People called Romanes they go the house?
Man, that sucks if true. It looked really interesting at last year's PAX, but I hadn't kept up too much with it.

Enlighten me, since when it great concept or a vertical slice of a alpha/beta build ensure its "great"ness?

I am not saying that Prey 2 is bad but it is an unknown. Of course, as a concept it has been shown as more than the formulaic mundane stuff currently available in abundance. It kind of reminded me Deus Ex HR.

Prey 2 was supposed to be true open world, as far as I know. DXHR, while a fine game for the most part, had fairly truncated environments.

I think the project was too ambitious for current gen and they failed to deliver the vision.

For all Prey 2 looked well executed and promising, I felt it was doomed. It seemed to labor with the typical "shoehorn a semi-sequel into the events of the first game because we have no ideas" scenario. Kind of like why I'm unenthused about Prototype 2.

And of all the games to pick for that treatment... Prey? Essentially a cult classic but nothing most people would remember or care about. (I'm not dissing Prey.)

Wasn't it more a case of shoehorning an existing name onto a sequel that would otherwise be unrecognizable as "Prey"? It didn't exhibit a lack of ideas so much as a lack of confidence in a new brand. Isn't Prototype 2 a lot like Prototype 1? The common reaction to Prey 2 was "what does this have to do with Prey?"

If it was cancelled, it's probably because the stuff shown to the press was the only part of the game that actually existed. I was as surprised as anyone by how cool it looked.

What the hell? Game was looking amazing from what they showed of it. I had no interest in the Prey name, but everything they said about it and showed of it looked awesome.

Is the developer owned by Zenimax? Is there any chance the game could be picked up by another publisher and just changed to remove the Prey references?

So it is supposed to be very similar to Fallout/Elder Scrolls games in that regard. Well if they can pull it then great otherwise albeit being a tad more restrictive it could take the route of ME or DE:HR if it would help them lend some overlying structure. It would certainly curb the ambition but perhaps would make it a more appealing proposition for the next publisher if indeed the project has been scrapped.

Human Head is independant, but Prey is owned by Bethesda.

Human Head is independent, IIRC.

Yeah but then it would rob it of its original potential. There's a big difference in everything from gameplay to story between going full open world and having sections that are cordoned off from each other.

True. I prefer a thought-out mini-sandbox to experiment in more than an open world, but I really really want Prey 2 to be a real thing. I think the open world sci-fi could work.

Bethesda would have slapped this rumor away before it risked spreading to news sites and such, so I imagine it's true. They were fairly quick to dismiss those Doom 4 rumors.

The shit's going on at Zenimax? Why would they cancel this? They have the money, and this game looked balls out awesome.

Maybe Prey 2 was canceled only in name, and instead they are getting rid of all ties to Prey and making a new IP out of it for Next Gen systems?

Maybe?

Human Head hasn't updated their website since E3 last year...

Too true. I think I was pandering to publishers and their potential requisites instead of what gamers want. Games are more than child playthings today; it is an art form. As such, we should asking for boundaries to be pushed. I am seeing the E3 gameplay demo right now and so far so good.

That said, going back to my earlier point, we don't know what is the price for this ambition or the waiting period it may carry and finally whether without an overlying structure it would be as good as the devs are promising it would be.

Let's just hope it's a hoax preceding the week of April's fool's day.
