so pikmin 3, and wonderful 101, fire emblem are definite buys.

never played bayonetta, but maybe i'll give the second a try. didn't get xenoblade since it's discontinued, so i'm not sure if i should try out their new game.

of course i'll blindly buy a mario game.

I agree that technically the early line-up isn't too bad when compared to traditional launch line-ups, but it's nonetheless lacking games that stand out as "next gen", games that are a big step-up. That's not how you sell a $300/$350 console. 360 despite the lack of games had some games (e.g. Oblivion in March 2006) that said "Look, this is what this console can do, this is what you can expect, this is the next gen of gaming". Wii U has nothing like that. There's nothing that wows me. Nothing that truly shows a promising future, nothing that justifies the price and it seems customers agree.

Also by launching early they enforce comparisons to current gen, which still seems to get quite a few big hitters which all don't come to Wii U. And let's not even begin to debate that times have changed and that maybe shitty launch line-ups are not acceptable anymore.

Haha, yep that's pretty much exactly what I was trying to say. :p

It's not that it has significantly fewer, or worse games, than any platform near-launch, but it's for the most part failing to differentiate itself, which is the crutch of a new console.

Best described as Arkham City light really, but when you have a razor thin line-up, almost every release counts.

Ugh, I'm enjoying Arkham City but the combat is not really a high point for me. Why can't they make a decent combo oriented spider-man games?

LOL.

Once Retro announces Dinosaur Planet 2, you'll not say this anymore!

I always thought they should remake Dinosaur Planet but with Krystal as the main character, they have everything they need. Maybe try to fetch the original writers and such to find out about canned ideas in the original version, like how Scales was supposed to be the real final boss but got ditched due to the incoming buyout.

Wow, even with the bs filer like X and Zelda that aren't going to come out in 2013 (don't be silly), that list looks so sad.

X has already been in development for the best part of three years. It's a virtual certainty to be released in Japan this year. Wind Waker HD has also been confirmed for this year, and if you're talking about the next main Zelda, the release is mentioned in the OP as "far, far, away", so he's hardly claiming it'll be released this year.

Wonderfully done OP, but I see no reason to pick up a Wii U before a price drop or two.
Seconded, although I really want to play Zelda again in HD, Pikmin 3, and have my first Monster Hunter experience, I think I'll wait it out...

Nintendo hopefully will slash the price before PS4 launches and then I'll pick it up while everyone else is hyped about PS4. Then I'll pick up PS4 when my back-log of games die down sometime in 2014.

On the Mario vs. Cod stuff, I agree that Mario is vastly different with just about every iteration. Someone once told me why we would likely never get a Mario title with more mature themes and storyline. Mario basically is a platform for new gameplay mechanics, and Nintendo often tries out very different mechanics with each new iteration. Cod, in retrospect, is probably more appropriately comparable to Madden, although they do tend to have some decent story-lines and single player modes, which goes above Madden's yearly updates. Still comparable nonetheless in that the core mechanics don't change all that much.

Didn't Nintendo say summer for Pikmin 3 and Wonderful 101? That could be anywhere from May through late September. I doubt if we get both before August. My guess is Pikmin 3 releases late June at the earliest.

Sadest list ever and it comes from someone with a Wii U , at least my child is not bored to play with me at Nintendo Land ...

well, it's an ok list of games but nothing overly special, E3 better bring some more software and more dates. People like me that own everything under the sun are fine with a software drought but if Nintendo wants more sales they need more games.

When they said they learned from the 3DS launch, I think they meant they had a better day 1 and month 1 line up planned. This actually came to be, much more software support out of the gate but obviously it became rapidly apparent that none of the games in the works for Wii U by Nintendo themselves were going as scheduled.

Going by the Wii, I think nintendo prefers to have 1 casual and 1 core title per calender quarter. I believe they had assumed nintendo land was their casual game for the launch window (which comprised Q4 2012 and Q1 2013) and obviously Mario brothers wii U was intended as the core game for that same time frame. Internally they knew getting anything out before the end of march was likely to be an issue but they had nonetheless assumed 3rd parties were on board with some software and now between delays an cancellations there's just about nothing coming out for the wii U until Q2. Pikmin was intended for this quarter and it might still be but the last nintendo direct made it sound like they aren't opposed to delaying the game if it's not ready yet. The for sure releases include another wario ware game and wii fit U so it's my assumption wario ware is intended to be the core game should pikmin fail to release. Q3 brings another mini game collection for the casuals and wonderful 101 for the core.

4th quarter of this year is where things get interesting I think... the 4 big nintendo franchises we know are in development- mario, zelda, mario kart and smash brothers , well at least 2 of those games will HAVE to make it out in that quarter if nintendo hopes to sell anything to anyone. We already know that wind waker HD is intended as a 2013 release so Nintendo may honestly have that ready to go by christmas , but it's only a port. I actually expect we may see either the new 3d mario game or the new mario kart available for sale by years end. Not both of them, just one of them.

Smash brothers is going to be a 2014 game , my guess would be quarter 2- the spring glut of this year replaced with smash brothers. For quarter 1 2014, I think we'll actually see bayonetta 2. Quarter 3 2014 is where Yoshi will end up and it's possible whichever of mario kart/new mario did not launch this year will make it out in the same quarter.

The actual new zelda game ? I don't expect it until 2015. Last months nintendo direct made it look very much as though the game hasn't even started development and that will be a 3 year road at minimum.

Finally- the wild card games , nintendo does have retro studios still , they haven't made a game since donkey country returns which came out a couple years ago. Rumors also point to a studio expansion , they could be working on 2-3 games at once now perhaps ? Retros new title could easily take the place of a new mario / mario kart this year which would pad out next years schedule a bit.

Seriously, those games in the op are what you'd typically get in a normal launch window, but instead spread out over an entire year.

Not even that, this is literally everything that's ever been even mentioned once or twice in passing for the system. This list has games going well into 2014. Obviously E3 and Nintendo Direct will give us some more games and there's always downloadables, but even then it's shockingly barren. It's unlikely we'll see more than 30-40 games total at retail total through the rest of 2013 and that's being optimistic with Nintendo being able to release each and every game they have announced for 2013 on time.

Isn't Amazing Spider-Man coming out aswell?
This and F1 Race Stars on March 1st.

On the Nintendo side it's a pretty exciting list (from my perspective anyway) but on the third party side... eh. I'm expecting Darksiders II this week because I got it on the cheap (€ 20) and other than that... I want Tekken TT 2, if it's any good Aliens and I'll eventually double dip on Revelations HD.

Well, time to buckle up Iwata and co.

Uhh, which port is Nintendo selling? Nintendo didn't release Batman and Mass Effect, their publishers did. Nintendo also didn't set the price. Blaming Nintendo for crappy 3rd party support is like blaming Sony for a shitty Skyrim port.

Good point. Maybe "selling" is a poor word choice. I'm trying to say that Nintendo has all of these ports on their consoles, but they can't rely on those ports alone, especially not when we've seen that they are of a poorer quality than their originals.

i just went down that list and 50% are personal must-haves and another 25% are games on my want list. such a fantastic line-up. hopefully this wii u "bombing" will lead to some great deals over the holidays because i don't know how else i'm going to afford it.

F1 Race Stars is still unannounced, WTF is up with Codies?

You know, if they'd get the pricing to be more competitive on some of these late third party ports, they'd almost certainly sell better. ME3, Batman AC, NFS:MW and Sniper Elite V2 should all be launching at 20 bucks, maybe 30 for NFS.

I know I'd certainly pay more attention if they were priced competitively.

Speaking of which, how is Sniper Elite?

For me, the Wii U was a Platinum Games machine before I even bought it. Bayonetta 2 and Wonderful 101 could have been the only games announced for it and I would have been happy with the system. The mainline Nintendo stuff (Zelda, Mario, Pikmin, etc) will be good too, just how it has always been. I've got SO much shit to play still, old and new, including stuff from the original Wii. I'll never understand the insatiable desire to wanting more games when there's plenty out there already. That's only if you broaden your tastes a bit and dig a little deeper into a library, that is. I guess if you only own a Wii U then there's not much to choose from, but why the fuck would anyone do that to themselves? Plus, the system just came out! Both the Vita and Wii U are barren wastelands right now, but they'll get stuff, eventually.

As for myself, the only other thing I'd like to see from the Wii U is to get more quirky Japanese games like the Wii got. That's what's most important to me. I need to see stuff like Zak & Wiki, Little King's Story, Elebits/Dewey's Adventure, Sky Crawlers, Fragile Dreams, etc. before I feel like the system starts making sense to me. So far, I haven't seen anything of the sort and it doesn't help that developers like Cing (who provided these sorts of games) are gone now. We'll see, I guess. But as I said, between Nintendo's internally developed games, Platinum, and the Monolith Soft support, I think it's good to go.

People are saying this a thin list for the rest of the year? Really?

-MH3UHD
-Lego City Undercover
-Game & Wario
-Pikmin 3
-The Wonderful 101
-Wind Waker HD
-Rayman Legends

And that's not even the possibility of one of the Mario games or Bayonetta 2 releasing during the holiday season as well. Unless some of you somehow happen to have both a big gaming budget and plenty of free time this looks like more than enough to me. The only problem I really see at the moment is the current drought between April and June/July.

To be honest, I've resigned myself to the fact that I'll only be buying Nintendo games on Wii U.

If you want the best of what third-parties have, you'll really need to get the next PS/Xbox.

The list is so short! I mean as far as exclusives go I think its pretty awesome. But really, not enough games, nowhere close.

I wonder if this third party event/direct Nintendo is preparing will unveil new third party games we don't know about because this list looks pretty barren right now :/

I'm intrigued as to find out what Retro are working on.

It would be fantastic if they were working on a Zelda style action-adventure game, but I doubt it.

This is the first year, the first time I've ever bought Nintendo hardware and I've been genuinely worried about its future.
There are few games I'm looking forward to myself, A:CM (despite what I've been reading), Monster Hunter, 101, WW HD and later Bayo...Now I know there's a lot of typical Nintendoomed opinions floating around and generally I don't subscribe to that line of thinking, primarily because I know time and time again that Nintendo ips always sell and always keep there platforms above water...but this time I've got this nagging feeling that this may not be quite enough this gen. They've been courting Japanese developers, cool, I'd like to hear more about what they're cooking. Maybe their next ND may change my opinion a little? But it's really these western developers I'm concerned about as more and more are closing shop, and the larger ones seem to be coming more prominent with the aquisition of talent from these closed studios. And as these big developers/publishers become fewer, Nintendos choices or rather chances of roping in support becomes narrower. At least this is how I envision it unfolding, I mean I don't know the industry like so many here so my opinion may not hold a lot of water. It really does seem like Wiiu or the Nintendo brand is on track to becoming a niche console for Japanese games whose ultimate success in the west hinges on whether these titles can strike a chord with western audiences. It's entirely possible that some of these future developers could adopt some western philosophies in order to attract a broader audience but who knows if that's even a sensible option. Why not do what they do best I suppose? As a Nintendo fan and multi console owner myself I'd really like to be wrong...sorry for the rant :p

Good list. It would be nice/interesting to see all the different eShop games coming. There seems to be a decent amount of indie games on the way.

I didn't know The Walking Dead was coming out for Wii U. Been waiting to play it!

Edit: Oh, wait. It's a different game. Not sure now.

Everything Nintendo publishes will be mine at some point. Monster Hunter is a must and so is that Lego game. That's about it. Maybe Aliens too since I haven't bought it for the 360 yet.

It's okay and I'm sure the list will grow later this year.

Wait a sec, screens are the only thing confirmed for Smash at E3 (unlike the Marios which are both playable)? Well that's a helluva disappointment.

Better get a good gameplay trailer, at the vey least.

And X and New Zelda. Coming 2013!

It was a joke about Mario Kart being the title Retro are working on.

Props to you OP, pretty well done. Like I've said in another thread I'm mainly looking forward to TW101 & Pikmin 3. These two games will hopefully be great. I'm grabbing Monster Hunter too. Meanwhile I'm spending most of my time with the Wii U on Nintendo Land and replaying all the wii classics since I've never bought that console. Oh, and I've finally ordered NSMB:U after recently finishing the original NSMB for the first time :D

I think this should count for this thread.

According to Konami's David Cox the only reason they aren't making a Wii U version of Castlevania Lords of Shadow 2 is because they don't have enough people, apparently the first one only had 60 people on the team and the second one has a little bit more, they said if there was more people they would of made a Wii U version alongside the PC/PS3/360 versions.

It's a better reason than the Gamepad "reason"

http://www.n1ntendo.nl/article/4013...evania-lords-of-shadow-2-niet-naar-wii-u-komt

"The reason that we're not making a Wii U-version of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 is because of our resources. We have a limited amount of people working on the title. About 60 people worked on the first title and that's a pretty small team. With the sequel we have slightly expanded that team, but in order to make a Wii U-version, we need about 20 to 30 extra people. Next to that, we're already pretty far into the development of Lords of Shadow 2, so it would be very hard for us to work on a Wii U-version without negatively effecting the general development of the title. That's the only reason there won't be a Wii U-version, it's not that we don't want to make it, it's just that it wouldn't make sense for us to do so right now." - David Cox, producer

please inform me as to why you think that X couldn't possibly be released this year

I simply see it as counting eggs as chickens, sorry. Nintendo has just delayed a bunch of titles, I see no reason why a TBA title should be considered part of a 2013 release schedule.

why not count that one in particular, though? they've shown more of it than they have just most of their titles. putting it up there on level with the new Zelda title just seems ridiculous to me. we aren't even past screenshot-level on the old remake Zelda, yet we've got actual gameplay footage that looks near completion of X. Yoshi only has screenshots as well. 3D Mario and Mario Kart exist only in word-form.
