The only connected ones are Gen 1 (Fire Red, Leaf Green) with Gen 2 (Heart Gold, Soul Silver), and Black and White with B&W2.

No, you will not miss out on much of anything, the game is designed as if you were new to the series, it even features a new main character. These are Pokemon stories we're talking about here.

I'm definitely excited for this. Yeah the environment looks very...pixelated but hey at least it's a big step forward. I'm surprised they went with this look considering the over 500 pokemon models that were made for Pokedex3D are now going to go to waste....unless you really want to buy the $15 pokedex.

I'm concerned the amount of text in this game will be compromised in order to localize all versions by October. I know pokemon games aren't known for their engaging story lines, but they were getting better with B&W. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

Joker 2 in action looks good for a game with a full overworld and polygonal monster fights and it was on the old-ass DS. This game SHOULD look a lot better than it does but I still think it looks good and am totally excited about it. It just seems like more incremental Gamefreak enhancements.

If the DNA thing in the logo is supposed to have any bearing on in game mechanics, I'd suspect something involving breeding rather than fusions (which would be stupid), honestly.

It likely has to do with the storyline. Genetics were explored in Red/Blue and the logos are Red and Blue.

Looks like such a half-step from DS 3D. Are Gamefreak purposely keeping shit looking generations behind so they have more room to improve and impress people buying Pokemon games since the very beginning?

The games never have beautiful overworld graphics. The battle animations however are something you can't do in DS.

Also people seem to forget that there are more than 600+ mons (plus the new ones) model data to be stored.

The storyline wil probably be about a Team Rocket-like villain group trying to manipulate Pokemon genes to make some sort of perfect pokemon and they need the remaining cromossome from the X or Y cromossome-bearing legendary. Sorry for the spoilers lol

It's gonna be about a group of people originating from an educational institution with a poison-type Pokemon as their mascot seeking and capturing the Pokemon with the highest base stat average in the region, genetically altering it so it has the best IVs and EVs, and then subsequently watching it fail to defeat the player's Pokemon and then wondering why it lost despite its clear logical advantages in probably the most un-Japanese tale of defying statistics and destiny ever.

Each Pokemon gene revelation has been relatively independent with the exception of whit and black 2 and gold and silver. And plot hasn't been that important to pokemon.

I typed Dragon Quest Joker on google and picked up the first screenshot that was not 420x200.

Nah the villain team would be those people who prefer "original" Pokemon and wanting to obliterate the new ones via a newly discovered Pokemon while ignoring their hypocrisy

This screenshot in particular look bad. Aside from the super simple geometry, the layout looks like they didn't think in 3D and just slapping a 3D artstyle over a map designed for an overhead view.

This one is good, though.
