see any indication that these are the Nunchuks, anyway. They appear to be Glove-type ARMS, but of what element...?

These screens are also taken from the Subreddit, and were made by user MathematicalTurtle. Here, we see Sweet's apparent ability in action.

These screens confirm two things:

1) Sweet wears clown shoes. This almost confirms that she is indeed a clown.

2) Sweet's entire body (sans head, feet, and hands) inflates, not just her clown pants. We can also see that she does seem to wear a large belt, possibly with a buckle bearing her logo. We can also see that she once again has the Nunchuks equipped. Judging by what little we can see, it looks like Sweet's ability does not affect her ARM Girth.

Also, I'm afraid I don't have a gif or screen, but I saw some evidence that the Nunchuks may be able to deal damage without being thrown. Roughly 13 seconds into this video (please ignore the narration, I hadn't watched the video with sound until now, and it has no bearing), we see the Nunchuks destroy an RNA Man with no obvious throwing animation or retracting animation. However, the Nunchuk that destroyed the enemy stops spinning immediately afterwards, while the other Nunchuk continues spinning, and is subsequently thrown out normally. If my hypothesis is correct, the Nunchuk, when charged, creates a short ranged attack in front of the fighter. This means that one does not necessarily have to throw out a punch if fighting in close proximity.

I still anticipate a full trailer either tomorrow or Friday, with Sweet's release soon afterward.

Edit: I have found a web application that "reverses" the effects of black and white filters by seeking colored pixels.

Though it seems that there were few context clues to work with, It seems that the AI was inclined to agree with me regarding the pink pixels on Sweet's pants. In fact, I can very easily see this being similar to her actual color scheme with the exception of her ARMS and hat. I still believe that her ARMS will also be pink bubblegum, and her hat is likely to be multicolored, as per the stereotypical jester hat.

Totally random but now I'm thinking that Master Hand and Crazy Hand should make their way into Arms.

......if they haven't already (havent played in awhile).

I guess the baggy pants makes sense when you consider they have to still fit while her body is inflated. This is going to be a very bizarre-looking character, isn't it? She's definitely the strangest "human" character in the game if her entire body is elastic and not just her extendable arms. Could she inflate herself prior to gaining the ARMS power? Why did it have to be a clown??

Hoping for a bigger Twitter reveal later today.

Watch Da Birdie

I buy cakes for myself on my birthday it's not weird lots of people do it I bet
I've had ARMS for a month now but really haven't got around to playing it much, I'm gonna try and promise myself to try it out more when Sweet hits.

Part of me wonders if Sweet inflating herself might be something that would be in terms of a counter? After all, we do we a target on her belly after the inflation, almost as if she is welcoming an attack against her. Would be interesting to have a character that could function like that (and not just either take the hits or to knock the arms away).

I suppose if we are going to be a big showing from Nintendo at Gamescom, we could get to see Sweet's trailer too so that we can know how ARMS is expanding out next in terms of a new character and what the other two ARMS will be besides the nunchucks.

Looking at the footage we have, it looks like, at the very least, the inflated pants will give her some extra height than the regular jump from the rest of the characters in the game.

Maybe that will be her signature gimmick?
to me, it looks: charge arms >> press down >> jump.

Just like clockwork, another tease!

Rather than a tease for Sweet, this time Biff is teasing a new ARM! We see two RNA Men, one with Toasters(?) and the other with two new ARMS that resemble more advanced Guardians. Toaster punches, Neo-Guardian launches his shield, then the screen fades out. When it returns, Toaster is blown across the room and Neo-Guardian lowers his shield.

I believe these ARMS cannot punch traditionally, but instead return ARMS to their sender. Interesting. I wonder why RNA Man was chosen to demonstrate...?

Given his appearance in both Sweet's teaser and now the Neo-Guardian teaser, I can't help but wonder if RNA Man may end up promoted to a playable fighter...?

My guess is more that the Neo-Guardian is going to be one of Sweet's "signature ARMS" and they wanted to show it, but without showing more of the actual character, so RNA Man becomes the combination stand-in/punching bag. Either way it's cool that we're getting more defensive-focused ARMS, it's always felt a little strange how one-of-a-kind the Guardian is.

As for names...most of the names they use for the characters are pretty straightforward so I wouldn't get my hopes up too high. Gummi, maybe? Or Pierra, as a feminine play off of Pierrot?

This makes sense, but I honestly wouldn't be surprised if RNA ends up as an alt costume for Helix eventually. That being said, he was also used to tease Hedlok Shuffle. So...

I concur; it's nice to see more defense-oriented ARMS. The Neo-Guardian looks as though it will compliment my style nicely.

The straightforward naming scheme is precisely why I expect something like Sweet Heart or Lolly Pop.

I'm beginning to theorize that Sweet will be a primarily defensive character. If the Nunchucks can, as I hypothesized before, deal damage in close quarters without being thrown, and the Neo-Guardian is also one of her ARMS, perhaps her ability is made for defense as well?

As mas8705 pointed out earlier, Sweet seems to bear a target on her person when inflated. Perhaps this ability can deflect ARMS?

We still need to see a few more details:

Her third ARM
How her abilities work
Her color schemes
Her name and her stage's name

Once these are revealed, I have no doubt her launch will follow immediately afterwards. If we assume that one detail is revealed every two days, we can map out this schedule:

August 19: Teaser for the third ARM
August 21: Sweet's trailer & ability explanation
August 23: Color scheme teaser
August 25: Full stage reveal
August 27: Launch

Interestingly, a major ARMS Tourney is scheduled to end on the 26th. Perhaps that lends credence to this speculative launch date?

The only problem I see with that time table is that some of the dates fall on saturday and sunday. I've taken a quick look at the ARMS twitter and as far as I can see, there are no important update posts made on weekends (japan time).

Of course, I could be forgetting a tweet or two from a couple of months back wich breaks this theory, but right now I'm not expecting any major updates until Sunday night (monday for Japan).

EDIT:
Wait, I stand corrected. Looking further back, the "updates for version 2.0.0 had teasers on the weekends for headlock mode as well as Max Brass.
My apologies for the confussion. Guess I was thinking of the smash dojo.

Understandable! Nintendo's various development teams have different ways of doling out information. It appears that weekends have no effect on the ARMS Association. I believe that you are also correct in that Mr. Sakurai didn't post on weekends.

It would make sense that she is defensive. All the other girls are more mobile oriented, with Twintelle being the most defensive so far but she is still more mobile than Brass and Mummy.

All indications point to Sweet being the female tank.

It'd also be unique in that Helix is the most defense-oriented character at the moment. Even then, he focuses on evasion rather than blocking. A case COULD be made for Master Mummy as defensive, but I would argue that he's much more of a heavy brawler.

If my theory is correct, Sweet would be the first truly defensive character in ARMS. It would also be unique in that she would break the mold of tank-type characters being huge, bulky, and slow.
