Kojima has been genius for decades.
Lost his genius in 2001, became a puppet to his fanbase afterwards. Which is not to say he doesn't have some glimpses of brilliance now and then.

Mantis in MGS1, Raiden switcharoo in MGS2, The End and all the easter eggs associated with him in MGS3, The Sorrow, Act 4 in MGS4, Screaming Mantis and the mindfuckery pulled during that fight.

I turned off my console when I was told to do so. Playing for 10 hours straight, it was 6am and I was too shaken by the shit taking place.
Cartwheeling Raiden is the best thing in the game. That and getting pissed at.

How hilarious is it that a game forced you to play as a naked guy, who you hate in the first place? I mean, that shit is genius. MGS 2 served its purpose because it's almost universally hated.
That's how much a genius Kojima used to be. Then all you fuckers ruined him with your whining and bitching and complaining.

The balls it took to pull off MGS 2 were gargantuan. The more you think about it, the more insane it is.
Kojima was in a PERFECT position to execute the tried and true "bigger = better" formula of the mega-hit sequel.
What does he do instead? He goes into psycho mode, delivers a game that acknowledges and breaks the fourth wall like never before; it played on the concept of projecting yourself into the character you play, and maintained the camp, humor and cheese while still being surprisingly smart and conscious about censorship, the online revolution and identity.
And what does he get in return? "LoL Kojima this Raiden guy is gay!"
MGS2 isnt universally hated. A lot of people here even consider it the best MGS. I dont agree but theyre entitled to their opinion even though theyre wrong

He did not know - he was not sure they'd like him, but did not expect such a negative response.
The first time he began to think about a younger lead / co-lead character was when Japanese women (testers) complained that Snake was too old / grouchy and does not carry the "handsome" look women tend to prefer.
Of course, once he made Raiden, his looks were not what mattered, but it was the role he made Raiden play.
Man I could fucking talk about this game forever.

I definitely had the most fun in MGS2 than the first or third one. I beat that game on every difficulty getting all the dog tags except on Extreme. I was hooked on that game like nothing else, never replayed any other game to that magnitude in my life.
Criminally, I only played MGS3 once, and never the superior Subsistence (even though I owned the Limited Edition on PS2 all these years, and now the HD Collection on PS3)

You know, I kinda liked Raiden and the fact that Snake was already developed very well on MGS made sense that we had another character and see his struggles and grow...
Seeing what he did with Snake on MGS4 I wish he never ever touched the character again.

It was also cool to see Solid Snake from a different perspective.
I wish Old Snake retained some of MGS2 Snakes spirit but I was ultimately ok with how Old Snake turned out.
It was a little weird with how he went from "We need to remember to spread the word. And thats what keeps me alive!" in MGS2 to "Im just an old killer hired to do some wetwork" in MGS4. I can understand his bitterness but it was too much, too fast, with no real transition.
Overall, Naked Snake/Big Boss beats Solid Snake. I was dissapointed when MGS3 was shown to be Big Boss in the 60s because it meant another game in the series with no Solid Snake but, one playthrough later, my mind was changed and I just wanted more.
As far as I know, all they said was "something special for MGS fans" which could be anything.
New MGS Risk game. Book it.

That was shown when? early September, late August? Doesnt seem that long ago.
Still, there was that mo-cap actor claiming "Summer 2013 at the earliest" which means the game could be ~6 months away.
